There were 22 motor vehicle stops, 15 accidental/prank 911 calls, two reports of barking/lost/loose dogs, five reports of loose/dead livestock and three calls requesting a VIN inspection.

Monday, Aug. 30943 – A fire alarm was com-

ing from the basement stairway. A female was called who stated her husband should be home and requested to hold off dispatch-ing anyone until she calls back. At 0949, the female called back and stated there isn’t any smoke at the house. Her husband can’t find anything that is causing it. The female again requested no response.

0952 – A reporting party is missing a knife that he believes is out where he was changing a tire yesterday. A description of the knife was provided.

1216 – A deputy requested a card be started for a suspi-cious vehicle parked at the Dam overlook.

1220 – A male advised he likes to go around and take photos at former military bases as a hobby. He said he will be in the area of St. Marie taking photos of the old buildings. The male was ad-vised not to go on the MARCO property and to stay away from personal residences.

1501 – A reporting party called about a manhole cover sticking up at the corner by Holiday Stationstore. An officer was able to place the cover back in place.

1555 – A deputy advised he served a warrant on an inmate.

1629 – A female reported that her mother lost her wallet about a week ago. They were told that a man picked it up and tried to re-turn it to them at their old address. It was determined the wallet was turned in at the Sheriff’s Office.

1719 – A male reported that his parents were on their way to Duck Lake and ran into a table, blowing their transmission. He doesn’t know where it happened but they are in the process of call-ing a wrecker. It was determined the subject hit a concrete table and the bench is broken.

1750 – A reporting party called in stating her neighbor has left the dog outside for three days with no shade. She also doesn’t believe it has been provided food while outside. An officer spoke to the dog owner and stated food and water must be left out for the dog.

2124 – An officer advised he’d be out at Albertsons for a fight.

Tuesday, Aug. 40728 – A male reported a

white tail buck hung up in the barb wire fence just below Molly Stevens Hill on Highway 117. He said the buck appears to be just a little too short to clear the fence and can’t get over it. Fish and Game was notified.

1451 – A female advised they had some bicyclists in Pay and Save between noon and 1:30 to-day, and one left their wallet. She advised there were definitely two but possibly three traveling in a group but didn’t know what they were wearing or what the bikes looked like. At 1559, the female called back to say the owner of the wallet just called and he is in Hinsdale. She is going to run the wallet out to him.

1507 – A male reported that someone made an illegal charge of $199 on his credit card on July 17. Someone had called him who identified themselves with Dish Network. The male later called Dish Network and was notified the previous call was a scam and also notified his credit card company.

1933 – A male said he just wanted to get it on record that a female still won’t let him talk to his kids. He said this is against the parenting plan. He doesn’t want to talk to an officer, he just wanted to get it on record for his attorney.

2009 – A security company advised they’re receiving a panic alarm from a local business. At 2016, a female called in from the business and stated an of-ficer is with her now. The officer detained a female and logged a PBT of .181 for the female.

2024 – A male reported that another male is out at Bone Trail and came upon a couple of kay-aks. One subject has a bummed up shoulder and a banged up kayak. The male would like to talk with a deputy to see if maybe Search and Rescue could assist in transporting them to town.

2108 – A female reported that her daughter accidentally locked an infant in a vehicle and they can’t get the baby out. She was advised that a deputy was en-route but they may have to break a window. At 2121, the female called back to advise her neighbor was able to get into the vehicle.

2200 – A female reported she hit a deer about 5 miles west of Nashua. She is not injured but her vehicle is not driveable.

Wednesday, Aug. 50042 – An officer requested a

record be started for a liquor law violation.

0124 – A reporting party called to state they hit a deer on Flowing Wells Road, near Rock Creek, about 20 miles from Fort Peck. There are no injuries but the truck is not drivable. Both the truck and the deer are in the middle of the road so the emer-gency flashers are on. McCone County was also notified.

0149 – A violations card was started per an officer’s request.

0324 – A male reporting party stated he was stuck on Highway 13 close to where it joined with another road just outside of

Wolf Point. He is out of gas and wanted to call MHP to see if they could bring him some gasoline. Dispatch advised to contact Roo-sevelt county as they are more familiar with the area.

