2020 NAMI Family-to-Family Program Coordinator/Director FAQs 1. Who should I recommend for each F2F training?

    • Current F2F teachers should be recommended as an “existing” program leader for the “NAMI F2F” training

    • Current F2F state trainers should be recommended as an “existing” program leader first for the “NAMI F2F” training and then for the “NAMI F2F state trainer” training (they must complete both the training for leaders and for trainers)

    • New F2F teachers should be recommended as “new” program leader for the “NAMI F2F” training

    • No new F2F state trainers should be recommended for any training through the NAMI Education Portal

    2. Who is eligible for a free F2F manual? • Existing or current F2F program leaders (teachers) • Existing or current state trainers

    3. How do teachers and trainers gain access to the free replacement F2F manual? They must be recommended for the correct training in the NAMI Education Portal with the email address associated with their nami.org log in. It’s critical that they are able to sign in to nami.org prior to completing their training to be able to order the free item in the NAMI Store. If they cannot sign in to the nami.org, they should wait to complete their training until they can (otherwise they won’t get access to the free manual).

    4. How do teachers and trainers sign into nami.org? If a teacher or trainer doesn’t have a nami.org log in, they should create one using the same email address that was used when recommending them for the F2F training. If they already have a nami.org log in, but can’t remember their password, they should try the ‘forgot password?” button. If they don’t receive the email to reset their password, then please ask them to reach out to [email protected] for support.

    5. How long are the online trainings? • For F2F existing program leaders, the training is less than an hour. • For F2F existing trainers, the training has two parts, the first is less than

an hour and, for the second, they should plan to spend 4-6 hours to familiarize themselves with the content used for new program leaders.

    • For F2F new program leaders, they should plan to spend 4-6 hours and complete the training prior to their in-person session.

    6. What changes were made to the F2F class?

    mailto:[email protected]

  • Updated: 1/3/2020 3

The 6th edition includes updated research, optional slide decks, more interaction and more activities. The new curriculum has been shortened to 8-sessions by condensing content, shortening the time spent on each diagnosis and eliminating session 11 (advocacy is incorporated throughout the course). The videos released in May of 2018 are fully incorporated into the curriculum. Core elements remain in the course including: self-care, communication activities, problem solving processes, crisis file, brain science, diagnoses, treatment options and a guest speaker in recovery.

    7. What changes were made to the training for F2F program leaders? Teacher training requires new F2F leaders to complete an online portion of the training prior to coming to the in-person portion of the training. This matches the structure of our other NAMI trainings that have moved to the blended training format. The in-person training is now shortened to 1.5 days, rather than 2 or 2.5 days. The in-person teacher training session is limited to 16 people which allows every trainee an opportunity to practice teaching.

    8. What is the difference between the F2F program leader training and the training of trainers? The F2F program leader training is a blended training for leaders that are interested in teaching the 8-session F2F class in their community. New F2F program leaders will need to complete an online training as well as an in-person training to be certified to teach the new class. The training of trainers is an annual national event that trains existing F2F program leaders to become state trainers so that they can train new F2F program leaders in the new leader training when they return home.

Common Online Training Questions from Program Leaders 1. Which browser should I use when working on this training? The training was

designed to work in Google Chrome but is also compatible with Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari. Do not attempt the course with other browsers; many of the functions do not work in Internet Explorer.

    2. The training is not working and I’m getting a “fatal error” message. What’s the issue? If your internet connection is weak, this could impact the functionality of the training. For example, cell phone “hot spot” connections are typically not strong enough to support the training. Try connecting to a stronger internet connection.

    3. I can’t find the email to sign into the training, how can I access it? To access the training, go to https://nami.bridgeapp.com/login and sign in with your email address as your username and your chosen password. If you forgot your password, please call Bridge support at 855-979-7399. If you haven’t logged into the training before, but you have been submitted into the system, you will need to find an email from [email protected] asking you to sign a program fidelity agreement form. If you can’t find this, please reach out to your program director/coordinator to cancel and then re-submit you to the training.

    4. I completed the training but the system isn’t marking me as complete, what do I do? Check the browser you are using. If you completed the training in a browser other than Chrome, Safari or Edge, you may need to sign into your account in one of those browsers to resolve this issue. Once you have a window open in one of the above browsers, please follow the instructions to question 3.

    5. Some of the functionality in my training is not working, how do I resolve this? The most compatible browsers with the trainings at this time are Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari. Please verify that you are currently using one of these browsers and that it's up to date. You can update your Google Chrome browser by typing "chrome://chrome" into your Chrome URL. These trainings were also created to be completed on a computer, so if you are attempting the training on your phone or tablet, this may be causing the issue as well.

    6. I can’t find the information that I entered in the training already, how do I find it? If you are no longer able to see content that you entered into the course, please email [email protected] for assistance.

    7. The text appears to be overlapping and I can’t read it. What can I do? The screen size of your device is too small and the training will not format properly. Try opening the training on a computer or a larger screen before continuing.

    8. I’m taking the course on my tablet and it’s behaving unusually. What do I do? The courses are designed to be taken on a laptop or desktop computer.

    https://nami.bridgeapp.com/loginmailto:[email protected]

  • Updated: 1/3/2020 5

Unfortunately, we can’t provide support for taking the course on a tablet at this time.

    9. Do I need to get every answer correct to pass the training? No, you can get answers wrong and still pass. If you like, you do have the option to redo each question but it’s not a requirement to pass the training.

    10. I have completed one module and it won’t unlock the next. How do I unlock the next module? If the next module won’t unlock, there is something you still need to complete in your current module. Scroll back up to the module Overview and see what you were tasked to do in your current module.

