IHN/FAMILY PROMISE will be with us from Sunday, December 18 through Sunday, December 24. Anytime to be without a home is tough, but especially at Christmas time it is even tougher. This is a busy week for all of us, but this is a wonderful time of year to do something special for a family in need. A sign up sheet will be in the Commons on the bulletin board for people to cook dinners, host an evening with our guests, do an overnight, or help set-up or clean-up. God bless not only the people who will be our guests but you as well. PARISH LIBRARY OPEN FOR YOU Our parish library, located near the office, is available for you. One way to know God better is to study, a little every day, by reading Catholic books or listening to CDs while driving in your car. Please feel free to take books from our library. Our collection includes: The Mass: the Glory, the Mystery, the Tradition, by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, 2011, pp. 215. This book reviews a short history of the Mass, along with walking through all the parts of the Mass to explain what is happening and why. Take it home and see what it has to say. A BIG THANK YOU TO Roanoke Catholic drama club and choir for coming and helping us enter into the spirit of advent with their production of the Nativity Play. Our young thespians showed spirit and exuberance as they acted out in scripture and song the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. THE WOMEN’S CLUB says thank you to everyone who baked, made a donation, or purchased from the “Winter Bake Sale”. All proceeds will go to St. Francis Service Dogs and the good work that they do. THE 2017 CALENDARS are in the commons this week and next. We ask that each family only take one calendar please and also to patronize and/or thank the businesses that it make it possible for us to have the calendars. Once again we thank and recognize these businesses. THE PARISH would like to take this opportunity to thank Roy Bordeaux for his help in coordinating the landscaping of our parish grounds looking great. Roy finds it necessary to step down from this ministry due to other commitments. We have a great team of people who really do a good job and take gardening seriously, and a big thank you goes to one and all. Would you be able to help in these efforts as well? Call the church office at 387-0491.

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Feast Day December 12

Monday, December 12 is the feast day of Our Lady

of Guadalupe and is a special day in Mexico as the

whole country celebrates this feast. It is a celebration like no other.

As you know, the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of conversion

for not just a few but for a whole country at a time of great distress

for the native peoples of Mexico. Fifty-two tribes will gather at the

basilica in Mexico to give praise to God through Our Lady in song and

dance with fireworks and feasting. Our Hispanic brother and sisters

have brought this celebration to the United States and in many places

throughout America there are big celebrations as well. St. John Paul II

named Our Lady of Guadalupe the protector of all the Americas on one

of his visits to Mexico.

*************************** SUNDAY’S WORD is on the bookcase in the commons. These are the Sunday readings for this liturgical year. A donation of $3.00 is suggested. Extra copies are in the church. These are on the bookcase by the sacristy for use during Mass only.

that you might like to consider.

“At Advent we should try the key to our heart’s door. It may have gathered rust. If so, this is the time to oil it, in order that the heart’s door may open more easily when the Lord Jesus wants to enter at Christmas time!”
