PARISH STAFF MASSES OF THE WEEK
What does it mean to be an active Catholic? Those seeking to celebrate Marriage, have children baptized, or have a letter signed to serve as sponsors for Confirmation or Baptism should be parishioners and active, practicing Catholics. To be considered active, one must have been registered in the parish for at least three months, attend Mass regularly, and be committed to a stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. We encourage all parishioners to become active in one of the parish organizations.
In a community as large as Our Lady of Hope, our most effective means of verifying active participation is through the use of parish offertory envelopes or electronic giving, such as Faith Direct. If you choose not to participate in the support of the parish, or are unable to contribute at this time, please note your prayerful support on your envelope and place it in the weekly offertory. We will then be aware of your continued participation, and you will not be noted as "inactive" on our parish roster.
PARISH INFORMATION
Baptism & Baptism Class: Baptisms are held on Sundays at 1:30 p.m. The baptism class for parents is held one Saturday a month at 11:00 a.m. Please call the Parish Secretary to pre-register for the next available class. Sacrament of Matrimony: In accordance with the regulations of the Bishop of Arlington, couples must contact a priest and begin preparation at least six months prior to the wedding. Parish registration and active participation for a minimum of three months is required before preparation may begin. Couples who are living together will be asked to live separately during the preparation time as living together before marriage is sinful and harmful to the future marriage.
First Communion: For Children: Generally, First Communion is received when a child is in second grade. Preparation for First Communion is a two year process, and students must complete both first and second grade classes before receiving Holy Communion. Please contact the Religious Education Office with questions. Sacramental Preparation for Adults (RCIA): Adults who wish to receive Baptism, First Communion, and/or Confirmation are invited to attend the Inquiry Class on Thursday evenings. Please contact the Parish Secretary or visit the website to register.
PREPARING FOR SACRAMENTS
Brother Francis Thornton | June 2020.
Brother Francis Thornton was instrumental in the success of our Drive Up Pancake Breakfast in May. Brother Francis, with a team of ten Knights and volunteers, served up over 350 pancake breakfast meals that raised $2,900.00, all of which was donated to Our Lady of Hope to offset shortages from the COVID-19 virus. His efforts and leadership provided a safe environment for not just the volun-teers but also all those that received meals.
KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
The Tippett Family | June 2020
Both Brother Jay and Cherie Tippett stepped up and organized the past month’s curb side pancake breakfast that served over 350 meals and raised close to $3.000 for the parish. Cherie and Jay could both be seen putting together orders and serving the families of the parish and were heavily involved in organizing the event.
Brother Jay also organized the Parish Security Team that provided augmented security for the parish to ensure that people had a safe and secure place to pray during the pandemic.
FAMILY OF THE MONTH
Each year, the Knights recognize a young man and woman who are pillars of our parish community and have excelled in their academics.
This year, the Knights of Columbus honor Alex Har-vey (son of Brother Loren and Diane Harvey) as Young Man of the Year, and Leecy Silk (daughter of Brother Tim and Christine Silk) as Young Woman of the Year. Both Alex and Leecy are active in the youth group. The values instilled in them from their families have shaped them into wonderful young people who take on the challenges of this world and will succeed.
YOUNG MAN & YOUNG WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Thus says the LORD: Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion, shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem! See, your king shall come to you; a just savior is he, meek, and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal of an ass. He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; the warrior’s bow shall be banished, and he shall proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
ZECHARIAH 9:9-10
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
Ps. 145:1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13-14
R./ I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Brothers and sisters: You are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through his Spirit that dwells in you. Consequently, brothers and sisters, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
ROMANS 8:9, 11-13
At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
MATTHEW 10:37-42
Most holy Virgin Mary, Mother of God, immaculate in body and soul, look kindly on your children who implore your powerful prayers. The wicked serpent fiercely continues to attack and ensnare us, the poor children of Eve.
Dear Blessed Mother, our queen and our advocate, our Lady of Hope, who has crushed the head of the enemy, receive the petitions we place before you today; especially for the victims of abuse and all human cruelty, / for the holiness of our clergy, and for healing within our Church.
We implore your prayers, O gracious Advocate, that we may never fall to the snares of the devil, that we may arrive at the gates of salvation, and that amidst so many dangers, each one of us may once again become a sign of God’s holiness for all the nations of the world. Amen.
PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH
