Kabauces F rom humble beginnings in Hampshire, England in 2001, IsoTek has grown into a truly international company – the world’s leading manufacturer of clean- power products for audio and AV systems, no less. While at its core it remains fundamentally British, thanks to founder Keith Martin and a host of British talent working tirelessly for the brand, IsoTek has now added offices in Switzerland to its traditional Hampshire base, manufactures its products in Europe and works with distributors in more than 50 countries around the world. IsoTek has long been famed for its live product demonstrations at shows and seminars around the world, allowing those present to witness first hand the sonic gains that its products deliver. The concept is simple: take a high- quality hi-fi system and begin by letting people hear what it sounds like with the electronics plugged straight into the mains via ordinary ‘freebie’ IEC cables. Then play the same music with IsoTek’s clean-power products attached, starting at entry level then taking steps up the range to show the improvement each time. The results are always unequivocal, the differences obvious. Earlier this year, two such events were held in the UK and Germany: the company’s 15th annual appearance at Sound & Vision – The Bristol Show, and a visit to Berlin for High End On Tour. The feedback following these live demonstrations is always insightful, as many experience ‘The IsoTek Effect’ for the first time. At these two events, however, IsoTek went one step further, handing out comment cards to keep a record of impressions formed immediately after each demo. As you can see, results were unequivocal… IsoTek knows that the best way to show the extraordinary effect of its products is to give people the opportunity to hear it, which is why the company will continue to conduct live demonstrations at shows around the world. IsoTek is the world’s leading manufacturer of specialised clean-power products for audio and AV systems, with a proud history of innovation dating back to the company’s formation in 2001. IsoTek products have consistently raised the bar, their unique technologies earning numerous awards from prestigious audio publications around the globe. In 2015 the plaudits keep coming...The British audio press continues to lavish praise upon IsoTek’s latest product generation. HifiPig, the website and free magazine for audio addicts, is the latest to discover the benefits of the popular, mid-level EVO3 Aquarius power conditioner, saying: “It allows system components to work to their full potential… better soundstaging, a quieter background and more ease, control and strength to the overall sound.”

Next model up from the Aquarius, the EVO3 Sigmas is described by Hi-Fi Choice as “a tremendously effective and very well implemented mains treatment system”. The review concludes: “If you are looking for a wholesale boost to your system, you’ve just found it.”

IsoTek’s most recent major launch, the ingenious Mosaic Genesis, received its first UK review in Hi-Fi+. “The perfect game-raiser for high-performance audio systems,” the magazine enthuses. “A one-stop shop of conditioner and regenerator that, once heard in action, is hard to live without.” Hi-Fi Choice also rates the product highly, judging it to deliver “a resounding improvement”.

For audio components with high current demands, IsoTek’s EVO3 Titan is a brilliantly effective solution. Hi-Fi World magazine agrees: “It is nothing short of

superb and once you have heard its effect upon a system I am positive that you will be in the market for one as well.”

Hi-fi publications from outside the UK are no less enthusiastic about IsoTek’s latest products. In Hong Kong, HiFi Review declares the EVO3 Mosaic Genesis to be “a full sine wave generation system

with amazing warmth, detail and vanishingly low levels of Total Harmonic Distortion”

whilst bestowing a Product of the

Germany, Fidelity

magazine writes of the

EVO3 Aquarius: “It enhances the

upgrade… an immaculate design that can be relied upon. Pure genius!”

Also in Germany, the EVO3 Aquarius has won a prestigious Plus X Best Product 2015/2016 Award. These are presented across a wide range of product types, from home appliances to sports equipment; the EVO3 Aquarius received its award in the Home Entertainment Audio category. “Users with high-end hi-fi systems will appreciate the increase in quality,” says the judging panel.

Small yet mighty: IsoTek’s Genesis OneSince its launch in 2012,

IsoTek’s Genesis mains sine wave generator has made a huge splash in the world of high-end audio. This pioneering clean-power component doesn’t just condition the mains; it builds an entirely new, fully optimised mains sine wave from scratch.

Now, IsoTek has developed a new product called Genesis One, based on the same technology but incorporating a Class D generation engine in place of Class AB. This has enabled the creation of a more compact device, measuring just 120x75x470mm (HxWxD) and designed to power a single audio component, with the ability to combine multiple units to suit any system configuration.

The Genesis One uses a

linear power supply rather the common switched-mode type, reducing differential-mode distortion as the unit draws power from the mains. A display on the front panel shows the incoming voltage, total harmonic distortion and frequency of the mains, plus the output voltage, THD and power consumption of the connected audio component.

IsoTek unveiled the Genesis One in May, at the High End 2015 show in Munich. It is scheduled to go on sale in November, with a free IsoTek EVO3 Premier power cable included. Up to six Genesis Ones may be placed side by side on a standard-width equipment shelf, connected together via a supplied link so that only one mains input cable is required.

