Day 5: I can understand what a comma is and how to use it correctly in a list.

When making a list, commas are the most common way to separate one list item from the next. The final two items in the list are usually separated by "and" or "or".

If you would like to find out more about commas in a list use the links below:

Day 5: What have you learnt?

Write some sentences explaining what you have learnt this topic. What have you enjoyed doing the most? What did you find out when you were researching about plants? Can you add any ‘Did you know?’ questions.

Day 5: Writing contractions. What is a contraction?A contraction is a word made by shortening and combining two words. Words like can't (can + not), don't (do + not), and I've (I + have) are all contractions.

Activity:Make the pairs of words. Fold them and stick them to create flash cards. Read the long version, then the short version of the word.Cut out individual words. Use the

Create a shopping list of different food or objects you would like to buy.

Now use what you have learnt about using commas in a list to write out some shopping lists. Make sure you use your commas correctly and remember to use ‘and’ ‘or’ before your last item.

You can then create different lists of your choice e.g. list of your favourite toys, favourite colours, favourite food etc.

Once you have completed the questions can you write some problem solving questions of your own? Can you use all 4 different operations? Can you write some questions involving multiplying and dividing. You could also think about creating your own maths story e.g. Miss Punter had 6 buckets with 4 shells in each. She puts 1 more shell in each bucket. How many shells does she have now?

Miss Williams baked 25 cakes and she ate 1 every day for 1 week. How many cakes does she have left?
