Next weekend we will be hearing about the 2014 Bishop’s Appeal. The theme for this year is “Sharing the Light of Christ”. I would like to thank you for your support of the 2013 Bishop’s Appeal. We were able to raise $81,415, thus exceeding our goal of $69,483. The amount in which we exceeded our goal was $11,932, half of this went back to support the programs and ministries of the Diocese, and half came back to support our parish. The campaign raised more than $5,400,000 to benefit the programs and ministries of the Diocese of Green Bay. Your support of these ministries helps families and individuals become “Alive in Faith”. This weekend we conclude Catholic Schools Week. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who support our Catholic Schools, students, parents, families, teachers, staff, parishes, and other benefactors. Together let us form communities of faith, knowledge, and service. Stewardship is a way of life marked by faith-filled prayer, service to our neighbor and generous sharing. Almsgiving results from feelings of pity and compassion for someone in need. It is a good step in the right direction and it is one of the seven corporal works of mercy. Stewardship goes one step further; it is an action caused not simply by feelings of tenderness toward a needy person. Stewardship is an expression of gratitude to God for everything we have, including life itself, and of the belief that the earth and all that is in it belongs to God. The CD of the month is “The Joy of Stewardship” by Fr. John Lanzrath. There is a limited number and they will be availa-ble in the back of churches. Take one and listen to it and share it with others or bring it back for others to listen to. The Featured Ministry of the Week is the Funeral Choir St. Aloysius: In 1981 volunteers gathered to provide support to families at the time of their bereavement by enhancing the funeral liturgy through song. We have 17 members, however not everyone is available for every funeral. This is a critical time for this ministry since we are losing several of our voices and the need is greater than ever. There are no rehearsals. We meet ½ hour before the funeral in the social hall. Please consider adding your name to the calling list. Contact person is Marion Rife 766-4532 I invite you to pray for those involved in this ministry and prayerfully consider joining this ministry. I invite you to collect all the ministries featured in the bulletin over the month, and then send them to me with the ministries listed, your full name, phone number, and mailing address. The dead line for those featured in February (Feb.1 – Feb. 23) is Mar. 2. The bulletins can also be found on our website www.skdchurch.org. You can mail them to me at the parish office or e-mail me at [email protected]. You will be en-tered in a drawing for a $25 scrip gift certificate. Together let us advance the mission of Jesus through faith-filled prayer, service to my neighbor, and generous sharing. Congratulations to Nancy Hartl, who won in the month of December. In the back of our churches there is material that is free. This material provides a variety of information and opportunities to help us grow in our faith. I would like to invite you to check it out. One of the pamphlets is entitled “Harbor House”. Check it out. Matthew: The King and His Kingdom is a video study featuring Jeff Cavins, a renowned Catholic Bible teacher. This bible study will take place on Thursday at 1:00 PM at St. Mary (Social Hall) and Thursday at 6:30 PM at St. Aloysius (Upper Lounge). Both sessions contain the same information. Contact Fr. Jerry 766-1445. Feb. 6 Matthew 22-23 “Let’s Get Real” Feb. 27 Matthew 24-25 Jesus Predicts the End of an Era

The Presentation of the Lord Once the end of the Christmas season, this feast is celebrated 40 days after Christmas which is when the presentation would have occurred according to Jewish law. The first born

male was to be consecrated to the Lord and then “redeemed”. The 40 day time span was the period that a woman was “unclean” after having a child and therefore could not enter the temple. Mary and Joseph followed the Law, presented Jesus, and “redeemed” him with an offering of two turtle doves or pigeons.

With the flu season here, so much talk is given to the use of anti-bacterial soap. Be careful in how you use it. Do not use it as body soap. Our skin naturally has bacteria on it and they are there for a good reason. They prevent opportunist bacteria from entering our body. Use regular soap for your bathing needs or you could develop boils and other skin infections. When do we use anti-bacterial soap? Use it after you have used your hands in touching other people. Our Care Ministry team uses it as we deliver communion to those in agencies or to the home bound. Good washing with regular soap for 2 minutes, or singing the Happy Birthday song slowly, should do the cleaning well. Be sure to wash the palms, wrists and each finger thoroughly!
