THE OLD TESTAMENT is the story of how God prepared the world for the coming of His Son. Advent is the time when we, as Christians, prepare ourselves for the coming of God's Son, and the Jesse Tree is a unique way of preparing for Christmas. Join us in Room 7 each Sunday of Advent to follow the Jesse Tree stories and see how God made the world ready for His coming. Sessions will be from 9:00 am to 10:15 am beginning on November 27. Contact Christine Johnson (915-6343) for more information. FLOAT FOR THE CHRISTMAS PARADE OLPH is putting together a float for the Salem Christmas parade on December 2. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the Commons; please look to see what you might be able to do. This is a combined effort of all our organizations here at OLPH and anyone else that wants to help. JOY will be taking a trip to Wohlfahrt Haus for the Christmas special on Wednesday, December 14. Come and enjoy a delicious holiday feast and production filled with the Christmas songs you know and love with a breath-taking Nativity that will put you in the Christmas spirit. The bus will leave the parking lot at 10:30 am and return around 5:30 pm. Sign up at the bulletin board in the Commons and leave your money at the office. Tickets are $45. All are welcome.

ORDER OF FRANCISICANS SECULAR Almost 800 years ago in Assisi, a man named Francis was called by God to “Rebuild My Church.” The times were difficult, war and greed were rampant. He chose the Life of Christ (Gospels) as his guide. People began to follow him embracing his values of poverty, joy, simplicity, gratitude and love of all God’s creatures. They continue to do so today. If you would like to learn more, consider yourself, cordially invited to the Fraternity of the Companions of Francis and Clare on Sunday, November 20 and/or Sunday, December 18 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 1:00 pm and see if this might be for you. For more

information, call Tom Fame at 521-6414 or Vicki Hubbard at 389-4092.

ADVENT Only two more weeks until the beginning of Advent - a good time to increase your prayer life or start a new one. Our Little Blue Books for advent will be available in the Commons this Sunday, November 20. THE COLLECTION for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) provides funding for groups that make lasting change and uplift the poor in the United States. CCHD’s grants improve education, support economic development, and create affordable housing in low-income neighborhoods. Help us continue to defend human dignity and build communities of solidarity. Please give generously to the CCHD collection. ROOM REMODEL We are in the process of refurbishing a room in the Family Life Center and need some donated items. We need a rug, end tables, lamps, a coffee table and a fake plant or two. If you have any of these items in good condition that you would like to donate, please send measurements and a picture to Angela at [email protected] so we can determine if it is a good fit for the room. Thanks so much for your help!

Most people look to the end of the calendar year to begin making resolutions for the next year. There seems to be this magical break in human time because of the changing of a year. Suddenly, the world is filled with new possibilities and promises of a fruitful future. However, an everyday steward does not need to wait for the first of January to make some resolutions or changes in life. This Sunday marks the end of another liturgical year. Next Sunday, we begin looking toward Christmas with the First Sunday of Advent. Today is a great day to make some decisions and turn attention to improving our spiritual life. Starting in Advent, you could make a resolution to spend more time with the Scriptures. God is trying to tell you something, but you have to be more mindful to really listen. You could challenge yourself to each day do something generous that you might not normally do. The challenges don't have to be large or cost a lot, but they should push you a little out of your comfort zone. That's why we call them challenges. You could also resolve to keep a gratefulness journal, where you record daily your thanks for wonderful things in your life. This will help you examine your life more closely and will help you realize the wealth that God has given you, even in the small things. Don't wait to strengthen your discipleship and stewardship way of life. The Church is beginning anew and that means you are too! You are the Church, right? Don't wait another month. Organize your life with the rhythm of the liturgical year, not the year defined by a party in Times Square. Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS © Liturgical Publications Inc