The Enhancer enhancedIsoTek has released a

new, improved version of its popular Full System Enhancer CD. Like the original, the new High Resolution Full System Enhancer is an intensive workout for your hi-fi or AV system, containing a variety of test tones calibrated to precise mathematical algorithms to thoroughly burn-in and demagnetise audio equipment.

This latest version adds two new tracks: one designed to condition phono stages via an inverse RIAA filter,

the other to exercise the full dynamic range of 24-bit high-resolution music servers. Available now, it is every bit as essential as its predecessor, which Hi-Fi News described as a “must buy”.

as the official distributor of its award-winning clean-power products in Japan. The agreement was signed at the end of February 2015, when Keith Martin, IsoTek’s founder and managing director, travelled to Gifu to meet Naspec’s Koji san and Kazuaki san.

“Respect and integrity are things we hold dear at IsoTek, and such concepts are deeply entrenched in Japanese culture,” said Keith, recalling the trip.

“Our meeting with Koji san and Kazuaki san was intense and productive – we knew instantly that they were the perfect partners for us. We look forward to working with Naspec to help Japan’s many discerning music fans obtain even greater pleasure from their audio systems, thanks to IsoTek’s unique clean-power technologies.”

Additional PRS Component Shelves may be placed on top on the regular shelves to further enhance performance – these are made from high-density fibreboard and combine a proprietary cork/rubber/leather compound, a quasi-liquid polymer, decoupled aluminium cones and brass feet at the support points, dramatically reducing resonance without adding any sonic signature of their own.

In this series of articles for PULSE, we ask a prominent audio journalist to describe his experience with power and the importance of a clean mains supply. This issue, writer and editor David Price chronicles his Adventures in Power.

Back when any normal teenage boy would be robbing phone boxes, stealing mopeds

or throwing stones at defenceless animals, I was plotting my stairway to hi-fi heaven, busy assembling a system on a super-tight budget. My Rush records and Pink Floyd pressings were played on a humble Garrard SP25 turntable, inherited from a great uncle. Partnering this was a bottom-of-the-range Trio amplifier bought from the Comet sale, and a pair of Videoton Minimax loudspeakers that I charmed my father into buying on a trip to the Harrogate Hi-Fi Show. These components comprised my very own junior super-fi system, and I loved it.

That’s not to say it was perfect – far from it. So I set out to upgrade it whilst splashing the least amount of cash. An entire month’s pocket money was duly lavished on six metres of QED 79-strand speaker cable. It was a major sacrifice not being able to buy Mars bars and cans of Coke for weeks, but the system was transformed!

Next, I wondered what else I could do? The pins on the mains plugs on my turntable and amp had blackened with age – having previously been used on various other appliances for decades. So it was out down to the shed to get the T-Cut, normally used to polish the family’s Triumph 2000. I shone them up like jewellery, and after a wipe down with isopropyl alcohol bought to clean cassette deck heads, I switched my hi-fi on and was amazed. Everything sounded sweeter, smoother and more detailed. How could this be?

This convinced me of the importance of good cables and clean connectors, and then I began to focus on

mains power itself. By 1983 I had upgraded to my first ‘real hi-fi’ (Rega Planar 3, NAD 3020 and KEF Codas) and was perplexed by why it sounded better at some times than others. For example, in the middle of the afternoon it could be quite coarse and mechanical, but by late evening it was lovely. I duly made a pilgrimage to my hi-fi guru-in-residence, Nigel Pearson of Westwood and Mason in Oxford, who confirmed that yes, the noise levels in the AC mains did change from one hour to the next.

Stunned by this revelation, I bought a cheap mains filter from Maplin, expecting another profound improvement. It did change the sound – smoothing it a little – but also seemed to suck the very life and soul out of the music. I was disappointed and confused, and duly elected to spend my time on other more sensible

pursuits like motorbikes, indie music and girls, just as one should when you’re eighteen. ‘Damn’, I thought, ‘if I can’t upgrade my hi-fi any more, I’ll just have to listen to it!’

Ten years later – after much two-star petrol had passed through the twin Keihin carburettors of my Honda Superdream 250 – I found myself in London working for Hi-Fi World magazine. Suddenly I had access to some amazing equipment – the hi-fi bug had bitten once again. I began experimenting with aftermarket mains cables, and was surprised by the difference they made.

Much to the chagrin of my readers, I said so in print. It caused a veritable

firestorm of opprobrium, and many wrote in questioning my sanity (a valid question admittedly, albeit off-topic) and demanding that I be dismissed. In the mid-1990s, claiming that the mains could affect your system’s sound was tantamount to hi-fi heresy, or so it seemed.

