Wide Spread of FCV and Prospect of Hydrogen Society9:30 to 12:40 A scenario for the start of the mass production of FCVs was created by the Fuel Cell Commercialization Conference of Japan in 2015 and, in 2014, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) drew up the Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells. The use of hydrogen as a fuel source has received a clear emphasis within Japanese energy policy and the full-scale introduction of FCVs to the Japanese market has now begun. This forum will introduce the FCVs of each manufacturer, their state of development, and the state of readiness of the hydrogen fuel infrastructure in Japan. Y2. The Front Line of Drive Recorder Applications9:30 to 12:30 Drive recorders have rapidly become widely used in commercial vehicles. Their applications are not just limited to accident prevention and making scientific determinations of each party’s percentage of negligence in an accident. They have also proven effective for other applications such as scientifically based safety training. The extremely diverse array of uses for drive recorders also includes developing design guidelines for accident prevention and safety equipment based on the recorder’s accumulated data, accident analysis, deployment in driving operation diagnosis and training systems, roadway environment and infrastructure evaluation, and even extends to the use of drive recorders in automated driving technologies. (Tentative) Some Recommendations for the Transportation Systems and the Automotive Propulsion Systems Based on the Prediction of the Social Situation of 205013:30 to 17:00 Current issues in vehicle design and production include global warming, the depletion of fossil fuel energy sources and metal resources, the advancement of aging societies, concentrated population growth in the cities of emerging countries, and the expansion of vehicle markets. These are supplemented by uncertain economic and energy trends, air quality concerns, and increasing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the new challenge of self-driving vehicles that involves non-automotive fields such as ICT, ITS, IoT, and AI. Massive changes in the world of vehicles are predicted for the coming years. In addition to forecasting some of the coming technology trends, the committee has also attempted to look ahead to the year 2050 and summarize the key features for vehicles based on a wide array of different viewpoints, such as the social and economic factors cited above. It is hoped that the recommendations that will be presented in this forum will contribute to a greater understanding of the imagined automotive society of the future. Consequently, there are growing demands for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) that can accurately predict phenomena such as pre-ignition, knocking, soot and NOx generation, and slow combustion, which are controlled by chemical reactions. In recent years, as computing power has continued to increase, new techniques for solving detailed chemical reactions directly have drawn a great deal of attention as alternatives to conventional empirical modeling techniques. Predicting Future Tire from International Regulation, Road, Tribology, Vehicle NVH and Social Cost13:30 to 17:20 The committee has been examining the sound radiated from vehicle tires, which makes a major impact on road traffic noise, and has been identifying the various tire characteristics that contribute to this noise and collecting relevant technical information. The committee has now published its findings regarding the concept of social cost used as the basis for initiatives to address environmental problems, the friction analysis of rubber that incorporates precision technologies, and tire friction characteristics on ice. Furthermore, the committee will welcome ISO members from Europe as the world’s leading experts to introduce the results of projects to improve tire noise and rolling resistance by adapting tires to road surfaces in Europe. Finally, opinions will be exchanged about the future direction of tire related technologies from the standpoint of tires as an international commodity.
