As we move into the year 2012, which marks the 50th Anniversary milestone for

Red Angus cattle in Canada, we have an abundance of things to be thankful for. I

am thankful to my Dad and my Uncles - Rod, Ted, Don and Ken - and my Grandpa

Rod for having the vision five decades ago to bring these glorious Red colored

Angus to our great country! 50 years at one task is amazing to say the least. I am

thankful to have my Mom’s fire and passion and my Dad’s strong values which have

enabled me to carry on and overcome the hardships and adversities that were

thrown our way the last few years. I am also thankful for our strong family that we

have - four healthy kids and one very patient, kind and strong wife who supported

me through it all. I am looking forward to the day when our two little ones get on the

bus with the older two so I can do this task of raising our

cattle with her beside me once again!

I am thankful for all the cattle people who have survived the business and hung

onto their cows since May 20th of 2003. Justin, Allan, Frank, Darren and Brant at

FMA (or SALE) all say they have just recently discovered that the majority of their

customers have teeth! The staff at FMA have seen them once again because it’s

fun and fashionable to go to the auction market and everyone is smilin’ in 2012!

Things look very, very good to be a cowman right now but I do want to point out one

thing about our bull sale - we have not increased the number of bulls at all just be-

cause prices are strong. We have kept up with our culling all along, especially on

the bull calves. Just because they are born with a set of nuts doesn’t mean they get

to keep ‘em automatically and be marketed as a bull.

• We have included the Brylor semen sales portion in the back on pages 38 -

40 for our semen customers’ shopping convenience

• Also, we have a new delivery policy we are implementing in 2012 to get back

to more of a commercial cowman’s way of doing things. For years now I’ve stated

that 99.9% of the commercial cowboys know it takes three things to go to the bull

sale - 1) your catalogue, 2) your checkbook, and 3) your trailer!!

We would geatly appreciate it if you could bring your own trailer but if you ab-

solutely cannot bring it or you are a “SUS” buyer (Sight Unseen) or going on ex-

port down south, then we will help out in any way we can; otherwise...

the new settlement table look will be in this order, though, in 2012:

Starting on the left - The sale clerks to take settlement and transfer instructions

In the middle - Brenda of Pincher Creek Agencies to insure your new purchases

On the right - Kody Kropius, our trucker buddy, to help you get your bulls home

within a few days of the sale.

No bulls, other than the export bulls that require health testing, will be

going back to stauffer Ranches this year. We know and trust that all of our com-

mercial customers can understand this new policy because that is the way it

happens every day at every auction market in the country after a sale.

2012 littlE rOyal Total ticket sales minus purchase price of the quad goes to-

wards the Little Royal Scholarship fund to be given to a son or

daughter of a Brylor Ranch bull customer that is currently attend-

ing university/college or is in Grade 12 and will be starting later

this fall.

The quad will be auctioned “Dutch Auction” style at the start

of the Bull Sale (see Auction Procedure outlined below).

Scholarship Applications - Applicants must forward a resumé

outlining future plans of future education to Sherry Mackenzie.

AUCTION PROCEDURE 1. The final bid in each round will denote the amount of that

bidder’s donation - e.g. -

Round 1 - Final Bid is $300.00 to John Doe.

John’s donation is $300.00

Round 2 - Final bid is $250.00 to Tom Jones.

Tom’s Donation is $250.00

Round 3 - The Female is re-auctioned on a downward scale

until no further bids are received at the low of $10

2. Each $10 purchased (donated) represents one chance in the final

draw, e.g. John Doe has 30 chances, Tom Jones has 25 chances

and so on down the scale to the final $10.00 donation worth one

chance each.

3. One ticket for every $10.00, bearing the contributor’s name will

be put into the draw barrel.

4. At the end of the sale, one ticket will be drawn with that person

winning the “Polaris 2012 Sportsman 500 Image” quad!!

