ASTRI5G CORE NETWORK SOLUTIONIntroduction5G core network requires the ability to deliver high capacity with high degree of flexibility and programmability for supporting diversified and demanding services. Each 5G service may have unique requirements such as network and computing resources, network bandwidth and latency, quality of service, network security and policy.
ASTRI’s 5G Core solution, compliant with 3GPP Release 15, is a licensable platform to facilitate 5G R&D and end-to-end system integration.
ASTRI has developed EPC and virtual EPC since 2012. With the 3GPP release 15 standard already announced,
there is a new 5G core network architecture. ASTRI continues to develop 5G core which enables direct
connection with 5G NR (New Radio) and unlocks the end-to-end benefits of 5G by providing new capabilities,
such as:
- Service Base Architecture (SBA): control plane network functions are fine grained and loosely
coupled. Network functions are interfaced using web-based APIs; enabling service composition becomes
easier.
- Control and User Plane Separation (CUPS): the separation of control plane (CP) and user plane
(UP) provides topology flexibility and independent capacity scaling.
- Network Slicing: multiple applications can be deployed in its separated logical networks (network
slices) in a shared 5G infrastructure.
- Edge Computing: User plane function (UPF) can be distributed and deployed close to the users to
enable ultra-low latency and time-sensitive usage scenarios.
Evolution from 4G to 5G
Scalable Throughput to 200Gbps
ASTRI’s 5G Core User Plane Function (UPF) delivers high network throughput. ASTRI’s UPF
can leverage the Dynamic Device Personalization (DDP) capability on Intel XXV710 to achieve
fine grade load balancing. On a single Intel x86 server, the UPF throughput can scale from
40Gbps to over 200Gbps.
Open API
ASTRI’s 5G Core supports Open API for 5G applications to interact with the core network, e.g.
subscribe to mobility events, Industrial IoT.
Orchestration & Network Slicing
ASTRI’s 5G Core Network orchestrator enables end-to-end virtualized deployment of 5G core
network. The orchestrator supports network slicing management.
