Impact of GST on Industry meeting on 19th.6.2017

A presentation on the facts about GST was arranged at our 3rd Floor conference on 19th 06 2017. The guest faculty was Mr. CALGOPAL SHAH who gave a detailed presentation on GST and how is it going to affect business in general. Our Director – Mr. Sunil Kishorepuria was present along with all members of sales, accounts and admin. teams. We had also invited some our leading dealers for the session. From the Director's DeskDear All

In continuation of stories I have come across some more for your consumption. Hope you will find them good to read and take a learning or two.

THE BUMBLEBEE

According to scientists, the bumblebee's body is too heavy and its wing span too small. Aerodynamically, the bumblebee cannot fly. But the bumblebee doesn't know that and it keeps flying.

When you don't know your limitations, you go out and surprise yourself. In hindsight, you wonder if you had any limitations. The only limitations a person has are those that are self-imposed. Don't let education put limitations on you.

MEANINGLESS GOALS

A farmer had a dog who used to sit by the roadside waiting for vehicles to come around. As soon as one came he would run down the road, barking and trying to overtake it. One day a neighbor asked the farmer "Do you think your dog is ever going to catch a car?" The farmer replied, "That is not what bothers me. What bothers me is what he would do if he ever caught one." Many people in life behave like that dog who is pursuing meaningless goals....Gean Gordon

BUILDING BRIDGES

Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labour and goods as needed without a hitch.

Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence.

One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox. "I'm looking for a few days work," he said.

"Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there. Could I help you?”

"Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you. Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor, in fact, it's my younger brother. Last week there was a meadow between us and he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I'll go him one better. See that pile of lumber curing by the barn? I want you to build me a fence - an 8-foot fence - so I won't need to see his place anymore. Cool him down, anyhow.”

The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails and the post-hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you."

The older brother had to go to town for supplies, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day. P4

My Dear Family Members,

The 1st quarter is over. To end the year we are left with 9 months and the most crucial quarter is starting which is July - Aug – Sep. If we can have a grip on this quarter we can be assured on a great year end as Q3 and Q4 are expected to be better quarters as compared to other quarters. Hope we all are equipped enough to ensure that this quarter starts and end with a big score so that the rest of the quarters can be sailed through without much hindrance.

But my submission is that it has not been a very encouraging quarter end which I had expected. There could be various reasons behind that some genuine others could have been avoided. But better efforts have been lacking and it may be the reason why there was a gap large enough to be have affected us in a large way. The team has come up the loss of business has been GST and there has been a gap because of it. That could have been reasons for some but may be not all. However this month of July should take care of the loss or lack of orders of last month. Accomplishment of our assigned target need to be done within assigned time. Incase we do not complete it within the time we have assigned we will have to manage the backlog in the succeeding month and this will bring additional pressure on us.

Structura / Sheet Team and Wiron Team - the sales has not been encouraging and our principals had a better figure in mind to close this month. However the slowness and loss in business last month should have a upside this month. Hope the team comes up together with a consolidated and better reach to all possible areas of business and each one member needs to ensure this month the sales pick up more that the required. Team Tiscon now needs to scale up and ensure the backlogs are taken care of and there is incremental growth with new areas covered and new customers closed. With the coming of GST a lot of ground work needs to be covered also and we need to ensure the process transition from existing to the GST system is simple and without issues. Proper information collection from customers and communicating the same to our accounts teams is a necessity so please ensure this is done without much problem.

I urge all members to ensure that the month of July fares well and the backlogs are covered without a doubt. This will bridge the gap already created and this will also demoralise anyone who attempts to take up a number larger than his capacity. Let us not let complacency and preconceived notions pull us back. Let us all pledge to get back to the task at hand with renewed vigour and energy. All the very best for the month and I am sure each one of you will come up as winners with great achievements this month.

God speed and God Bless !

The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing.

About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped.

There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge... a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work handrails and all - and the neighbour, his younger brother, was coming across, his hand outstretched.

"You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done.”

The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in the middle, taking each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox on his shoulder. "No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother.

"I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but, I have many more bridges to build.

Thinking "Out of the Box”

Many hundreds of years ago in a small Italian town, a merchant had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to the moneylender. The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the merchant's beautiful daughter so he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgo the merchant's debt if he could marry the daughter. Both the merchant and his daughter were horrified by the proposal.

The moneylender told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty bag. The girl would then have to pick one pebble from the bag. If she picked the black pebble, she would become the moneylender's wife and her father's debt would be forgiven. If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven. But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the merchant's garden. As they talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick her pebble from the bag.

What would you have done if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what would you have told her? Careful analysis would produce three possibilities:

1. The girl should refuse to take a pebble.2. The girl should show that there were two black pebbles in the bag and expose the moneylender as a cheat.3. The girl should pick a black pebble and

Relationships at work matter. Getting along with your co-workers not only makes your days more pleasant but also makes you better at your job. So what should you do if you realize you’re eating lunch alone every day or that you don’t even exchange pleasantries with your colleagues? How can you build more social connections at the office? How do you reach out to people, particularly if you’re an introvert or work remotely?

