Market Beef Weigh-In

BV County’s market beef weigh-in will be

Saturday, December 14 from 8:30-9:30am at the

Schable Farm, 1329 600th Street, Storm Lake.

All market animals must be weighed in prior to

January 31, 2020. 4-H ear-tags will be available for $3 each at the

weigh-in or at the Ext. office if you attend a different county weigh-in. If

you plan to show beef at the state fair, retinal images are required. This

service is available at Sac County market beef weigh-in on Saturday,

January 4, 1-3pm. Contact Nichol if you plan to attend another county

weigh-in. Please see inside for more Special Beef Information.

BV SHOOTING SPORTS

Celebrate more than 60 years of CWF by joining the 2020 Iowa

4-H Citizenship Washington Focus Trip held June 19-27, 2020.

All teens who are currently in 9th-12th grades are eligible to

register for the trip. There are 48 seats for teens. The trip will

cost $1850 and includes the program, travel, lodging, and most

meals. Adult chaperones are needed as well. Look for updates

and registration information on the Iowa 4-H CWF webpage. Funding can be requested from BV County

Endowment—complete the “Endowment Financial Assistance” form found at www.extension iastate.edu/

buenavista/4h (right hand column, near the bottom). Registration Deadline is January 17, 2020.

POULTRY ORDERING WORKSHOP

Register NOW for BV Shooting Sports—Deadline is Dec 1 Learn safety education and various disciplines including rifle, shot gun and/or archery from certified instructors. Many 4-H members join BV Shooting Sports in addition a community club. To Register for 2020 session (beginning in January):

Come and Go Poultry Ordering Workshop

What: Each year, members of the poultry project place a group poultry

order. Benefits include reduced cost on larger orders, better survival rates on

large group shipments, and information and advice from Poultry

Superintendent Amber Kragel on various breeds for fun and show.

When: Wednesday, Dec 4, 5:30—6:30pm, Come and Go as you are able

Where: Extension Office

Who: Clovers Kids and 4-Hers who would like to purchase chicks to be shipped

in the middle of February (around Feb 18). A winter ship date ensures poultry

are an adequate size for the Buena Vista County Fair.

LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE Escape Room for Club Officers & Aspiring Leaders

What: In order to ESCAPE...you will need to demonstrate skills

needed by club leaders! Whether you are a club officer or would

like to be in the future...the Leadership Escape Room will be a

great way for club members to team-build and learn together.

When: Tuesday, December 31, Noon—4:00pm

Where: Extension Office

Who: 4th grade—12th grade youth

Cost: FREE with Lunch Included

Interested in Robotics? Legos? Technology & Engineering? STEM?

Check out our 4-H STEM/Robotics Club!

4-Hers will engage in a variety of tasks including constructing Lego robots, coding and programming, engineering challenges, and utilizing other technology like BeeBots, Dash, Cubelets and Merge Cubes.

When: Mondays, Jan. 20, 27, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24, 5:30-7:00pm

CERAMICS WORKSHOP Paint, Glaze and Fire Ceramics

What: The House of Ceramics (Sac City) staff will teach us the

process of setting molds, painting, glazing and firing ceramics.

Participants can choose from a variety of molded pieces & then apply

custom paint. One week later, fired projects will be ready for pick up.

When: Monday, December 30, 1:30—5:30pm

Where: Meet at Extension Office, we will travel to Sac City in a van

Who: 4th grade—12th grade youth, limited to 15 participants

Cost: $5 per project, transportation included

"The fees for service will be used to offset

direct expenses and to support the Buena Vista

County 4-H Program."
