Please find enclosed the data validation summaries and laboratory analytical data from the independent laboratory that analyzed the water samples collected in July August and September 20 1 a from your home In the attached information references to samples that were not collected from your property have been blacked out to avoid confusion Also enclosed is a review by the consultant that has been retained to review all data that is related to human health that might be associated with the Olin facilities located at 51 Eames Street

As you can see from the repOli there are two analytes detected outside of their regulatory standard or guideline

NDMA was detected at a concentration of 0000031 milligrams per liter (mgL) in August and 0000017 mgL in September which is above the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protections (MassDEP) Office of Research and Standards guideline (ORSG) of 000001 mgL in drinking water supplies USEPA previously communicated to you that public water supply operators are required to report concentrations of NDMA detected at or above the 000001 mgL but the MassDEP guidelines does not require that actions be taken to limit exposures Public water supply operators are required to take action if NDMA is detected at or above a concentration of 000005 mgL Your well is below that concentration

Sodium was detected in your well at a maximum concentration of23 mgL in September compared to the MassDEP ORSG guideline of 20 mgL in drinking water The guideline for sodium was established so that people on a salt restricted diet would be aware of the sodium content of their water

DATA VALIDATION SUMMARY OLIN CHEMICAL SUPERFUND SITE WILMINGTON MASSACHUSETTS Test America Data Sets 360-30382

10 INTRODUCTION

This sample set contains results from the sampling event at residential well sample (Map 24 Lot 94) collected September 292010 The sample was analyzed by TestAmerica Laboratories (TAL) at locations in Westfield Massachusetts and West Sacramento California The sample was analyzed for the following parameters

bull N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) by USEPA modified Method 521 bull Metals (calcium chromium and sodium) by USEPA Method 6010B bull Anions (chloride sulfate nitrate and nitrite) by USEPA Method 3000 bull Nitrogen as Ammonia by LACHA T 107-06-1 B

The sample included in this review is summarized on Table 1 With the exception of the items below results are interpreted to be usable as reported by the laboratory A complete summary of f111al sample results is included in Table 2

Results were reported by TAL in sample delivery group 360-30382 Data were validated in accordance with the Final Project Operations Plan Volume III-B Quality Assmance Project Plan (QAPP) [MACTEC 2009] Olin Level I reviews were completed as described in the QAPP

20NDMA

NDMA analysis was completed using a modified USEPA Method 521 procedure which provides very low detection limits at an analytical reporting limit of 2 ngL NDMA samples are collected in ambershyglass bottles and chilled prior to analysis

Quality control evaluations were based on project specific method perfonnance objectives described in the Final Project Operations Plan Volume ITI-B Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) [MACTEC 2009] the TAL SOP WS-MS-0012 for NDMA analysis and professional judgment of the project chemist The analytical package was reviewed using data quality evaluation checkl ists that were developed specifically for the Olin Chemical Superfund Site Validation included a full review of all documentation and data associated with sample collection shipment and analysis The following items are included in the NDMA validation
