Transcript of 4. and 5. 2 d and 3d gestures
Assignment 1
• Les Fauves: French for “The Wild Beasts”• Gesture drawings are quick, expressive, and “wild”• Practice your gesture drawing skills:
– Model for each other in active poses (start with a 2-minute sketch, then 1 minute, then 30 seconds, then 10 seconds per sketch)
– Try different line qualities when sketching (angular vs. organic)• Create a gesture drawing that expresses wild movement using a
variety of wild, bright colors– You can use your sketches for inspiration
• Suggested media options: pen, watercolor, chalk (you can use one, two, or all three of these…the point is to experiment with what medium helps you get the “wildest” result)
Assignment 2
• Create a colorful, “wild,” gestural figure sculpture using wire
• Think of how body language communicates emotion
• Choose an emotion on which to focus, sculpt it “gesturally” out of wire, and then use colors that correspond to the emotion to paint sections of the wire accordingly
