Caring for the Environment

Responsible disposal of the packaging

The packaging of your appliance has been selected from environmentally friendly materials and can usually be recycled. Please ensure these are disposed of correctly.

Plastic wrapping can be a suffocation hazard for babies and young children, please ensure all packaging materials are out of reach and are safely disposed of. Please ensure they are offered for recycling rather than throwing these materials away.

Responsible disposal of the appliance

At the end of its working life, do not throw this appliance out with your household rubbish. An environmentally friendly method of disposal will ensure that valuable raw materials can be recovered and used again.

Electrical and electronic appliances contain materials and substances which, if handled or disposed of incorrectly, could be potentially hazardous on the environment and human health.

Observe any local regulations regarding the disposal of electrical consumer goods and dispose of it appropriately for recycling and recovery of the refrigerant. This appliance contains the flammable refrigerant isobutane (R134a) and cyclopentane (R141b) in the cabinet insulation, and must be disposed of in a separate waste collection. Contact your local authorities for advice on recycling facilities in your area.

Take care not to damage the pipework at the back of the appliance before or during transportation so that the refrigerant gas cannot escape.

The plug must be rendered useless and the cable cut off directly behind the appliance or the machine to prevent misuse.

DANGER. Risk of child entrapment: When discarding a fridge or freezer, make sure to take off the door and the spring action or bolt catch. Leave the shelves in place so that children cannot easily climb in, get trapped inside and suffocate.

Safety Information and Warnings

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

WARNING Keep ventilation openings in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure clear of obstruction.

WARNING Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

WARNING Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.

WARNING Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartments of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.

WARNING Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this appliance.

This appliance is intended to be used in the household and similar applications such as staff kitchen areas, offices and other working environments, in shops, farm houses and by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments, bed and breakfast type environments, catering and similar non-retail applications.

Energy Saving Tips

The appliance should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from heat producing appliances or heating ducts and out of direct sunlight.

Allow hot food to cool to room temperature before placing it in the appliance. Overloading the appliance forces the compressor to run longer. Foods that freeze too slowly may lose quality or spoil.

Be sure to wrap foods properly and wipe containers dry before placing them in the appliance, this will cut down on frost build-up inside the appliance.

The storage bin should not be lined with aluminium foil, wax paper, or paper towelling. Liners interfere with cold air circulation, making the appliance less efficient.

Organise and label food to reduce door openings and extended searches. Remove as many items as needed at one time, and close the door as soon as possible.

Before Turning on the Appliance

Do not turn on until two hours after moving the appliance.

Noise Inside the Appliance

You may notice that your appliance makes some unusual noises. Most of these are perfectly normal, but you should be aware of them.

These noises are caused by the circulation of the refrigerant liquid in the cooling system. It has become more pronounced since the introduction of CFC free gases. This is not a fault and will not affect the performance of your appliance. This is the compressor motor working, as it pumps the refrigerant around the system.

Hints and Tips

When storing foods for a long period it is recommended the freezer is set a temperature of -18°C or below.

Hot food should be cooled to room temperature before it is placed in the freezer.

It is not recommended to store glass containers with liquid in the freezer as the glass may break.

To minimise the amount of time the freezer door is open and to save energy, label containers and store similar foods together.

Do not place food too close to the airflow outlet or inlet and leave space between containers to allow cold air to circulate.

Troubleshooting

Before contacting GVA after-sales support, please check the below.

Problem Possible Cause Solution

Freezer does not work. No power to the appliance. Power cord is unplugged. Wrong voltage is being used.

Check connection of the power cord to the power source. Plug in the appliance. Use correct voltage.

Freezer runs continuously.

Temperature set too low. Door is not closed. Hot food placed inside. Door opened too long or too often. Door opened too long or too direct sunlight. Something blocking inlet or outlet airflow gap.

Lower temperature control. Close door securely. Ensure food is at room temperature. Minimise door opening or duration. Do not place the unit too close to heat source or direct sunlight. Check if anything is blocking the airflow.

Strange Noises

The freezer will produce normal operating sounds, for example a bubbling noise occurs when the refrigerant is pumped through the tubing, this is not a cause for concern.

Moisture

In humid weather moisture may build up around the edges of the door, this can be wiped away with a dry cloth.

Heat

While the appliance is in operation heat will be emitted from both sides, ensure the freezer has proper ventilation and there is nothing blocking the airflow.
