Message froM tHe dean

Aloha,

Thank you for joining us at the Shidler College of Business 2013 Hall of Honor Awards.

The Shidler Hall of Honor is just one of the many events that allows the College to connect with its alumni and the greater business community. In the past year alone, we have met with hundreds of prospective students, alumni and business leaders throughout Hawai‘i and in California, Washington, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam. Our alumni and friends are truly amazing. They are thriving professionals and respected leaders who offer their support to help the College attain new levels of success.

Tonight, we are honored to welcome four remarkable alumni into the Shidler Hall of Honor: Susan Eichor, president and chief operating officer of aio; Denis Isono, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Central Pacific Bank; Angela Lee, Mechthild Esser Nemmers Professor of Marketing from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University; Keith Sakamoto, president and chief executive officer of Hawaiian Host. These individuals represent the best in business by showing outstanding commitment to their communities through their leadership, talents and charitable work.

Tonight, we are also honored to have Shidler alumna Dee Jay Mailer as our keynote speaker. As CEO of Kamehameha Schools, Dee Jay oversees a vast educational system and is responsible for strengthening the schools endowment, overseeing the stewardship of its lands, and supporting the practice of Hawaiian culture and language. Recently, Dee Jay has announced that she is retiring from Kamehameha Schools in 2014. Therefore, we are especially pleased that she has accepted our invitation to share her insights on the future of Hawai‘i and the Kamehameha Schools.

We also want to thank several individuals who have played an integral part in the success of this annual event: Emcee Barbara Tanabe, Bobby Senaha, publisher of Hawaii Business; Robin Campaniano, chair of the Shidler College of Business Advisory Council; the Shidler Alumni Association’s officers and directors; and of course, Jay Shidler.

Finally, we want to thank all of you here tonight who continue to support the College. There are over 15,000 Shidler alumni who reside in Hawai‘i, many of whom are representing their companies here tonight. Thank you for joining us, and I hope you have an enjoyable evening.

Sincerely,

Vance Roley

Message froM tHe title sponsor

Aloha and congratulations to the 2013 Hall of Honor inductees!

Hawaii Business magazine is honored to be the title sponsor of this event and a supporter of the Shidler College of Business. The College, frequently named among the nation’s top business schools, plays a crucial role in training the leaders of Hawai‘i.

Think of the huge role that past graduates have played in Hawai‘i’s economy and the broader community: Jay Shidler, Robin Campaniano, Warren Haruki, Susan Yamada, Eddie Flores, Barry Taniguchi, Dr. Virginia Pressler and Dee Jay Mailer. If the past is any guide, the future graduates of the College will help ensure a bright future for Hawai‘i.

On behalf of everyone at Hawaii Business magazine, we congratulate Susan Eichor, Denis Isono, Angela Lee and Keith Sakamoto for joining the ranks of the Hall of Honor inductees, and for the work that they have done to make Hawai‘i a better place.

We also extend a very special mahalo to the staff of the College, who have worked so hard to create this special event.

Mahalo nui loa,

Bobby Senaha, publisher
