Background

The “Equitarian Initiative”, proposed by The American Association of

Equine Practitioners and The AAEP Foundation, is aimed to encourage the

actions of people interested in helping equines in need.

It has been an effective way to establish a network to facilitate the interplay

of professionals, technicians, students, education workers, donors and

owners in the world of working equines, to develop programs of service to

communities.

Page 4: 2nd Equitarian Workshop Logistics
Page 5: 2nd Equitarian Workshop Logistics

The 1st Equitarian Workshop was organized by AAEP, AAEP Foundation

and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National Autonomous

University of Mexico, in partnership with The Donkey Sanctuary, The World

Horse Welfare and The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association,

with the support of The Mexican Association of Equine Practitioners and

The Mexican Association of Equine Veterinary Dentists.

It was successfully held in October 2010, offering space in which ideas,

knowledge and experiences were shared among individuals and

institutions interested in both improving equine welfare and developing

strategies for future work.

Description

In 2011, CEIEGT-FMVZ-UNAM will host the 2nd Equitarian Workshop.

Professionals, technicians and students interested in helping equines will

participate to gain experience to either start new programs or reinforce

those already established.

The meeting will offer the participants the opportunity of widening their

knowledge in social, cultural and economic aspects, as well as means of

programs delivery in the field, necessary to help communities depending

on working equines.

Page 9: 2nd Equitarian Workshop Logistics

This year, a new station for hands-on education and building community

partnerships will be included to reinforce and advance the knowledge of

participants in these areas. Essential to achieve long-lasting advances.

Page 10: 2nd Equitarian Workshop Logistics

Communities in tropical, sub-tropical, humid temperate and semi-arid

environments will be visited, allowing the participants to face an

interesting variety of conditions affecting the welfare of equines.
