This year will be no exception, with
a number of local acts appearing
for the first time. Encouragingly,
we have acts from three other states
coming to Adelaide especially
to make their Cab Fringe debut.
Perhaps they’ve heard that Adelaide
audiences are keen to discover fresh
talent? Perhaps they’ve heard about
our cool boutique venues? Or maybe
they just come for the fun of it?
In our 10th anniversary year, we’re
inviting you to come to our party, to
share in the fun with us. There really
is something for everyone at Cabaret
Fringe… so put on your sparkly
dress, brush off that fancy suit and
let’s party! It’s Cabaret Fringe time!
Eugene Suleau
Cabaret Fringe Festival Co-Director
WELCOME TO OUR PARTY!
In 2003, Torsten Meyer curated the
first ever Cabaret Fringe Festival,
which took place in the famed Weimar
Room on Hindley Street. Twenty-six
events made up the programme, which
included, amongst others, performances
from Berlin Cabaret and a Bette Midler
tribute.
Fast-forward to 2015 and what will be
the 10th Cabaret Fringe Festival overall.
There’s no Bette Midler… but we still
have Berlin Cabaret! Just goes to show,
the more things change, the more they
stay the same.
The Cabaret Fringe has seen hundreds
of artists perform thousands of shows to
tens of thousands of willing Adelaide
cabaret lovers, in venues right across the
city. It’s been an ideal breaking ground
for local emerging cabaret talent and
many have gone on to ply their wares
around the country and overseas.
Welcome

This year marks the 10th anniversary of an independent Cabaret Fringe Festival, and lovers of cabaret in all its genres are in for a special treat: the Opening Night Gala will be hosted by the stars of the famous BerlinCabaret, Adelaide’s own underground cabaret cult sensation.
Inspired by the success of the original ‘Berlin Cabaret’ show, the first Cabaret Fringe Festival was held in 2003 at theWeimar Room on Hindley St. This year, we are payinghomage to both the creators and the venue of its birth at theCabFringe launch. So pull out your fishnets and your corset or your top hat & tails, and welcome the Opening Night Gala! Berlin Cabaret will begrudgingly invite the stars of today’s Cabaret Fringe to perform on their stage in a grand showcase… a taster… a teaser of what you will find on the Cabaret Fringe menu for 2015. It’s the perfect way to kick off your cabaret season!

6Breathe in the essence of France at “A Breath
of French Air”: a taste of France’s romance and humour in a series of songs and sketches presented by Panache Adelaide French Theatre.
In a rapid succession of entertaining sketches and thought-provoking songs, A Breath of French Air examines what it is to be French: La France, qu’est-ce que c’est? Is France the country of love, of fine cuisine, of ideas, of joie de vivre, of liberty, or is she an amalgam of all these elements?
For people who are less confident with their French, the performances are supported by surtitles in English. A ne pas manquer!

A Postmodern StripteaseA Postmodern Striptease, a one-woman cabaret show
written by Irene Nicola, asks the question ‘what is it to be a performer?’ in a world where the self is deconstructed, reinvented and marketed to suit the individual’s needs above the identity that lies beneath that constructed, polished veneer. It further examines the premise: once all masks are off, are we still performing? If not, can we accept and “own” our vulnerability with others? And can we come back from this, unscathed?
The answers to these and many more questions about the “self” lie at the heart of A Postmodern Striptease. Come and join in a light-hearted, not-taking-itself-too-seriously, sexy lecture in performance theory and psychoanalysis, with all original music, burlesque and a few more surprises!
