2 | World Week 2015

WelcomeHello everybody!

My name is Peggy and I am your International Students’ Officer. And I am Annie, your Activities Officer. Together with International Students’ Committee, One World and the amazing staff from both the Students’ Union and the University, we are presenting to you the most diverse, biggest and best World Week ever this year! We would like to invite you all to join us from the 21st – 29th November to celebrate this special week together.

During the World Week, you will be able to explore many different cultures and discover more about the world around you with over 40 events including workshops, discussions, performances, showcases and much more. Our commercial outlets will be introducing special World Week offers so make sure you keep an eye out for them too!

We are particularly looking forward to spending our lunch times at ‘Around the World in 50 Minutes’, 5 mini-talks every day on topics as varied as female footballers in South America to the recent refugee crisis. But we will also enjoy putting on our dancing shoes for the World Week Ceilidh and we can all look forward to watching your International Students’ Officer take centre stage in the ‘Model for Moba’ fashion show!

Last but not least, we really want to thank everyone who has contributed towards World Week 2015, particularly the staff from both Students’ Union and University, and also the societies and committees from our very own Students’ Union who will be putting on events for you all!

Loads of loves and hugs,Peggy & Annie.

Sheffield Debating -Is volun-tourism a good thing?

19:00-21:00

Coffee Revolution Free

Every year, countless students take a year out from their studies to go on a gap year, and many do charitable work whilst doing so. But does voluntourism hurt those it seeks to help by putting locals out of work and replacing them with unskilled students? Or does such charitable work raise vital awareness of international issues, and provide much needed assistance where governments fail to tread?Come and watch this debate dealing with one of the biggest issues facing the politics of international development.
