Al-khidmat Foundation Activities in Sindh Date District Activity

24-9-2014 Hyderabad Al-Khidmat Foundation distributed 30 wheel chairs among disabled people in Hyderabad. Note that each year Al-Khidmat Foundation arranges hundreds of wheelchairs distribution among disabled persons around the country with the collaboration of kind hearted donors. This year Al-Khidmat will distributed 1,500 wheelchairs with collaboration of free wheelchair mission (USA) among disable persons all over the Pakistan

22-9-2014 Tharparkar Al-Khidmat Foundation inaugurated a school in Tharparkar. The local children will receive education in the school; while 22 children will also receive free food (daily) on behalf of Al-Khidmat Foundation. Note that there is no school within the 80 k.ms radius of the area. Al-Khidmat Foundation has also arranged for a vocational center for women –the vocational center will teach sewing to the local women.

Time Line: Disaster Situation and Response Date Situation and Response

1st week of Sep Heavy rains and flash and riverine flooding in the four eastern rivers of Pakistan (Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, and Jhelum) affected the AJK, GB, and Punjab regions.

Immediate impact includes inundation of a large area of land along with loss of life, damage to property and infrastructure, agricultural and livestock losses.

With more than 3,166 villages submerged, thousands of people living in communities on the periphery of the rivers have been displaced.

PRCS dispatches teams to conduct preliminary assessments in affected areas

8th Sep Since the start of the rainfall in the past week, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has been closely monitoring the situation and is responding in all the affected provinces. At the National Headquarters in Islamabad, the Operational Room was activated to facilitate coordination with provincial and regional branches as well as RCRC Movement partners. At the provincial level, teams were deployed to conduct assessments in affected areas in Punjab and AJK. In addition to deploying assessment teams, the AJK State Branch is Coordinating with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), and conducted distribution of NFRIs in Bagh district. The PRCS website and the Disaster Management Information System (DMIS) are being updated on regular basis.

Two NDRTs have been deployed and sitreps have been issued. Based on preliminary assessment reports, the PRCS is planning to support 5,000 affected families in GB (300), Punjab (4,000) and AJK (700) with food and non-food items, emergency health services as well as emergency shelter. This figure is likely to increase as additional information from the field becomes available. As of today, 70 affected families in Punjab are being supported by the Society while rapid assessment teams have been deployed to affected districts in Punjab and AJK.

The PRCS AJK State Branch is coordinating with the SDMA and deployed teams from the districts of Bagh and Poonch to conduct assessments. Based on the assessment undertaken in Bagh district, distribution of emergency shelters along with non-food items to 62 affected families is being carried out. The content of the relief package includes tents, tarpaulin sheets, kitchen sets, hygiene kits, and blankets.

Two teams of trained staff and volunteers were deployed in the villages of Pothi Chapprian and Bantni Tehsil Hajira of Poonch district to conduct a rapid assessment. PRCS Punjab Provincial Branch in coordination with its District Branches, deployed assessment teams to affected areas in Punjab. The PRCS in Punjab is also coordinating with local disaster management authorities. On the request of the Gilgit Disaster Management Authority, PRCS GB Branch is providing relief assistance in Daiosai, District Astore to affected families.

The IFRC Pakistan Country Delegation has been closely monitoring the situation together with the PRCS, providing technical assistance and coordinating with all in-country Partner National Societies (PNS).

IFRC Emergency Appeal: Pakistan Monsoon Floods 2014

This Emergency Appeal seeks CHF 2,877,277 to enable the International Federation of Red Cross and Red

Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to deliver immediate assistance

and support to 32,500 flood-affected families (227,500 people), focusing on food and relief item distributions,

water and sanitation, health and hygiene promotion, psychosocial support, emergency shelter assistance. The

planned response reflects the information available at this point of the evolving operation, and will be adjusted

based on further developments and more detailed assessments, particularly regarding the recovery phase of

the operations that has not been included in this preliminary plan.

AKF Response to Flood Affected People in Mandi Bahauddin as on 23-9-

2014 Al-Khidmat Foundation Mandi Bahauddin with the team of dedicated doctors from Jinah Hospital Lahore

organized a Mobile Medical Camp in flood affected area Qadirabad, Mandi Bahauddin. More than 200 flood

affectees were examined and given free medicines. Head Qadirabad has affected many villages of Mandi

Bahauddin and Al-Khidmat Foundation’s relief teams have been providing food and medical aid continuously in

these areas.

Disease Early Warning System and Response in Pakistan

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF): During this week, 1 suspected CCHF case has been reported from

Punjab province.

In this week, 81 out of 87 districts and 2,678 out of 3,590 health facilities have reported to Disease Early

Warning System (DEWS.

A total of 1,149,374 patient’s consultations reported in this week 37, 2014.

In this week, a total of 35 alerts generated and timely responded,

8 alerts were for Measles

5 for Dengue fever

4 each for Leishmaniasis and NNT

3 for CCHF and Diphtheria

2 each for AWD and Acute diarrhea