1100 – A deputy advised there appears to be an abandoned vehicle on the south side of the highway. It isn’t blocking the ap-proach but is blocking some of it. At 1336, a male called in wanting to know what can be done with the vehicle as it has been sitting there for five days now, and stated he was about to take a tractor to move the vehicle himself. A wrecker was notified to get the vehicle out of the location.

1437 – A female advised her wallet went missing from her vehicle the last couple of months. A description of the wallet was provided as well as the contents. She stated she canceled the credit cards but needed to have a police report for the loss.

1638 – A male reported that a female still won’t let him talk to his kids. He wants to get it on record and talk with a deputy.

Thursday, Aug. 60646 – A reporting party

called and stated there were con-struction traffic cones blocking off the road but there is no sign telling people why. An officer was sent out to assess the situa-tion. It was determined concrete was being poured at the nearby business.

0841 – A male reported there is a tree blocking the visibility of the stop sign at an intersection. City of Glasgow and city office were contacted.

0939 – A male advised some-time in the last 30 minutes a Chevy Impala came and parked in the boss’ parking spot. The front end is smashed in and the vehicle doesn’t have any plates on it.

1026 – A deputy advised a mo-torhome is stuck in the underpass and may need a couple of vehi-cles to get them out. At 1029, the deputy advised the motorhome was able to squeeze through and traffic is flowing again.

1036 – A female said someone just lost a bunch of stuff out of their vehicle on the side street in front of Plains Plaza as you are headed to Reynolds. At 1123, the debris had been picked up by the owner and secured in the vehicle.

1208 – A male called in stat-ing he had turned in a theft report yesterday to an officer and ad-vised the suspect is in the store at this time.

1547 – A male called in ad-vising he has a hay field on fire. He didn’t know how big it is as his hired hand called him and he isn’t there yet. Richland Fire was notified. At 1645, another male called in stating the fire is out. The farmer is there with a water truck and is going to watch it.

1601 – A female advised they

are behind a semi that is swerv-ing all over the road heading eastbound between Nashua and Frazer. At 1624, a deputy advised she patrolled to the county line and was unable to locate the vehicle.

2309 – A reporting party called and said he was at Flat Lake and a storm just blew up their tent. They grabbed their phones and ran for the car. They stated the weather was very vio-lent. At 2318, a deputy advised he found the couple and gave them some bottles of water. The deputy also advised he had checked the area and found one other tenter, they were fine, and couldn’t see any further problems.

Friday, Aug. 70037 – RCSO called and

reported a downed power line that was sparking. Norval was notified as well as Fire.

1159 – A male called in stating his ex-wife lost her wallet last night at either the Stockman’s Bar or the Oasis. They have spoken to both bars and neither place had a wallet turned in. A description of the wallet and its contents was provided. The female is on her way back to Great Falls at this time. The wallet was found at the Star Lodge and the male went and picked it up to mail to the female.

1316 – A reporting party wants to know what can be done about a truck that is blocking his driveway. He states it has been there about a day. It was deter-mined the owner of the vehicle was waiting for a friend to get off work so they can go and tow the vehicle.

1528 – A 911 hang-up call called back and the female stated a motor home went down to the underpass and she thought he would need help getting out. However there is someone there already so she hung up. An of-ficer later advised he just drove by the underpass and there is no obstruction there now.

1650 – Suspicious activity was reported. A deputy advised he has one male subject detained in the back seat of his patrol vehicle. He requested another deputy to his location. The deputy advised this will be an investigation for boating under the influence.

1720 – A female called in a fire stating it is just past her house on Frazer Road. The fire is below the hill on the left side of the road, just past her place. She didn’t know how big the fire is but sent her son to put it out. It was determined the fire was small and contained to a small area.

1836 – A female called in ad-vising there is a dog in a vehicle that is not running. One window is cracked a little but the caller feels it is too hot to be leaving the dog in the vehicle.

Per Montana Rural Water Assoc. guidelines the following information is disclosed:The NVCW/S BOARD has announced numerous times in public meetings 2 Board Director

vacancies. The posted agendas and minutes in the Courthouse and St. Marie Townhall have mentioned same. In the St. Marie Condo newsletter mailed out with all condo bills, DeAnn Ketchum has made mention of 2 Water/Sewer Board vacancies. BUZZ articles have stated previous 2 Board Director vacancies. I personally have talked to many qualified residents (5) of St. Marie asking if they would entertain the notion of serving on the NVCW/S Board and 2 came on the Board to serve and didn’t register for re-election.

