    Europe: machinery directive 2006/42 EC

The machinery directive is a law, punishment is possible

    if not followed

Only the manufacturer is responsible to bring a safemachine to the market

The market surveillance is checking if the machinerydirective is fulfi lled

If the EN standards are fulfil led, it is estimated that themachinery directive is fulf illed

    What is the EN 13000?

EN 13000 is the basic standard to fulfill the European

    Machinery Directive.

This standard is valid for all new cranes, which are

delivered from 01.05.2010 into the EU.

On these machines, the EN 13000 must be activated.

If the EN 13000 is active, other shut off limits and

other conditions for possible bypasses apply.

The standard must be checked every 5 years

    Points from EN 13000

    (1) scope

EN13000 does not cover hazards related to the lifting of

    persons.

Mobile cranes covered by this European standard are

designed for a limited number of stress cycles and

    particular properties of motions.

The following icon is shown blinking in the

    LICCON monitor:

    Shut off: Sensor defective

In the horn icon of the crane operating screen is shown that a system error (E!) is

present. The error is shown in the error stack by pressing the function key F8.

    What software variations are available?

Presently 3 software versions are sent out, which have

    been valid since 01.05.2010:

    EN13000 - activated, with 75% charts - with CE-conformity; for

members of the European Committee for Standardization.

EN13000 - deactivated, with 85% charts; for deliveries outside the

Example: 100 tons mobile crane lift 10 tons load

The maximum force at outr igger base is 31 tons = 31 x 9.8 =

    303.8 KN = 303800 N

Required support surface = support force / permissible

    ground pressure

    =303800/20 = 15190 cm2 = 123.2cm x 123.2 cm

    Dimensions of support float is 50cm x 50cm = 2500 cm2

A plate of minimum 124 x 124 cm needs to put under the

    outrigger base.

It means the surface need to extend 6 times by area in

    order to achieve the requirement.
