Wastewater Management in Petroleum Refineries

Abstract

This workshop will cover topics on wastewater sources and treatment technologies of a typical petroleum refinery. Wastewater characteristics will be explained based on fundamental concepts of chemistry and microbiology. This will provide the foundation for discussions on treatment technologies. The impacts of types of crudes and their processing steps in typical refinery operation will be discussed in detail. Working principles of various treatment technologies will be supplemented by case studies and troubleshooting guidelines. Attendees will be engineers, mid-level managers and operators of refineries and engineering & consulting firms. They will benefit from this workshop in understanding characterization; oil/solids removal; equalization; biological treatment; biological solids separation; selenium control and water reuse. It will be an interactive session where the participants will have ample opportunities to engage in discussions and network during breaks (including lunch break) and at the end of presentations.
