12020 Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool Donor Report

2

Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool started as a labor of love long before this beautiful facility opened in 2011 as TOSA Pool at Hoyt Park. Our nonprofit organization was formed in 2006 by supporters like you, who took on the mission of restoring this treasured community gathering place.

COMMITTED TO A VIBRANT, INCLUSIVE AND

FAMILY-FRIENDLY EXPERIENCE

We haven’t lost sight of this mission in our ten years of operation, including eight seasons operating The Landing outdoor beer garden. TOSA Pool, the Grand Hall and The Landing are looking better than ever, thanks to diligent maintenance planning and the support of our loyal donors, sponsors, members and guests.

TOSA PoolTOSA Pool at Hoyt Park is an award-winning outdoor community pool that provides summertime fun for all ages. Our strong focus on health and wellness is enhanced by swim lessons for children and adult fitness classes provided by our partnership with the Wauwatosa Recreation Department.

The LandingThe Landing at Hoyt Park is an outdoor gathering space, where people of all ages come together and build the relationships that make our neighborhoods strong. The Landing brings more people to Hoyt Park, increasing awareness of the park and the Menomonee River as valued natural resources.

The Grand HallFrom the beginning, we were determined to preserve the WPA-built 1930s bathhouse structure. Featuring a fireplace and the original wood paneling, it now hosts special community events and is available to rent year round for reunions, birthdays, business meetings and weddings.

As we made plans for our 10th season at TOSA Pool, the month of March brought the incredible challenges we are all dealing with. We’ve always been dedicated to serving the community, so we made the decision early on to do everything possible to open safely.

Through an incredible show of support from the community, business sponsors, and people like you, we were able to open this summer. Being open provided much-needed recreation and normalcy during this difficult time.

DEDICATED TO SERVING THE COMMUNITY

8

Members and non-members alike were able to swim and maintain a little piece of summer, when many other activities were simply not available.

As the only public pool in Milwaukee County, and one of the few across the entire region, to be open, TOSA Pool at Hoyt Park hosted nearly 70,000 people from over 33 zip codes during the course of the season. In addition, 1,535 members and their families were able to take advantage of TOSA Pool and have a place they could enjoy throughout the summer.

CUSTOMER & COMMUNITY FOCUSED

10

Our strong focus on health and wellness was maintained through our partnership with the Wauwatosa Recreation Department. Despite the challenges, we were able to work together and develop plans to safely deliver important programs to the community.

PROTECTING A FOCUS ON HEALTH AND WELLNESS

From youth swim classes to adult exercise programs, our large outdoor environment enabled us to serve the people that depended on these programs while protecting both them and the surrounding community from the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

12

Over our ten years, FOHPP has provided hundreds of seasonal jobs for area youth, developing customer service, management and leadership experience. Our team members take these skills with them to college and their professional careers.

RAISING THE CITIZENS OF TOMORROW

2020 proved to be no different. During the season our 43 TOSA Pool Crew members, 47 lifeguards, and 15 members of The Landing Crew helped us maintain a safe environment and allowed us to continue to operate and serve the community.

14

We are so thankful we were able to provide these vital services this past season, but doing it responsibly and safely came at a cost.

2020 WAS A CHALLENGING SEASON

TOSA Pool, The Landing and the Grand Hall exist because of the community support and generosity that helped bring them to life. We need your help so we can continue to serve you in the years ahead.

We had to severely restrict our capacity, dramatically

reducing the revenue generated to fund our

operations. For the year, membership sales were down 39%down 39% and daily admission sales were reduced by 67%reduced by 67%.

The Landing beer garden seating capacity was limited and live music was canceled, which caused activity at the

beer garden to be reduced by 40%reduced by 40%.

Also an important source ofincome for our organization,

FOHPP events and Grand Hall rental activity were

cut dramaticallycut dramatically.

YOUR SUPPORT IS OUR FINANCIAL FOUNDATION

We don’t receive funding from the city, county or state to operate the TOSA Pool, so the support of our sponsors and donors is very important; it helps to keep membership costs and daily admission fees affordable. When you support FOHPP, you are ensuring TOSA Pool and The Landing have the funds needed to be award-winning facilities where the community can spend the summer for years to come.

From the generous support of local businesses that initially rallied to the Hoyt Park & Pool restoration cause, to current business sponsorships and private donations, the local community has provided support just when it was most needed.

GIVING BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY

As a business sponsor, your support is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that your company is an active and engaged part of the community. Sponsoring an event or programming will also place your business in front of a diverse cross-section of local residents, both on-site and in our marketing and communications channels.
