He then went on to practice with Jackson Parton and Norton Rose, before founding the Skinitis Maritime Law firm in May 2006. He has been invited to be guest lecturer in Shipping Law at the Business College of Athens. Soto remains largely focused on dry shipping. His main area of expertise is with disputes relating to charterparties, bills of lading, ship management agreements, ship sales & purchase contracts, bunker contamination, cargo claims, bad stowage, and other fields that relate to the dry shipping market. His extensive legal knowledge is complemented by a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of shipping gained whilst serving in the Greek merchant market. law for nearly twenty (20) years, and is experienced in all facets of civil and criminal maritime matters, casualty and pollution response, Marpol, Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (“OPA ‘90”), Clean Water Act (“CWA”), as well as environmental matters, insurance coverage, defense, and handling of primary, excess, and reinsurance claims. Mr. Chalos has been counsel of record in over seven hundred (700) civil and criminal maritime matters, in over twenty (20) different U.S. trial courts, Appellate Courts and arbitration tribunals. Additionally, Mr. Chalos has a known specialty and expertise in OPA ‘90, Marpol and other pollution related matters, including the defense of criminal allegations and complex third-party litigation. Mr. Chalos has defended numerous individuals and organizational defendants and has successfully recovered over $100 million from the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund various clients and/or their insurers. Mr. Chalos has authored numerous articles involving matters of international litigation and arbitration, and is regularly called upon as a speaker at conferences throughout the world. He is a Proctor in Admiralty, which is the highest distinction and honor bestowed upon U.S. maritime lawyers. Dr. Sonia Ajini Sonia joined L.G. Zambartas LLC in February 2010. In 2003 she graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Matej Bel in Slovakia where she obtained her Master’s degree in Law following which she has re-located to Cyprus. Sonia was working for one of the biggest Cypriot shipowning and shipmanagement company and a very reputable international maritime consultancy company. She gained a vast experience in commercial, corporate, maritime and admiralty laws, ship finance, sale and purchase of ships including newbuildings.

In 2005 she also obtained academic title doctor of law with her major subject being International Law. She also passed the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers exams in 2005.She obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Law and LLM in maritime law at the London Metropolitan University. She predominantly deals with commercial, contract, companies laws, maritime claims, maritime and admiralty law, alternative dispute resolution in Cyprus as well as intellectual property law. Sonia is one of the founding members of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association Cyprus (WISTA Cyprus) www.wista.net; in 2011 she became a Vice-President and Director of WISTA Cyprus (in December 2014 she retired from the above positions). In 2012 she also became a Secretary General of the Cyprus Arbitration and Mediation Centre www.cyprusarbitration.com.cy. Alberto Batini Alberto Batini joined as a solicitor the London Law Firm Sinclair Roche & Temperley, London (now Stephenson Harwood) in 1991 and in 1993 moved to Standard Steamship Owners P&I Club, Charles Taylor & Co., London. He qualified as an Italian lawyer at the end of 1993 and obtained a PHD in Italy in 1995 in Shipping Law. Alberto is presently a Partner with the Italian law firm BTA (Batini Traverso & Associati). The firm is specialized in Marine Insurance Law, Marine Litigation and ship/yacht building and finance with offices in Milan, Genoa, Livorno, Ravenna and since last year a London office

He is a Member of the Italian Association of Maritime Law (IAMA) and active member of the Italian Working Group for Maritime Liens and Mortgages and Arrest of Ships at the CMI Centenary Conference held in Antwerp in June 1997 and at the CMI Plenary Session Conference held in Singapore in 2000 and in Vancouver in 2004. Alberto is a Member of CLM (Claims and Litigation Management Alliance), the largest US claims’ managers network. He is also a member of the United States Transport Law Association (TLA).