What the Experts Say

“We’re human beings and we need contact with people,” says Annie McKee, founder of the Teleos Leadership Institute and co-author of Primal Leadership. “Some need more and some less, but we all need it.” And yet, we’re increasingly shying away from forging friendships at work. “I’m amazed to find people who have worked on the same floor for years and don’t even say hi to each other,” says Susan David, a founder of the Harvard/McLean Institute of Coaching and author of the HBR article, “Emotional Agility.” This lack of connection can have a real impact on you. “There’s a growing body of research showing that loneliness is associated with mortality and lower immunity to illness,” says David. And without friendships at work, you miss out on two types of important support: structural support, which is “the ability to ask someone to cover for you when you’re in a bind,” and emotional support, which is having someone who can talk you through stress, change, or anxiety. Here’s how you can make work a less lonely place for yourself.

Stop making excuses

“For a lot of people, the idea of connecting with others creates emotional discomfort,” says David. “We worry about rejection and think back to our fear of being the last person picked for the team in PE.” Accept that this will make you uncomfortable but don’t let it stop you. “That discomfort is critical to your growth as a person,” she says. And don’t try to play the introvert card. “Often I hear people say ‘I don’t like small talk’ or ‘I just want to get down to business.’ That’s usually just a defense,” says McKee. Notice your avoidant behaviors. Do you eat lunch at your desk so you don’t have to find somewhere to sit in the lunchroom? Do you walk out of meetings staring at your phone to avoid small talk? “Catch yourself in these little behaviors and make changes,” David says. “It can be as minor as making eye contact or forcing yourself to say hello.”

Start small

Let go of the notion that you have to be friends with everyone,” says McKee. “You don’t have to be the ‘Hey, Hello’ person walking down the hall.” Instead focus on one or two people to start. David says that a leader she once counselled identified more than 40 people to invite to coffee when she was told she needed to develop closer relationships at work. But “that was too much,” David says. “Small steps make a big difference.” McKee agrees. “If you make a connection with one person, he or she is likely to talk about you in positive way. You’re

building a reputation beyond that single person,” she says. Do pick your targets with care though. Look for colleagues who you have things in common with and select people who are “more likely to talk or who others want to be around,” which can “triple or quadruple your effort,” McKee adds. Consider those outside your division or unit too; this can lead to broader support. And remember: you aren’t being political or manipulative. The intention is to build relationships that are good for you, others, and the organization.

Make the time

McKee says that people often blame their busy schedules for their inattention to work relationships, and they’re right. “The sheer weight of everything we need to get done stands in the way,” she explains. “Given a choice, people will turn to a project they need to complete, respond to an email, or check their phone rather than walking down the hall and talking to someone.” So you have to make a conscious effort to set aside time for relationship-building. She suggests looking at your calendar and blocking off half-hour or hour-long blocks to talk or have lunch or coffee with colleagues.

Ask questions

Some people worry that in a casual, one-on-one conversation with a colleague that’s unrelated to any specific business purpose, they’ll run out of things to discuss. This is where you use curiosity. “Everyone has the ability to ask a question,” says David. She suggests asking things like: What are you working on at the moment? What are you interested in? Can you tell me about your latest project? The goal here is to create what she calls “a shared psychological space.” Make it less about you and more about “creating a shared connection,” she advises. You want to be “open, curious, and compassionate.” McKee agrees that it’s okay to default to work-related topics. That’s a “perfectly legitimate” way of forging a relationship, she says.

Use the time before a meeting starts

If the very idea of going out to lunch with a single colleague makes you feel uncomfortable, start by connecting with people in larger groups—even before a meeting works well. “Go in with the intention of not just getting the work done but connecting,” McKee says. “Engage in conversations about TV shows, movies, sports games, etc. Even short interactions over time will help people get to know you personally.”

Be authentic and realistic

Any action you take needs to fit two criteria. First, it must be authentic. You should be sincerely interested in cultivating real relationships and careful to approach people in a way that suits your personality. “The minute you start faking it people are going to trust you less, not more, because they can see right through that,” says McKee. “And if you’re going into a relationship just looking out for

yourself, people will figure it out.” Second, it has to be something you can realistically manage, says David. “Don’t make a plan to meet for drinks after work if you have triplets you need to get home to.” Ask yourself: What do I feel comfortable giving and what am I willing to ask people for?

When you’re remote

If all of your interaction with your colleagues is over email and conference calls, it can be tough to get to know people. As a remote worker, pay particular attention to how you communicate. Are you getting to know people personally? Or are you sticking strictly to business? Start off calls with five minutes of small talk about what’s going on in your life and others’. Discuss the weather, a TV show, or news events. Include greetings and a line or two of small talk in your emails. And if you do get into the office, set aside time to socialize with people, even if it’s just a two-minute hallway conversation.

