Letters to the Editor THANKSf To the Editor:

Favors Holding H.,rinl• To tbe Editor:

In reaponae to the letters that · have appeared in the Newa Revfew aupportinc the "runner-up" for the open · position pn ~City Council, I ol'f.er the following: •

The article by Mary Lou WilliamiiOJI In :rour Deceptbe.,16 iaaue relatin1 to m:r 20th annivenary wltb the City and Interviews lJ!ith other City Manareigo wu indeed moat llatterinc. I ap~ preclate the Newa Review providlnr me with thla !:J!Cotnltion. I also appreciate the good w'ords _about me from' my employers, the Cit:r ·Cou!lcil, stated in Resolution No. 580 which- the Council ordered published in the eame Issue. 1 was overwhelmed with .the numerous expressions of appreciation and conrratulatlorts I received frOm co-.-workers, state, county and other ·local rovernment oftlci•ia and friends. I sltall never forcet this anniversary.

During the time I have worked for the City, I have heard numeroua residents statt how much they 'liked being in Greenbelt and how they did not Wiah to live _ anywhere else. During last fall's reunion for the Cityls 46th anniveraary celebration, I heard many former residents aay that Qlfenbelt; was the beat place in w~h they had lived · and how aorry they were that they .had

. had to move aw~. !!ince I sHare these common tnllngs, _.I, too,

· chose to continue to live here. Greenbelt's city government

baa had a hilrh decree of stability over Ita ·46 :rear history. My p~ece11or, Cbarle• T. McDonald, aerved for an extended period of ~ime until hla retire~ ment and col)tinuea to make Gree~lt hla home. The Cit)' has manr employHa who have se"ed extended perioda of time, with pne, iacld&'- .AJ,tl,ek, retlril!.r. tf~r •o years of Mrvlce.

Under theae clrcuma-.ncea, I do not conaiiler it particularly unlqu!'l or "Bpeelal that I have worked for the City for 20 years. I do, however, most alneerel~ ap· preclate the opportunity to be able to Work for Greenbelt for

• tbla period an4 do appreciate the help and aupport 1 bave re-ceived _duri111 thla time from cltlsena, tbe City Council, fellow employees and the Newa Review.

Open Letter J

to the Grnnbelt City Council: thll

When voting, a aelectlo11 is made for ftve caadldates. In the most recent election, this selection waa made from a choice of ' eight candidates. The ftrst -and )ast choices of each voter were factora which could not be shown In the final _tabulaUoJl of votes. The sixth choice of voten who cast ballots for Richard Castaldi was not tabulated by the voting machines. Other factors include anythlnr that may hJve happened between September, '1981 and the present time. For these reaeons, the Council is correct in holding extensive hearings to determine the ftfth council seat until Sep--tember; .}98&_. > •
