20 GRAND, what can you do with that kind of cash? As I sit here and think of ways I would spend it, I realize and maybe you have too, chances are first place is going to walk with somewhere close to 30 K if they play in the optional entry fee. (Just a sidebar if I was you I would get in - PW that’s not just for you!) That’s something like 750 bucks per pound for Kingfish. Awesome! I have been a member of this incredible organization for almost 20 years now. The first Kingfish tournament I ever fished, was none other then, King of the Beach and yes I was hooked! I think back and try to remember what it was exactly that captivated me. Was there one specific thing that pulled me in to chase these slimy toothy critters to the end of the earth? After fishing from North Carolina to Louisiana there’s definitely something special

about the KOTB for me. Is it the payouts, the thrill of the chase, the adrenaline of the fight, the local competition, the camaraderie and friendship, the charity, the healthy smack talk, the emotional roller coaster of the leaderboard, the excitement of taking home a check, or the pursuit to be the next king?! I realize now, more than ever, there wasn’t one thing for me - it’s all those things. I’ve had the pleasure to hang a fish at the KOTB with: both my mother and father, my wife, my best friends and yes, now with my daughter. It’s our heritage, a tradition, and an honor to be part of such an amazing organization, event and community. Be sure you’re part of this monumental year! I have never had the honor to wear the cape and crown, but as President for the past 10 years (thanks Jimmy) I have had the honor to crown 18 Kings and award a staggering $1.5 million dollars (yeah you read it right 1.5 million) in prize money and in additional over $750,000 to our deserving charities. (In which we just made a dream come true for a terminally ill child to go to Hawaii and Bluewater fish) Mind you that’s what its really about!! On stage I have seen smiles on faces, looks of disappointment, I’ve even seen grown men cry, but no matter what, everyone is celebrating their own win and cheering the new king! It’s an indescribable amazing feeling and this year will prove to be no different! The Old Salt has always listened to our members and anglers alike. You asked for a single engine division, you got it. You asked for boundaries, you got them. You asked for a fun fish division and yes, we added it. None of these were or are easy decisions for the Board of Directors and we always take in consideration the masses. This year may have been the hardest decision yet, but you have been asking for years, a mandatory lie detector test, and we have been listening and weighing the options. Well, this year you got it. Not just one, but three. The Board of Directors decided in the best interest in maintaining a highly competitive, family-friendly, community event in which anyone can win, unanimously voted for your request. What else do you ask is in store for our 20th Anniversary Celebration? In true Old Salt style, another twist, a fish weighing 20 pounds or closest to it wins an 8 hp four stroke Mercury engine, provided by Mastery Engine Center. A cash payout for Spring and Fall Aggregate, of course a special prize for 20th Place and plenty more prizes to come. This is it folks, April 25 thru 27th marks the twentieth anniversary of the Old Salt Fishing Foundation’s King of the Beach Kingfish and Spanish mackerel Tournament and they’re pulling out all the stops for this one! Combined with the Mad Beach Food Fest, this is one combination party and fishing tournament you do not want to miss! The Grand Prize for the largest fish weighed in is a cool $20,000! In the past few years the crowds for this tournament have grown so huge the Old Salts had to move the venue to the Madeira Beach Ball Fields at 200 Rex Place just to accommodate all the action. If you never fished a King of the Beach Tournament or joined in the fun at the weigh-in and awards ceremonies then you’ve missed out on just about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on; and it’s a great party geared toward the whole family, so definitely bring the kids. Since the tournament is being held in conjunction with the Mad Beach Food Fest, there will be vendors of all kinds, games, raffles, live music, food, kids beverages and ice cold adult beverages; in other words, something fun for everyone. It’s estimated that over 10,000 partiers and well-wishers attended the three-day event last fall, and everyone had a blast! Now about the tournament: This is truly a great fishing contest that anyone can win. It’s not unusual to have 300 teams registered to fish King of the Beach, since everyone has as good a chance to win as anyone else. You don’t need a big boat and you don’t have to travel far offshore to find winning fish. There are separate divisions for single engine boats, ladies, youths and Spanish mackerel, so all your friends and family can fish, have fun and win!Advanced registration is only $195 per team and there’s no limit to the number of anglers each team can have. Many teams make it a point to include a lady angler and a kid or two just to have more chances to win the separate divisions. This tournament pays out cash prizes to the top 25 places, based on the weight of the fish, so bring the largest fish you catch to the weigh-in. This tournament features over $80,000 in cash and prizes; the richest King of the Beach Tournament ever! The mandatory Captains’ Party is Thursday April 25th at 6:30PM and it’s an extravagant event all its own! At least one team member must attend to get all the official tournament rules, but bring everyone for the party, because it’s a total hoot. There’ll be raffles and auctions for cool prizes, fishing gear, exotic travel and too much more to mention here. Last year I won tickets for two to Key West on Air Key West in an auction for $85! The tournament itself is Saturday April 27th with no formal check out to begin fishing, and the weigh in is from 4:00 to 5:00PM later that afternoon. This is when the party really begins to heat up as tournament teams

come in from their boats and their families, friends and well-wishers gather to urge them on.
