Please to let us know if your email has changed or if you are not receiving emails from our parish. We periodically send
out notices and announcements of upcoming events.
CHANGES IN COLLECTIONS: It has been a year since the Archdiocese and our Parish made the decision to reduce the number of collections at Mass. Unfortunately, with the elimination of our monthly maintenance collections, totals for the offertory have been down. At our recent finance council meeting it was suggested to re-institute the monthly maintenance. It was the hope that the reduction of the second collections and elimination of the monthly maintenance would have helped to increase the weekly offertory; which it has not. Please prayerfully consider your continued and if your means will allow additional support of our Parish in the weekly offertory. While on vacation, please consider setting up an account on our “Online Giving” program. This can be done by going to our website: ipswichcatholics.org and clicking the “online giving” icon.

I have a few matters that I want to talk about! Both regarding changes! (don’t get your hopes up!)
I have been given an opportunity to visit Sponsored Friends through Unbound. (Unbound.org)
One trip is to Peru, the other is to Bolivia. These trips will cover most of the month of August.
Summer is a quiet time here in the Parish, so it is an ideal time to go. The problem is with Mass
coverage, particularly the Weekday Masses. It is almost impossible to find Weekday Mass coverage;
the shortage is that severe. So, the following will be done: There will be no Weekday, 9:00 AM Masses, August 3rd through August 14th. There will be
Weekday Masses on August 15 and 16. There will be no Weekday, 9:00 AM Masses, August 17th
through August 29th. For those who do go to Daily Mass, we invite you to attend Mass at St. Paul
in Hamilton, St. Mary in Rowley, Notre Dame Convent in Ipswich, Immaculate Conception in
Newburyport, St. Rose in Topsfield, Carmelite Chapel at North Shore Mall, etc. (please call them for
times). If a Funeral Mass comes in during this time, the Parish Office and Funeral Home will assist
in finding a Priest to celebrate it here. Remember! This is only for Weekday Masses! The Weekend (Sat 4PM, Sun 9AM and 11 AM) Masses
will be covered by visiting priests. Thank you for your understanding. Now for another “Change”, this time in regard to the Church building.
Like any old home or building, things wear out, need to be replaced or fixed. We have a few out-
standing problems in our Church building. First of all, the entire floor must be replaced. This is a
problem that has come with age. The present floor is cracking, coming apart in places. The floor
probably has asbestos within the tiles or adhesive. This will be a big project! Secondly, the doors of
the Church must be replaced. The present doors are almost beyond repair, not secure, some cannot
even be used due to the locking system. There are other possible needs and changes within the
building. We have begun to address many of these issues, for our Church building now, and for the
future! We have contacted and have begun to work with an Architect Partnership to address much
of this. This is only the beginning stages, but it must be done! The reality is that it is going to cost
us money! We will very probably have to have a major Capitol Campaign, take out a Loan, etc.
My personal thought about this is that the people in the 1960’s built the new Saint Joseph Church
for the future, so too should we “re-build, repair, renew” the Church for the future! Thank you for your time in reading and considering all the above! Enjoy the rest of your Summer!

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME OUR LADY OF HOPE, 1 PINESWAMP RD. IPSWICH JULY 21, 2019
PARISH WEBSITE: www.ipswichcatholics.org PARISH EMAIL: [email protected] 6
By Dr. Scott Hahn Waiting on the Lord Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C) Genesis 18:1-10 Psalm 15:2-5 Colossians 1:24-28 Luke 10:38-42 God wants to dwell with each of us personally, intimately - as the mysterious guests once visited Abraham's tent, as Jesus once entered the home of Mary and Martha. By his hospitality in this week’s First Reading, Abraham shows us how we are to welcome the Lord into our lives. His selfless service of his divine guests (see Hebrews 13:1) stands in contrast to the portrait of Martha drawn in this week’s Gospel. Where Abraham is concerned only for the well-being of his guests, Martha speaks only of herself - "Do you not care that my sister has left me by myself...Tell her to help me." Jesus' gentle rebuke reminds us that we risk missing the divine in the mundane, that we can fall into the trap of believing that God somehow needs to be served by human hands (see Acts 17:25). Our Lord comes to us, not to be served but to serve (see Matthew 20:28). He gave His life that we might know the one thing we need, the "better part" which is life in the fellowship of God. Jesus is the true Son promised today by Abraham's visitors (see Matthew 1:1). In Him, God has made an everlasting covenant for all time, made us blessed descendants of
Abraham (see Genesis 17:19, 21; Romans 4:16-17, 19-21).
The Church now offers us this covenant, bringing to completion the word of God, the promise of His plan of salva-tion, what Paul calls "the mystery hidden for ages." As once He came to Abraham, Mary and Martha, Christ now comes to each of us in Word and Sacrament. As we sing in this week’s Psalm: He will make His dwelling with those who keep His Word and practice justice (see also John 14:23). If we do these things we will not be anxious or disturbed, will not have our Lord taken from us. We will wait on the Lord, who told Abraham and tells each of us: "I will surely return to you." GET INVOLVED IN PARISH SAFETY PROGRAMS
Parents and guardians play a key role in the success of parish programs for young people. Parents and guardians who are involved in parish programs and events will be in the best position to protect their own children as well as all the children in the parish community. Involvement and communication are important factors in helping to ensure safe environments for all of our children.