Principles to Remember

Do:

è Start by making small changes in your behavior, like saying hello or making eye contactè Make connections beyond your immediate team—it’s important to have relationships across the organizationè Build time into your busy schedule to build relationships

Don’t:

è Don’t feel you need to share personal details to make a connection; work-related conversation works tooè Think just because you’re an introvert, that you don’t need friendships at workè Fake it—your efforts to connect must be authentic or people will see through you

the Hindus but among many other people who've taken the up the ways of Lord. So, naturally these followers, no matter how religious they are, aren't allowed to enter the premises and have to pray from the doorstep of the Dakshin dwaar. However, on this auspicious day, the barriers of caste, religion and creed simply vanish and it is humanity that is worshipped!

New chariots, every year : Surprisingly, the chariots are constructed each year anew with new set of wood, and invariably the

height and width and every else would be an absolute replica of the past!

When Lord resists from moving : Legend has it that Lord Jagannath would be unwilling to visit his aunt's place every time, and creepily, every year, no matter how many thousands of devotees push the chariot, it would simple refuse to move a bit from its place. It's only after hours of pushing that it would finally show movement! He will need his followers and his people's requests to move.

“Next time your rank prevents you from supporting your men, you are to notify top command and I will provide a more permanent solution,” said the stranger, who was now up close and easily recognizable as General Washington.

This lesson is a fantastic one for supervisors and leaders that you are coaching to help them – help their own teams. The ultimate goal is to realize that you’re only a true leader if you’re willing to do the work of your team without complaint, when they need you most. This is what makes you a truly motivational leader, and you can learn more on how to be inspiring in this course.

Using these six stories as a base for motivation, you have an arsenal of themes and topics that you can use to raise your employees to additional success. The key in all of them is to be an effective communicator, which you can learn a little more about in this post.Rewarding your teams with bonuses or overtime only ever gets you so far, once you become a storyteller and are able to get them believing in what they are working on – that’s when you truly have a motivated team.

Paragliding Fun: Bhubaneswar gets ready for …..Some Adventure

participation of the localites for paramotoring then and that is why I decided to join hands with Fun Rides to bring this sporting event to Bhubaneswar. Why should people here miss the opportunity of trying this adrenaline filled ride in the skies? The chance will remain here for a whole year for people to experiment and enjoy,” he told MCL.“I am, in fact, trying to capture the entire eastern belt. Officially, Bhubaneswar is the first city in the zone to have paramotoring! In the next three months, we're planning to cover the space with carpet grass and there will a restaurant too for refreshments. Locals can also have their establishments nearby. Our plan also includes inviting international pilots who visit Manali and Goa. We want to make is so popular here that they would enjoy visiting Bhubaneswar as much as they do taking a trip to Goa,” he further added .Narrating the flying experience he has had with participants over the years, he said “Para motoring is all about the feeling. No matter how excited or nervous they sound before the ride; once they are back on land after the experience, they are in a different zone altogether. They always appear grateful for the experience because it gives you an adrenaline rush. So once you land, the first thing that comes out is the child in you, you're excited and happy. I have videos of tough military men who have come back on land either with tears in the eyes or behaving like children after the experience. Basically, you don't need to do yoga; this has the potential to take you somewhere else.”

Explaining the objective behind starting such an initiative in Bhubaneswar, Baldev Biswal and Bibhu Santosh Rout, the founders of Fun Rides told NICL, "Bhubaneswarites always had to travel to other states for recreational flying sport. There-fore with an aim to cater to those adventure enthusiasts in Odisha, Fun Rides decided to come up with Paramotoring for people to realise their dreams of flying in a cost effective way. And since Nikolai is one of the best in this field, we decided to collaborate with him.”

Although officially, it was supposed, to be launched on May 23rd, No flying could take place on that day due to inappropriate weather conditions. However, enthusiasts had showed up early in the morning for trying out, what has been often termed 'a life-changing experi ence'.

Haven't we all, at some point of our lives, felt a desire to fly high in the sky and touch the clouds; experience theexcitement of free flight? Well, the good news is that now you have the opportunity to do so, right in yourcity! For the first time in the historyof Odisha, Fun Rides has come up with exclusive Para-motoring facilities in Bhubaneswar near IIT campus in Jatni. These rides are designed for anyone and everyone who wants to gush through the winds and play with the clouds. Powered paragliding, also known as para-motoring or PPG, is a form of ultra light aviation where the pilot wears a motor on their back (a paramotor) which provides enough thrust to take off using a paraglider. It can be launched in still air and on level ground, by the pilot alone —no assistance is required.” Odisha has taken the initiative to put up this adventure sport for the locals to experience and enjoy. This adrenaline filled trip has not only come knocking on your door, it plans to stay here for a whole year. So, one need not travel to different states to try it out anymore. A team of flyers led by Nikolai Singh, pilot cum trainer from Shillong, has already come over to the town to help enthusiasts touch the sky. Being the only F l jet ski racer from India and having an experience of seven years in paramotoring, this is the first time Nikolai is conducting a paramotoring initiative for himself and the public. He has participated in many national level events, including PM Modi's swearing in ceremony. He was also a part of thePuri Carnival, which was held recently. “I was thrilled to see the excitement and active
