Fox’s first Avatar movie released in 2009 and went on to gross nearly $2.8 billion in ticket sales – the highest unadjusted gross of any movie ever. The company is developing four sequels to the film, with the first one set to debut in 2019.

The Avatar sequels are big opportunities for Fox’s film and consumer products divisions, and the company has also teamed with Disney to open a Disney Land attraction based on the property.

X-Men is Fox’s longest-running film series and has grossed nearly $5 billion in ticket sales across 10 films. The company has also successfully bridged the franchise to television with Legion on its FX network.

In addition to a follow-up to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, Fox is working on upcoming franchise entries including The New Mutants, Gambit, and a Deadpool sequel. It’s also got at least two other untitled X-Men projects in the works.

Fox scored a surprise hit with its R-rated, 2015 film Kingsman: The Secret Service. The picture reviewed well and went on to gross over $410 million globally, setting the stage for a follow-up that’s in good shape to post better sales than its predecessor.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens on September 29, and reports suggest that some of the franchise’s principal players have already signed on for a third installment.

Planet of the Apes

Fox’s most recent take on the Planet of the Apes property has been a big hit with critics and audiences.

The first entry in the series managed $481 million in ticket sales, while sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes went on to gross over $710 million.

War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 17, and some of the film’s chief creative talent are already working on where the series goes from there.

After successfully reintroducing the Alien franchise with Prometheus in 2012, Fox set about developing additional entries in the series. Director Ridley Scott reportedly has plans for at least two, and as many as six, sequels following Alien: Covenant – which hits theaters on May 19.

Fox is also set to relaunch the Predator series with a new film in 2018. Some promotional materials for Alien: Covenant suggest that the upcoming pictures share a universe, so it’s possible that new Alien vs Predator films are in the works as well.
