Interested in a career in journalism or media?
Jessica Grimble, editor, The Wimmera Mail-TimesTell us about your career. My involvement with The Wimmera Mail-Times began during my year 10 studies at Horsham College, when I completed work experience and later became a contributor. After fi nishing year 12, I went on to start my journalism career as a cadet reporter at The Mail-Times. I left Horsham in 2010 to gain broader career experiences. I have since worked in senior leadership roles at The Shepparton News, The Cobram Courier, The Bendigo Advertiser and The Warrnambool Standard before returning to The Mail-Times in March.
What brought you back to the Wimmera? Becoming the editor of The Wimmera Mail-Times was a long-held dream of mine. The opportunity to come home and live that dream has been an amazing whirlwind of opportunity and growth. I am proud to have grown up in this beautiful part of the country, at Brimpaen, and I understand what makes this region tick. My love for the Wimmera has remained constant despite many years away.
What do you like most about your role? I love telling the stories that matter to our community. That is the beauty of a masthead such as The Mail-Times - we live in, we participate and we are connected to our community. We are also providing news to our readers in new ways than ever possible before, both online and in print, and that’s truly exciting. I love that no two days are the same.
What advice would you give to people wanting to pursue a career in the media? Put yourself out there. Work hard, never stop learning and don’t be afraid to ask questions.Good communication is key. Keep your eyes open - everyone has a story to tell.Be open to new ideas and feedback.

About the ExpoThe Western Victorian Careers Expo is country Victoria’s largest careers expo. Since its inception in 1986, this premier regional event has provided a one-stop-shop of vocational information to Western Victorian students, school leavers, job seekers, career changers, those returning to work and people considering further study or
training.
The Expo offers a broad range of career and
course information as well as interactive
opportunities including our ‘Try A Trade’
section. The Wimmera Events Centre (WEC) at
Longerenong offers a high standard of facilities
for presenters and participants, and allows
exhibitors sufficient space to present their
information in engaging and innovative ways.
Attendees have the opportunity to talk to
a wide range of career, industry and course
advisors on a one-to-one basis. Our exhibitors
and presenters consist of local, regional,
metropolitan and interstate representatives,
including more than 20 Victorian and South
Australian universities.
Over 2,000 students, parents, job-seekers and

Women’s AFL star at the ExpoCollingwood’s Moana Hope, will be a guest at the 2017 Western Victorian Careers Expo.
Underneath the tattoo sleeve, the soft voice and the mercurial skills, Moana Hope is a fine footballer.
She has won the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) leading goal-kicker award, the Rohenna Young Medal, for three consecutive seasons. Her best season, 74 goals in 2006, highlights her rare ability. In 2017, the 29-year-old became one of Collingwood’s first marquee players when she ran out for the Pies in the inaugural Women’s AFL competition.
Moana will be a guest at the 2107 Western Victoria Careers Expo and will speak at two sessions, commencing at 10.30 am and 12.30 pm in the TIS Pavilion. Moana will also make appearances during the day at the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly site.
