GIRLS SCHOOL ROAD INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46214 God has given us the privilege of working with and pouring our lives into college-age interns each summer since 2003. This semester we had the privilege of working with Jennifer Strack from IUPUI. Since MI partners with many ministries and Non-profits, our goal was to expose Jennifer to as many of our friends and what they do, as possible. Partners visited included: Brookside CDC, Englewood CDC, Maurice Young, Meet Me Under the Bridge, Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic, City Life, Central Library, Horizon House and Purchased. 4 takeaways from my intern- ship experience with Mission Indy: When searching for an intern- ship I made sure to stay open- minded about opportunities that may come my way. I first met with Ron and Matt last fall, where they gave me an overview of Mission Indy and some opportunities they could offer me. One thing they did not mention was how they would impact my life so much. Throughout the past 4 months they have taken me to different non-profit organizations in the area that they partner with. I have learned a ton of infor- mation about their organiza- tion and others, but wanted to break down my biggest takea- ways as best as I could. 1. Gods got this. No matter how many things may come up that seem messy and not right, God is there. Going through college has been so busy that some- times I do not spend enough time thanking Him for all that I am provided with. This experience opened up my eyes and my heart to tru- ly trust Him and believe that He is always there. 2. There is always a way to help others. Ron and Matt took me from organization to or- ganization, showing me ex- actly how there are ways to help. I quickly noticed how lucky I was, and how unfor- tunate others were. Every organization we went to showed us ways we, or oth- ers could give back. 3. God needs our help just as much as we need his. After seeing all these organiza- tions and the people in- volved, I realized why I was there. These people need help, and it is not just with mon- ey. Although donating is always an option, volun- teering at different organi- zations in the area is the best way to show you care. 4. Lastly, but most important- ly: There are so many good people in this world. It seems so easy to get caught up in life and politics and everything else that we for- get how many amazing peo- ple there really are. Ron and Matt are some of those peo- ple. Always putting others first, and finding happiness that way. I am so thankful to have had this experience with Mission Indy these past few months. Heres to the future!

4 takeaways from my intern-ship experience with Mission Indy:

When searching for an intern-ship I made sure to stay open-minded about opportunities that may come my way. I first met with Ron and Matt last fall, where they gave me an overview of Mission Indy and some opportunities they could offer me. One thing they did not mention was how they would impact my life so much. Throughout the past 4 months they have taken me to different non-profit organizations in the area that they partner with. I have learned a ton of infor-mation about their organiza-tion and others, but wanted to break down my biggest takea-ways as best as I could.

1. God’s got this. No matter how many things may come up that seem messy and not right, God is there. Going through college has been so busy that some-times I do not spend enough time thanking Him

for all that I am provided with.

This experience opened up my eyes and my heart to tru-ly trust Him and believe that He is always there.

2. There is always a way to help others. Ron and Matt took me from organization to or-ganization, showing me ex-actly how there are ways to help. I quickly noticed how lucky I was, and how unfor-tunate others were. Every organization we went to showed us ways we, or oth-ers could give back.

3. God needs our help just as much as we need his. After seeing all these organiza-tions and the people in-volved, I realized why I was there.

These people need help, and it is not just with mon-ey. Although donating is always an option, volun-teering at different organi-zations in the area is the best way to show you care.

4. Lastly, but most important-ly: There are so many good people in this world. It seems so easy to get caught up in life and politics and everything else that we for-get how many amazing peo-ple there really are. Ron and Matt are some of those peo-ple. Always putting others first, and finding happiness that way.

I am so thankful to have had this experience with Mission Indy these past few months. Here’s to the future!

Riverside Church from South Bend Indiana joined us for the week of March 31st - April 6th. Originally we were to be hosted at Southport Heights Christian Church and they were ready for us. However, with a small group (6) it doesn't make a lot of sense to set up, clean and tear down the shower trailer. So we asked our friends at Englewood Christian Church if they had a place for us. As it turns out, their “Yes” was a huge blessing because the weather turned cold and would have caused great problems for us trying to use the shower trailer. The group had to “rough it” by staying in the very nice Mission House next door to Englewood! What hardships we forced upon them :) NOT.

One of their first activities on Sunday evening was the chance to try out the very unique roof top hockey rink at the Commonwealth, on the other side of Englewood CC.

Matt always enjoys a game of hockey, even if he does feel it the next day!

The group had a lot of fun!

The first two days were spent serving with Brookside Community Development Corporation on the eastside near 11th and Dearborn. This small duplex is part of the Re-entry Program that Brookside manages. The right side is occupied with a gentleman that is doing well, and was at work while we were on site. The left side is still being renovated.

Our tasks were to a) Build a short porch / deck on the front of the duplex and b) to do some landscaping and clean-up around the yard.

Both were accom-plished and even ear-ly, so we went to a second Brookside

Spring Break Continued

Isaiah House is the first step for men coming out of incarceration. They live with a house manager in community and have support to begin the very difficult steps of re-entry into a society that often is not welcoming or helpful.

Mission Indy began demolition work on this house on a cold day in January 2018. We did further demolition work in the summer of 2018.

Now the home is completely finished inside and we had the privilege of doing some work on the back porch and cleaning ups the back yard.

The Open House for the home, which will house 4-5 guys was held on Saturday April 13th and Mission Indy was able to attend and celebrate with Brookside CDC and the men who live there.

Thanks to Riverside Church for the finishing touches!

On Wednesday, the group worked with Impact Fairfax over on the near westside of town. Then on Thursday and Friday, they completed a patio / sidewalk out of paving blocks for Englewood Commu-

nity Development Corporation and Taoli Tamale Shop. They also managed to clean-up two lots, loading two dumpsters

Mission Indy loves the Church and clearly believes that God has chosen to

primarily reveal His wisdom to the world through the local body of believers.

Further, Mission Indy believes that God has gifted each local congregation

with all they need to be the faithful followers of Christ in that particular place.

Therefore, Mission Indy promotes opportunities to foster participation and co-

operation among church groups based upon deep conversation and discern-

ment about what God is doing in the Greater Indianapolis area. Our vision is for

local churches to be trained, encouraged, challenged, and motivated to be fully

engaged communities of faith who join God in the work of the Kingdom and

bear witness to His love and wisdom by their shared life together.

Multiple recruiting trips have been made to Milli-gan and Johnson, Cedarville and U Indy. We have been to Taylor, IUPUI and Purdue Christian Campus House along with Greenville University and Indiana Wesleyan. Many students came up and talked and several indicated they will be applying.

Some stories of the three applicants we have are simply miraculous on how God led them to us.

Please pray the Lord will lead just those who need to be with MI this summer. We trust in Him, but as humans, we are not quite sure how to serve the large groups who are planning to come this summer— unless we get more Interns.
