Graduations, weddings, baptisms and ordinations can often spur a trip down memory lane and remind us of important mile markers in our lives. The ordination of two priests for our diocese on Friday provides an opportunity to remember when I was ordained a priest (almost 36 years ago) and recommit to the promises made at that time. This week we welcome a seminarian for a couple months this summer and this is a grace for the parish and for me to reflect upon our mission and ministries, and assist a young man in realizing what parish life is like and how his gifts can be developed and used in the Church. Here are a few words from our summer resident:

“My name is Matthew Nordquist I am a seminarian for the Diocese of Winona-Rochester. I will be entering my 6th year of seminary formation this fall and my second year of Theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.

A short note about my own life. I was born in Rochester, MN and moved to Fairmont, MN when I was four years old. I lived there until I graduated from Fairmont High School and went to Benedictine College in Atchison, KS where I studied Theatre and Theology. I was only there for a year before the Lord brought me to seminary. I studied Philosophy at

Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona for three years where I graduated from in 2016. I went to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia for one year to engage in a Spiritual year of formation. Now I am studying at Sacred Heart in Detroit and I will be there for the next three years. I am very excited to be assigned to St. Joseph the Worker in Mankato and Holy Family in Lake Crystal and look forward to learning a lot during this short time.

I enjoy fishing, playing pretty much every sport there is, learning languages, studying art, and having good conversations. I am the oldest of five and my family still lives in Fairmont. Some of my favorite saints include St. Catherine of Siena, St. John Vianney, St. Gerard Majella, and St. Padre Pio.

I will be arriving at the parish this Tuesday the 12th of June and staying until sometime in August. Please pray for me during this time, I look forward to meeting you all!”

Last Wednesday (6/6), the daily reading had these inspiring words from St. Paul to Timothy, which could inspire each of us to live up to the calling we have received: “I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have received through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.” Hope that helps you on your summer travels!

Sincerely in Christ,

Plan ahead for you summer giving! Have your contribution to St. Joseph the Worker/Holy Family processed automatically!

With the Automatic Payment Plan, your contributions can be made without writing a check. No need to change your present banking relationship.

You authorize monthly payments from your account. Your financial institution transfers the pre-determined amount from either your checking or savings account to SJW’s account.

We withdraw your contribution from your bank account on the 5th, the 20

th or both the 5

th and 20th of each month. If either

of these days of the month falls on a weekend or a bank holiday, your contribution is processed on the next business day.

The Automatic Payment Plan saves both you and the parish time and money because you write fewer checks and you have the peace of mind knowing your payment was made on time. Your monthly bank statement (or your on-line balance) will show proof of your payment.

You can authorize the Automatic Payment Plan quickly and easily. Simply fill out an EFT form available in the Parish Entrances, the Parish Office and on our website, sjwhf.org. Questions? Call or email the Parish Office at 507-388-3766 or [email protected].

(SJW Parishioners: this option is also available for your Capital Campaign giving, inquire with the Parish Office.)

MONTH TWO – Developing Baby Spiritual Adoption Program Your baby is making progress developing all of his/

her external features and internal organs. His/her brain is functioning at 40 days. His/her mother can hear his/her heartbeat now on an ultrasonic stethoscope. Milk-teeth buds are present at 6 ½ weeks. And it has been reported that a two-month old baby can suck his/her thumb. From this moment, your spiritually adopted baby grows and refines his/her body. But everything he/she needs to survive once he/she is born is already present by the end of the eighth week.
