Inspired by the past
for a timeless future.
This is Hampton.
This is Hartsman.
4 5
In addition, he was also President of the Swedish Society and a regular contributor to the local Swedish paper, Norden. The edition printed on 19th May 1917 includes this text, which shows just how admired he was:
“People who know Mr. Hartsman wonders how a silent and retiring man as he is should possess so much energy and ambition. He is a man of few words, and the secret of his success, we believe, lies in his upright character and sound judgment. His unassuming and quiet manners inspire confidence. He is placed in positions of honour and trust. He is popular without asking for popularity; his personality wins the confidence of all who know him.”
The name Hartsman is a nod to the original owner of the building, Carl Hartsman, who ran a newsagency from here in the 1920s and was well known for his outstanding contributions to the Bayside community.
After arriving to Australia from Sweden, he became a highly respected public figure who gave of himself tirelessly to the people of Hampton. As well as being an original member of the Sandringham Council and a founder of Hampton State School, he was a Vice President of Sandringham Cricket Club and an office bearer of Hampton Life Saving Club.

Hartsman has been inspired by the rich heritage and refined character of Hampton to deliver an address of prestige.
With dual access to the main shopping strip of Hampton Street and a quiet residential road, Hartsman is perfectly placed to enjoy the convenience of this established beachside community.
A highly experienced and visionary team has been assembled across architecture, interior design and landscape architecture to create a home of unique style. Outside, the building retains elements of the heritage façade of the oldest double-storey building on Hampton Street. Inside, as a nod to Carl Harts-man, the 15 one, two and three-bedroom residences feature an elegant Scandinavian style blended with contemporary bayside luxury.
With views of Port Phillip Bay from the upper floors, as well as from the meticulously landscaped rooftop garden terrace, Hartsman offers a home of rare style, authentic local character and timeless appeal.