And per Montana Code Annotated 2019 - Part 22 County Water and/or Sewer Districts 7-13-2262 that reads as follows:

VACANCIES on Board of Directors- Appointment....”Any vacancy in the Board of Direc-tors, whether the vacant office is elective or appointive, MUST BE filled by majority vote of the remaining Directors.” It goes on to say “If there are NO DIRECTORS remaining on the Board and no nominees for any Director position to be elected, the COUNTY COMMISSIONERS may appoint the number of Directors specified in 7-13-2232.

Not only were there 3 remaining Directors on the NVCW/S District Board as required, but also a quorum that was not needed.

Only 2 qualified individuals stepped forward to serve on the NVCW/S District Board. Hugh Frankson and Frank Piocos and were subsequently appointed. Mr. Frankson had served on the Board many times and had working knowledge of the operation already. Additionally Mr. Frankson managed 150 or more people for Lockheed in Egypt and Saudi Arabia (17 years) and possesses financial and managerial experience. Mr. Piocos is a practicing Attorney for Roosevelt County and his legal knowledge was welcomed.

If anyone has higher qualifications and expresses interest in serving NVCW/S District for $55 per month pay, please let us know. When the next vacancy occurs THE BOARD will consider your appointment to our Board.

Unlike “Dependent Special Districts” or “Non Enterprise Special Districts” that deliver services funded by property taxes....NVCW/S District is a “Enterprise Special District” providing water and sewer services funded by fees paid by the service recipients or customers.

At my first encounter with Mr. Jensen, the County Attorney, he made it clear to me that he could not get involved with our operation since we do not receive tax dollars from Valley County.

We do have an outstanding loan from USDA currently and must abide by Sunshine Laws. Our current applications for DEQ and USDA Grants are independent of Valley County....they are not involved or at risk financially. If Valley County goes forward with SPONSORING NVCW/S Districts application for a CDBG Grant it is simply a formality with DEQ and Valley County has no financial risk. This may be verified by Great West Engineering and DEQ.

Montana Reports Salmonella Cases Linked to OnionsFOR THE COURIER

As of Aug. 5, state and local public health agencies in Mon-tana are investigating 52 reports of confirmed and suspected Salmonella Newport illnesses linked to onions from Thomson International, Inc.

Illnesses began as far back as June 21, and continue to be reported. Local investigations have confirmed that ill individu-als often consumed the recalled onions at restaurants.

Confirmed and suspected cases have been identified in 16 counties across Montana and in-clude 12 hospitalizations. Affect-ed counties include Beaverhead, Big Horn, Carbon, Cascade, Deer Lodge, Fergus, Flathead, Gallatin, Hill, Jefferson, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Missoula, Park, Ravalli and Yellowstone. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is reporting

396 cases in 34 states, with a total of 59 hospitalizations and no deaths.

The CDC, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and state and local public health officials in Montana are advising consumers, retailers, and restau-rants not to eat, sell, or serve on-ions from Thomson International, Inc. The onions may also be listed under the following brand names: Thomson Premium, TLC Thom-son International, Tender Loving Care, El Competitor, Hartley’s Best, Onions 52, Majestic, Impe-rial Fresh, Kroger, Utah Onions, and Food Lion. This investigation is ongoing, and more brands may be added.

“If you cannot tell where your onions are from, throw them away,” said Rachel Hin-nenkamp of the Department of Public Health and Human Ser-vices (DPHHS) Communicable Disease Epidemiology Section.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection vary for each person, but often include a sudden onset of diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Some people may experience de-hydration, which can be severe. Most people with a Salmonella infection start feeling sick six hours to six days after eating or drinking something that contains the bacteria, and typically recover without needing treatment within four to seven days.

Advice to Consumers:Check your refrigerator and

kitchen at home for recalled onions or foods made with them. This could include tacos, sand-wiches, salads, wraps, salsas, dips, etc.