Times change, and most people now accept that dirty power sullies the sound. By the beginning of the new millennium I was convinced of this, but struggled with the mains conditioners I was asked to review. Like that old Maplin device, they would often alter things but never improve them. Then I began to notice IsoTek, and attended many of their demonstrations at hi-fi shows. On every occasion their power cleaning products improved things, sometimes quite profoundly.

I am now using IsoTek’s new EVO3 Mosaic Genesis in my reference system – an ingenious hybrid

device delivering the ideal combination of

mains sine wave generation for

front-end components and high-current conditioning for power

amps – and am struck by the step-change forward. These days I live in rural Wiltshire, far from the buzz of London, so it’s all the more surprising that my mains supply needs disinfecting. Thanks to the Mosaic Genesis, my system performs with greater focus and depth, with darker silences, wider spaces between the notes, less muddle in the midband, and a wider palette of tonal colour.

My hi-fi has performed extremely well for the past decade or so – better than almost any others I have heard – but now that I’ve finally solved my mains problem, it has never been better. I have come a long way from that first teenage system then, but still haven’t quite left Pink Floyd behind…

The full GamuTGamuT, the acclaimed Danish audio manufacturer, is to supply

IsoTek’s class-leading EVO3 Premier power cables with all its source components and amps, replacing the standard ‘off-the-shelf’ power leads usually bundled with audio equipment.

According to GamuT’s director Ole Rytz Jørgensen, “The freebie ‘kettle leads’ supplied with most audio components significantly hamper their performance because they are not constructed to a level of quality but down to a price. By supplying IsoTek’s specialised EVO Premier power cable instead, we enable our customers to hear the full potential of our products from the moment they first plug them in, thus delivering even greater value for money.”

IsoTek’s managing director Keith Martin added, “At last, a serious audio company has recognised that supplying a cable with an associated cost of around £1 with a component costing thousands of pounds makes no sense, seriously restricting performance and undermining the very essence of high-performance audio.”

I was frankly dazzled by the calm that descended upon my reference system’s sound

IsoTek’s founder Keith Martin shows off the Genesis One at High End 2015 in Munich

HelloSince 2001, IsoTek has grown from a small start-up in Hampshire, born

from an idea drafted on a kitchen table, to the world’s leading specialist in clean-power tech for audio and AV systems, with distribution in more than 50 countries. It hasn’t been easy to get to this point, but it’s certainly been quite a ride!

From the start, our philosophy was to ‘build something better’. We knew that the poor quality of mains electricity had a detrimental affect of hi-fi system performance, and that this problem was only going to get worse over time. We also knew that the solutions already on the market were inadequate, and could be vastly improved upon.

Our unique technologies have led to numerous endorsements from customers, critics and respected audio brands. For example, acclaimed Danish manufacturer GamuT has decided to supply our EVO3 Premier power cable with all its electronics (see News, p2), while Swedish brand Primare has

specified our clean-power systems to aid with product testing and development.

Monitor Audio liked our Full System Enhancer CD so much we were asked to develop an algorithm to enhance speaker performance and reduce run-in time. TEAC Esoteric was equally impressed, commissioning us to create a version of the CD to be bundled with the company’s audio components. Other manufacturers that use and recommend IsoTek products include Arcam, Denon, Genesis Advanced Technologies, Marantz, Nordost, Onkyo, Pioneer, PMC and Roksan – an illustrious list, I’m sure you’ll agree!

As ever, this edition of PULSE aims to give you an insight into the latest goings on in the world of IsoTek – I hope you enjoy it. Until next time… Think power. Think IsoTek!

From humble beginnings in Hampshire, England in 2001, IsoTek has grown

into a truly international company – the world’s leading manufacturer of clean-power products for audio and AV systems, no less.

The concept is simple: take a high-quality hi-fi system and begin by letting people hear what it sounds like with the electronics plugged straight into the mains via ordinary ‘freebie’ IEC cables. Then play the same music with IsoTek’s clean-power products attached, starting at entry level then taking steps up the range to show the improvement each time. The results are always unequivocal,

the differences obvious.Earlier this year, two such events

were held in the UK and Germany: the company’s 15th annual appearance at Sound & Vision – The Bristol Show, and a visit to Berlin for High End On Tour. The feedback following these live demonstrations is always insightful, as many experience ‘The IsoTek Effect’ for the first time. At these two events, however, IsoTek went one step further, handing out comment cards to keep a record of impressions formed immediately after each demo. As you can see, results were unequivocal…

IsoTek knows that the best way to show the extraordinary effect of its products is to give people the opportunity to hear it, which is why the company will continue to conduct live demonstrations at shows around the world. If you can’t get to one of these, why not arrange a demonstration at your nearest IsoTek dealer? Discover ‘The IsoTek Effect’ and unleash your system’s full potential – you’ll be glad you did!