My name is Shelby Weiss, I am 20 years old and have lived on the Diamond K CattleCo. Ltd. for the first 18 years of my life. The past two years I have attended LethbridgeCollege completing the first half of the bachelor of nursing program. The Diamond K CattleCompany is situated 18 miles southwest of Maple Creek, SK, in the heart of the CypressHills. I enrolled in 4-H at the young age of nine and continued pursuing this until I was 17years of age. I have shown many breeds of cattle including Hereford, Charolais and RedAngus. Being a part of a 4-H club for eight years has enabled me to develop many lifeskills such as leadership, communication and a compassionate attitude towards animals.These life skills have been of great help in achieving academic and personal standingwithin my university degree program.

I am currently pursuing a career in nursing at the University of Lethbridge. Once Icomplete the RN program I believe that many doors will be open for me to pursue my ca-reerrural Saskatchewan or Alberta. It is very important to me to be able to stay close thearea where I grew up and developed a love of animals and the rural way of life.

My name is Riley Hansen. I am 19 years old and currently attending the LethbridgeCollege trying to find my dream career. I enjoy many outdoor activities, especially hockeyand hiking. I grew up on a farm 20 miles southwest of Cardston,one of the most beautifulplaces on this planet - filled with many trees and rolling hills, right on the face of Ol’ Chief.Growing up out here has to be one of the best experiences. I have always had a love ofthe land and the farm has given me the opportunity to develop skills that will help me inthe future. My grandfather started raising cattle when he took over the family farm in theearly 1950’s and the farm has now grown to operating and maintaining just over 350 headof cattle.

Going to college in Lethbridge has made me realize how important the farm has beento me and although I am only in Lethbridge, I miss the farm and love coming home onweekends to help out. Although my future goals are not currently set, I am consideringbecoming a geologist as I enjoy learning about the earth and have concluded that I wantto have a job that is related to Earth Sciences or the Environment. Once my career is es-tablished, I would like to, someday, come back to the ranch.

My name is Morgan Claypool. I grew up on a cow/calf operation 40 kilometers northof Pincher Creek. Growing up on a ranch in rural Alberta has instilled good values and Ihave learned many skills that have helped me in all aspects of my life. I have been in-volved in many community and school activities over the years including high schoolrodeo and team sports. In all of these I have been determined and hardworking, alwaystrying to achieve the goals I set out for myself. I have gained many valuable lessons frombeing able to participate in such a wide variety of activities.

Currently I am a grade twelve student attending Matthew Halton High School inPincher Creek. I have attained Honour Roll status throughout my schooling. I have re-ceived Academic Awards including Grade 7, 8, and 9 English Language Arts Highest Aca-demic Award, Grade 10 Highest Academic Average, and the Grade 11 Biology Award.

My future plans include becoming a Respiratory Therapist. I have applied to SAIT,NAIT, and Thompson Rivers University. The Respiratory Therapy Program is a difficultprogram to get into and I am currently working very hard to continue to obtain the requiredmarks. I have been accepted into the selection process at all three schools.

My name is Taylorre Weiss and I was born and raised on the Diamond K Cattle Co.ranch South West of Maple Creek, SK., at the base of the beautiful Cypress Hills. This up-bringing has instilled many life skills and lessons such as work ethic, patience and respectfor others. My earliest childhood memories of living on the ranch are being dad’s chorehelper in the feed truck, watching the Prairie Farm report at lunch and making sure allranch operations run smoothly of course!

This is about the time when I first became involved in 4-H at the age of 6 years fromwhich my passion for animals continues. Besides 4-H, I have been involved in many otherclubs and organizations, all of which have provided me with the ability to lead and the con-fidence to reach my potential.

Currently I am living in Lethbridge, AB., completing my second year in the registerednursing program where the opportunities and possibilities are endless. This career cantake me anywhere in the world but in the back of my mind I am still hoping our new hospi-tal will be built soon and I can return to my hometown of Maple Creek and combine both ofmy passions in one place.