If you used onions to make a food, but don’t know where the onions are from, throw the food away. Do not eat it, even if no one has gotten sick.

Wash and sanitize any surfac-

es that may have come in contact with onions or their packaging, such as countertops, refrigerator shelves and drawers, knives, and cutting boards.

When you eat out or shop for food, make sure that the onions are not distributed by Thomson International, Inc.

If you are experiencing symp-toms of a Salmonella infection, talk to your healthcare provider. Write down what you ate in the week before you got sick. If you are tested and have Salmonella, your local health department will call you for an interview to ask you about foods you ate before you got sick.

Officials at the Montana Department of Justice has an-nounced that Montanans, espe-cially senior citizens, should be aware of a new tactic being used in the old lottery scam.

The new twist works like this: A scammer calls you, claiming to be from the “Montana State Gam-ing Commission.” The scammer says if you pay $600, you’ll have a chance to win $1 million.

“Legitimate lotteries never require people to send money to claim a prize or to have a chance at winning,” Attorney General Tim Fox said. “Because older persons are especially vulner-able due to physical and mental decline, social isolation, and their tendency to trust others, the most effective thing we can do to combat this scam is public education. Remind your parents, grandparents, and elderly friends about the importance of staying vigilant for lottery scams and other rip-offs that can happen if they engage with these callers,” Fox added.

Another red flag? The “Mon-tana State Gaming Commission” doesn’t exist. The Gambling Control Division at the Montana

Department of Justice is respon-sible for state gaming regulation. Gambling Control Division Ad-ministrator Angela Nunn said, “Real lotteries never contact the winner, or other players, be-cause they don’t know who these people are. So, keep in mind two things: If you receive a call claiming to be from the Montana State Gaming Commission, it’s a scam; if you’re asked to send money in relation to lotteries, it’s a scam.”

Nunn also advised Montanans questioning the validity of a con-tact from the Gambling Control Division to call her office at 406-444-1971 or email gcd@mt.gov to confirm.

2127 – A reporting party called to say that, again, his ex would not allow him to speak to his children. He stated he even bought them a new cell phone and she is still refusing to let him talk to them. He just wants the situation on record.

2307 – An officer requested information on a suspect re-garding conditions and curfew. Another officer advised a PBT of .081.

2324 – An officer advised he had a gentleman “peeing in public.”

Saturday, Aug. 81026 – A deputy served a war-

rant to one adult female.1321 – A reporting party called

in stating there is a gator (black and white) racing back and forth across the highway into oncoming traffic, causing people to swerve to avoid hitting them. A descrip-tion of the driver was provided. The deputy located the vehicle westbound on US Highway 2 and after a 20 minute deprivation, logged a PBT of 0.263.

1547 - A male reported he has a hay fire. Opheim Fire and Richland Fire was notified.

2032 – A male reported that a female is driving her new jeep, while drinking a beer, and he believes she is intoxicated.

Sunday, Aug. 90130 – An officer advised

he saw the subject walking and picked him up on a bench warrant that has been issued.

1229 – A reporting party called

in about a suspicious vehicle and person. When asked strange it what way, the caller stated it didn’t seem like it was alcohol, as he looked into the vehicle and didn’t see containers but thought it might be drug related. The caller stated they headed east and turned onto the gravel area next to Holiday. At 1242, the officer advised he was unable to locate the vehicle.

1455 – A reporting party called in about a large motor home attempting to go under the underpass and may need as-sistance.

1549 – A reporting party called about a restraining order she has against another individual in Roosevelt County. She states she didn’t know the other indi-vidual was at the lake but they ended up in the same area. The other party left the area but the re-porting party wanted to speak to an officer about this and see what she needed to do to alert someone that there was a violation. At 1608, a deputy advised he spoke with the reporting party and she basically wanted the information on record that the other party was at the Dredge and the reporting party had no idea she was there. There was some screaming and hollering at each other then the other party left.

1804 – A warrant out of Rich-land County Sheriff Dept. was served.

2054 – A female reported there are three or four dirt bikes that have been going back and forth on the road for over an hour. A deputy patrolled out and was unable to locate the bikes.

2325 – A disabled motor vehicle was reported. It was determined they were just fixing the radio.
