Together with our partners and stakeholders, the Carbon Market Institute has enjoyed tremendously successful events over the past few years. In 2017, 110 speakers from business and government connected with more than 500 delegates, providing key insights into how business is positioning for economic growth in a low carbon world, and together we discussed the evolution of domestic and international policies required to meet emissions reduction goals.

In 2018 we will again host national and international leaders from government, business, technology and finance. In recent years we have been able to attract significant international keynote speakers such as Hon Frank Bainimarama, Prime Minister of Fiji & COP23 President (2017); Anote Tong, former President of the nation of Kiribati (2016); and Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC (2015) - as well as the key Australian political and business leaders.

The 5th Australasian Emissions Reduction Summit is set to be a bigger, more significant and more impactful event. The 2018 event will come at a time following Australia’s 2017 Climate Policy Review, as as business starts to take real steps towards investing in emissions reductions and scaling up and deploying low carbon technologies at scale across the region. It will also be a time when regional carbon markets will be gearing up as the post-Paris transition kicks in.

The Summit will again be a a high profile platform for knowledge exchange & commercial interaction, and a time for climate change, government and business professionals to connect with leaders, and reinvigorate our place in Australia’s transition to a low carbon economy.

About the SummitThe Carbon Market Institute’s annual flagship event brings together national & international leaders from business, government, technology & finance for knowledge exchange & commercial interaction on how to manage the implementation challenges & create economic opportunities in the transition

to a low carbon world.

The 5th Australasian Emissions Reduction Summit will again be the largest climate change and business event in Australia and take its place of increasing interest and influence on the regional Asia Pacific stage. For Australian business and policy decision makers, charting a

course for growth and meeting national emissions targets is a challenge that will intensify.

There is no guide book for navigating the low carbon economy, and delegates attending the Summit will be looking for technology, finance, and low carbon solutions, best practice corporate strategies, the opportunities to collaborate and the services and advice to help

In 2017, women accounted for 40% of the Summit delegation. We’re working to ensure that more women in climate change are represented in 2018, and celebrating their achievements at our Women in Climate Breakfast.

The 2018 Summit program will be structured to maximise knowledge exchange, commercial interaction and peer-to-peer networking. The Summit will run over two days at

the world-class Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The official program of the 5th Australasian Emissions Reduction Summit will include Keynote Presentations, facilitated Q&A-style Panel Discussions, and interactive workshops focused on sharing knowledge across three streams:

Summit sessions will cover a wide range of policy discussions, including the evolution of Australian policy following the 2017 Climate Policy Review; sub-national action on climate change, and development of the Paris Agreement.

Development of carbon markets is a key focus for this event, particularly in the context of understanding abatement demand/supply post-2020; international market linkages; and the role of climate finance in the transition.

Business is learning rapidly, and through the two-day program, companies will share leadership, experiences, and understand the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities in the transition to a zero-carbon economy.

Lord’s, Wembley, Eden Gardens and Yankee Stadium are considered among the greatest sporting arenas in the world, but for history, pure drama and

emotion, it’s hard to look past the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The ground was built way back in 1853 when the then 15-year-old Melbourne Cricket Club was forced by the government to move from its former site because the route of Australia’s first steam train was to pass through the oval.

Since then the MCG has established a marvellous history that compares favourably with any other in the world, hosting the first-ever international cricket Test, the 1992 World Cup final and the 1956 Olympic Games (let’s not

forget the AFL Grand Final every year as well!).

Only minutes from the heart of the Melbourne CBD, the ‘People’s Ground’ is famous for its world class concert and conference events, with exceptional facilities accommodating breathtaking views of the hallowed turf and

Melbourne city.