He’s hadjust about every adjective in the book used to describe him and he’s the only RedAngus bull in the world that has had a theme sale formed from his progeny alone.In October of 2011 in Emporia, Kansas, the “one of a kind” event called “MulberryMayhem” took place with 52 lots of Mulberry sired live cattle, embryos and a fewextra treats averaging a little under $7000! Mulberry truly is the most prized,cherished and valuable bull ever in the history of the breed when, literally, a tinypiece of him (an ear notch from which to create the exact genetic replica orclone) sold for $37,000! His last semen in the U.S. also sold in that event with200 straws averaging $208/straw. He is officially off the market in most countries now but Mulberry is still aliveand will live out his days at Brylor Ranch with his sons and daughters now creat-ing their own legendary status, too.

Since being our high seller and syndicated bull in 2009 at $85,000Big Rock has left a mark on thie industry with sons topping sales in 2011 at LewisFarms, WRAZ, and Diamond T. Daughters have sold for $16,000 at Damars’and $11,000 at Red Round-up last fall from SSS. Also a daughter topped thebreds at the “Cowgirls” Sale at $13,000 and another son also sold very last in theBrylor 40th Bull Sale at $9250 to Leroy Browlee as a herdsire. No semen available in Canada.

Here are the first sons to sell from a new bull to the Red Angusscene in Canada. A few years back when we sold Toast to Biebers, I saw thisbull in person... and his dam. I rarely use a bull I don’t own so I purchased theCanadian rights on him and am extremely happy with the results. His sons arevery deep sided, hairy, big nutted and very performance oriented. His dam alsoproduced the Makin’ Hay 9913 bull who had three sons sell in our 2011 Bull Saleto average $25,000. Roughrider is off the market now and we have limited semen left on him.

You need to see this bull’s daughters in production right now - theyare absolutely beautiful with near perfect udders, moderate framed,stunningly feminine and have terrific feet! Any time you buy a bull, especially if you’ve paid a lot of money for him, youwonder how he will turn out. I suppose the best statement I can make aboutArson is... he’s scheduled to breed more cows in 2012 at Brylor!

I like these Rough Rider sons for their overall performance andeasy doing nature. They will pound down the scales and leave very good, useful,profitable kind of replacements. We are using Rough Rider very heavily in 2012 and for 2013 again. They

Last summer Miles from Semex came through our ranch with a group ofSouth Africans and 50Y was their pick. As just a baby calf one month old, KentMcCune found this tag, 50Y, in our two year old pen of cows and calves “quitehandily” he stated. When I implanted 20 embryos from this mating into LittleRoyal heifers in 2010, I wanted more bulls than heifers but that proved out theother way - 9 heifers and 1 bull later we got 50Y! His dam, 33M, is a half interest $15,000 ten year old cow now at Griffins inIowa. She is a maternal sister to Mlberry. Coupled with the 70M son calledPasqulae and you get Eberle 50Y. His namesake, Jordan Eberle (#14 now with the Edmonton Oilers) singlehandedly stole the show in the 2008 World Junior’s Tournament against the Rus-sians. Both these Eberle guys will be fun to watch in the future!

All three havegreat dispositions and are royally bred. A favourite of mine, Big Rock was our powerful syndicate bull in2009 at $85,000 and has produced very well for all the 10 shareholders in him.33X’s dam now resides in the US at 3 Fires / JK and is a super daughter of the2003 US National Champion Bull, Grand Prix.

She sold in “Tradition With A Vision” at$10,000 to them in 2008 and has not looked back since. She had a heifer calf,19U, at side that day, by Mulberry, that brought $7500 for half interest to WRAZ.19U went on to win Heifer Calf Champion at Farmfair and Agribition that samefall and then her division at the World Angus Forum. She also produced the$47,500 Makn’ Waves 39X bull (see the back cover today). 22L has producedseveral ET calves for JK now including 7 heifers that have sold to gross $63,500.Not too bad on the “R.O.I.” department!
