As much as I love summer time and being able to wear sandles and short pants, I guess all good things must come to an end. For many, the end of summer means kids going back to school, the possibility of the first big snow, and most of all, the onset of football. Now, while this is an exciting time for most people I know, I will miss Red’s games, Little League, softball and NASCAR. I will also miss my family. While football is not my favorite sport, my husband and my mother absolutely love it. They can sit for hours and days on end watching some team, any team, play until the whistle blows. To them, I guess I will say, see you next Spring. Love you, mean it (insert my famous eye roll here) :) What does the end of summer mean for our Lodge? It means that it is time to get busy and that is exactly what we are doing. As previously advertised, we now have NFL Sunday Ticket. While most watering holes in town have discontinued their coverage, we are gearing up for NFL fun. Perhaps Buddy Legg will loan us the celebratory light and siren for when the Browns score a touchdown. Oh wait, that wouldn’t get much use anywhere if we are talking about the Browns. We will be opening at 1p.m. on Sundays and enjoying as many gridirons as we can until our volunteer bartender calls game over. Since the Lodge got NFL Sunday ticket for free this year (by signing up for DirecTV) and we do not have any expense other than utilities, we intend to save our proceeds so that we can continue this celebration next year. If at all possible, and we can tear away from our football coma, we will be planning the upcoming Soccer Shoot. This is a Lodge program designed to encourage children to get out and get moving and practice good sportsmanship. This also serves as an opportunity to potentially build membership. Anyone interested in helping with this year’s shoot, please contact me. The Marshall Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 2nd. This is also a great way to get involved with your Lodge. Bob Angelo heads this project up and it is a great way for our Lodge to earn a little cash by cooking and serving food to the runners and their families. The number of runners in the race has increased dramatically, which in turn, means that the workload for the Lodge has increased. It will be all hands on deck bright and early Sunday morning. Of course, the marathon follows the Lodge Halloween Party the Friday night prior and the Gun Bash the night before. It will be a whirlwind weekend of Elkdom, so come out and join us. We can work a little and play a little too. Fraternally, Jamie P.S. I will be having eye surgery on September 4th and again on September 18th. While I may not be at the Lodge everyday, I can still be reached by email, text, cell or Facebook. Drop me a line sometime. 304-638-2774 or [email protected] Volume 01 / Number 05

EXALTED RULER MESSAGE

School’s In For Winter

Boy, that doesn’t have the nice ring of the famous Alice Cooper song ‘School’s Out For Summer’, does it? As much as I

love summer time and being able to wear sandles and short pants, I guess all good things must come to an end. For many, the

end of summer means kids going back to school, the possibility of the first big snow, and most of all, the onset of football. Now,

while this is an exciting time for most people I know, I will miss Red’s games, Little League, softball and NASCAR. I will also

miss my family. While football is not my favorite sport, my husband and my mother absolutely love it. They can sit for hours and

days on end watching some team, any team, play until the whistle blows. To them, I guess I will say, see you next Spring. Love

you, mean it (insert my famous eye roll here) :)

What does the end of summer mean for our Lodge? It means that it is time to get busy and that is exactly what we are

doing. As previously advertised, we now have NFL Sunday Ticket. While most watering holes in town have discontinued their

coverage, we are gearing up for NFL fun. Perhaps Buddy Legg will loan us the celebratory light and siren for when the Browns

score a touchdown. Oh wait, that wouldn’t get much use anywhere if we are talking about the Browns. We will be opening at

1p.m. on Sundays and enjoying as many gridirons as we can until our volunteer bartender calls game over. Since the Lodge got

NFL Sunday ticket for free this year (by signing up for DirecTV) and we do not have any expense other than utilities, we intend to

save our proceeds so that we can continue this celebration next year.

If at all possible, and we can tear away from our football coma, we will be planning the upcoming Soccer Shoot. This is

a Lodge program designed to encourage children to get out and get moving and practice good sportsmanship. This also serves

as an opportunity to potentially build membership. Anyone interested in helping with this year’s shoot, please contact me.

The Marshall Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 2nd. This is also a great way to get involved with your

Rub-a-dub-dub, Thanks For The Grub

In case you haven’t heard, we have a new cook helping us out at lunch. Howard Garrett, brother of Elson

Garrett, is serving up some fantastic food. Our lunch business has doubled! Come on down and help out the

Lodge while getting a fantastic meal. We have an all new and exciting menu, so come and check us out...and

bring your friends!

We’ll do the Mash, the Monster Mash

Come on down Friday, October 31st for a ghoulishly good time. The Lodge will be hosting its annual Hallow-

een Bash starting at 8p.m. We will be having live music, food, drink specials and costume contests for the

best costume (male, female and couples). You can bob for apples and then grab a cup of witch’s brew fresh

from the cauldron. We will be charging a $5 cover for the evening.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

The House Committee has upgraded our Lodge television service to DirecTV. We have six independent boxes

(5 boxes downstairs and 1 box in the Trigger Jarrell Room) and can watch six different channels at one time.

We will be offering NFL Sunday Ticket at the Lodge for FREE this fall. The Lodge will begin opening on Sun-

days to celebrate! Come on down and cheer on your favorite team!!

By switching to DirecTV, we will have the ability to carry EVERY televised Marshall Game! We bleed green at

313, so join us for tailgate parties and come watch the game with us! GO HERD!!!!

Elks Esquire Golf Tournament

The Lodge will be hosting a golf tournament on Sunday, October 5th at the Esquire Country Club. Shot gun

start is at 1PM. Cost to play is $50/person or $200 for a team. Price includes cart, beer, picnic dinner and

prizes. We cannot accommodate more than 18 teams, so sign up today. Pre-register by calling Reno at 606-

369-3904. Non-members, playing with members, are welcome to join us!

Attention All Card Players

Did everyone notice that REKOP is scheduled twice this month? Ron Hay has graciously agreed to host a

“Beginner’s REKOP” night each month. The evening is designed for less experienced players than our current

“card sharks”. Buy-ins and antes are lower. People of all abilities are welcome. Game starts at 6:30 in the

Trigger Jarrell Room.

Get Ready for a Shoot ‘Em Up Good Time

The Lodge will host it’s first ever gun bash on Saturday, November 1st. We will be giving a gun away every fifteen minutes. The

party will start at 8PM (doors open at 7PM). Gun Bash Tickets will be available for $25 Tickets will be available at the lodge some-

time in August, so stop in to pick yours up. A gun bash ticket gets you into the party. Additional guests can gain access for a $5

admission fee.

Our goal is to sell 750 tickets. To do this, we will need everyone’s help in selling tickets. If you are interested in helping sell tickets,

please contact a member of the House Committee. Winners do not need to be present to win. All guns can be picked up at the dealer,

after the completion of a successful background check, some time after the week of the event. Guns will not be on Lodge premises.

Let’s Go Krogering!

Do you have a Kroger Plus Card? Are you interested in a super easy way to help the Lodge raise money for

our State Major Project? If so, link your Kroger card to our Kroger Community Reward number. Go to

www.krogercommunity rewards.com and sign up today. After August 30th, if your Kroger card is attached to

our Community Reward number, Kroger will donate a percentage of your Kroger purchases back to our

Lodge. We are helping support our State Major Project by doing what we would normally be doing any-

way...buying groceries and fuel! It’s that simple. If you do not have a Kroger Plus card, the website above

will provide you information on how to obtain one. So get out there and get Krogering!