    11. Certain tabs are locked. How can I unlock them? These tabs are meant to be locked until you progress further in the training. Simply continue to the next tab and know that you will be able to access this content later in the training.

    12. Will my content be saved if I leave the training? Your content will be saved if you leave the training. You will need your Bridge username and password to re-enter.

    13. I’m getting a pop-up window message that says I’ve completed this module in the middle of the module. What does this mean? It means that, after you’ve completed that current activity, the next module has been unlocked for you to continue to progress through the training.

How to Recommend Someone for Training in the NAMI Education Portal

    1. From https://programadmin.nami.org, click on “Program Leaders” in blue at the top of the page

    2. Click on “Recommend a Program Leader”

    3. Your state will be chosen for you and you will select the Affiliate office from the

dropdown that you would like the program leader to be associated with.

    https://programadmin.nami.org/

  • Updated: 1/3/2020 7

    4. Select the appropriate program from the dropdown, either “NAMI F2F” or “NAMI

    F2F State Trainer”.

    5. Your information as the submitter cannot be edited; it reflects the information

associated with your nami.org account 6. Enter the information of the program leader (first and last names) and the email

address associated with their nami.org account. If you submit someone with an email address that is not the primary email address on their nami.org account, once they complete the training, for existing leaders, they won’t get access to the free materials, and for new leaders they won’t be updated appropriately in NAMI 360.

    7. Choose the program leader status that reflects their previous involvement with

the program they are being submitted for. If this is the first time they are training

  • Updated: 1/3/2020 8

for this program, choose “new program leader”. If they have already been trained for this program and need the updated materials and information, choose “existing program leader”. Involvement in other NAMI programs is irrelevant for this selection.

    8. Once existing program leaders have completed the online training, as the

"recommender" you will get an email notifying you of their status change and they will be updated in NAMI360 with their new training completion date.

    9. Once new program leaders have completed the online training, as the "recommender" you will get an email notifying you of their status change and that they are ready to be scheduled for the in-person training. Once they have completed the in-person training, please update their record by adding the date they completed their in-person training as the "in-person training completed on” date in the "details" of their record on the NAMI Education Portal. Once new program leaders have an "in-person training date" they will be updated in NAMI360 with their new training completion date.

    10. Please Note: If you have already submitted someone's name for a specific

training, let's say F2F, and they are showing as "online enrolled" for F2F, there's no need to re-submit them for that same program. If they can't find the email to log into the training, they can go to nami.bridgeapp.com and sign in with the

email address you used when you submit their information. If you re-submit someone who is showing as "online enrolled", this will cause an error in the NAMI Education Portal.

NAMI Education Portal Program Coordinator/Director FAQS 1. How can I access the training to support my prospective leaders?

You can add yourself as a Program Leader to the NAMI Portal and get emailed a link to the online training. Once you’ve had a chance to review the course, you can then look at your “Details” in the NAMI Portal and choose “Cancel Recommendation” so that you are not counted as an actual program leader.

    2. How will I manage program leaders?

In the portal you can see who has been submitted for training and where they are in their training process. If your nami.org account is associated with a NSO, you will see all program leaders in training in your state, if your account is associated with a NA, you will only see those in your affiliate. You will be emailed each time a person you submitted for training has completed the online training.

    3. Who can become a NAMI program leader?

Individuals must have an active NAMI membership to begin training to become a program leader. Prospective leaders must also have a free nami.org account. Please use the email address that matches that account when submitting a program leader. This way their NAMI 360 record can be updated once they’ve completed training.

    4. Why do the program leaders have to be a NAMI member to complete the

training? Everyone recommended to become a program leader should be a NAMI member before beginning their training. It’s particularly important with NAMI Family-to-Family that all trainees have an account that they can sign into on nami.org, otherwise they will not be able to order their free manual through the NAMI Store.

    5. I have existing program leaders that need to be updated on the new

program materials. What do I do? You will submit the names of existing program leaders to start the online training using the same process as a new individual, except you will tag the user as "existing program leader". Once they've completed the online training, they will be ready to present. (Existing program leaders are not required to go through In-Person training again.) To get access to the updated materials, existing program leaders must be marked as having completed the online training and new program leaders must be marked as having completed both the online and in-person trainings.

    6. We have a lot of existing program leaders. Is there a way to upload them all at once to complete the orientation to the updated materials? We are asking that NSOs and NAs upload their own leaders so that only active presenters go through the orientation and gain access to the updated materials.

  • Updated: 1/3/2020 11

If you need support in uploading your program leaders, please send your list in an excel document with their first name, last name, email address (that’s associated with their nami.org account) and their program leader status (existing or new program leader) to [email protected].

    7. The information for each program leader is not updating. What’s the issue? The information on the portal updates every 15 to 60 minutes. If you’ve had the portal page open for an extended amount of time, you need to refresh the page to see any changes that have occurred since you first opened the page.

    8. I submitted a program leader in the portal and they didn't receive an email to begin the training process. What's the issue? Click on their name to double check their email address. If the email address includes a typo, cancel that recommendation and submit them again. If everything looks correct, ask the leader to check their spam folder for an email from [email protected].

    9. A row is highlighted in orange. What does that mean? An orange highlight indicates an error with the submission.

    a. The most common error message is “Error: There is no record found with the primary email …” and indicates that no record was found in NAMI 360 with that primary email address. For this reason, this person cannot be properly designated after completing the training. There are two possible solutions:

    i. If the program leader does not have a nami.org account, they must create one, using the same email address that was used to recommend them for training. To create a nami.org account go to nami.org and click “Sign In” and then “Create an Account”.

ii. If the program leader has a nami.org account associated with another email address, they must update their email address to match the one submitted in the portal. To update their primary email address, please email [email protected] for support at this time.

For additional questions not listed here, please email [email protected].
