CANADIAN BOCCIA CHAMPIONSHIPS

REGISTRATION CRITERIA
All participants must be members in good standing of a PSO that is a member of the
CCPSA.
ATHLETES
Minimum age to participate is 15 years old before January 1st, 2017. Athletes are
eligible if they were born prior to January 1st 2002.

EVENT CATEGORIES
Individual events: BC1, BC2, BC3, BC4 and OPEN category
Pair BC3, Pair BC4, and BC1/BC2 Teams
The OPEN category is reserved for athletes with an impairment that does not meet
criteria for categories BC1, BC2, BC3, or BC4.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ATHLETES
Provincial Team Composition
At most, three athletes may compete in each of the following categories:
BC1, BC2, BC3, and BC4. There are no restrictions as to the number of coaches or
support personnel.
Competition
Individual Events
BC1, BC2, BC3, BC4, and OPEN class
Teams
Maximum five athletes for these categories: BC1 and BC2 (at least one (1) BC1).
Each team may have up to two (2) alternates (when there are two alternates the
team must have at least two (2) BC1 athletes).
Pairs
BC3 Pairs: maximum three athletes. On the court, one player must have cerebral palsy.
BC4 Pair: maximum three athletes.

Transportation Adapted / para-transportation will be arranged from the airport to the
Sandman Hotel Longueuil Wednesday/Thursday and Sunday/Monday. Shuttles
will be available during competition, and will travel between the hotel and the
competition site, in accordance with the competition schedule. The Sandman
Hotel is roughly 5-10 minutes from the competition site by car. It is still advised
that athletes bring hats and waterproof and warm clothing.

There are eight (8) courts for competition, and three (3) courts for training.
There will also be a location in which equipment can be stored. The
aforementioned storage space will be open from 7h00 to 9h00, and once
again at the end of each day of competitions. Outside of these hours, indirect
access is available via an entrance that bypasses the courts.

Meals Meals are provided from Thursday morning to Sunday night. Participants may
also eat at the hotel, neighbouring restaurants, or purchase food at grocery
stores at their own cost. Breakfasts are buffet-style and will be served in the
Lafontaine Room between 6h00 and 8h00. Lunches (hot meals) will be served
at the Centre sportif Édouard Montpetit in Gym A between 11h30 and 13h30.
Dinners are offered buffet-style in the Lafontaine Room at Hotel Sandman
between 17h30 and 20h00. Accreditation will be required.

Closing Banquet
The Closing Banquet is included in registration fees. A limited number of
additional tickets for the banquet are available at a cost of $50.00. To purchase
these additional tickets, please contact Sarah Caylus prior to Thursday March
16, at noon. The banquet will be held in the Jacques-Cartier Room and Victoria
Room at the Sandman Hotel.
Accreditation and Athlete Numbers All team members will receive an accreditation badge upon their arrival. This
badge must be worn by all participants or attached to their wheelchairs, and
must be visible at all times, except when on courts. All athletes, sport assistant
and coaches must wear their accreditation badge: to be admitted to the
classification room, to access the warm-up area, and to access the call room. T
Athlete bib numbers will be assigned to each athlete as per the following:

Open Category 501 – 504
Athletes will receive at least two (2) athlete numbers (3 for the BC3 category)
which must be worm at all times, and be visible during all phases of play. One
athlete number must be affixed to the front of the jersey or the pant leg. The
second number must be affixed to the back of the wheelchair and be clearly
visible. BC3 and BC1 Sports Assistants must wear the same number on their
backs as the athletes they are assisting.
Classification The competition’s Lead Classifier is Lorette Dupuis. Classification will take place
at the Centre sportif Édouard_Montpetit in Longueuil. Only athletes with NEW
status, or athletes from the Open category will be examined (the latter to
determine if they can be included in the new BC5 category). No appeals will
be accepted.

1. Athletes must be present for classification at the scheduled time with the
following:
appropriate equipment, including ramps/chutes, boccia ball holders,
pointers, sports wheelchairs, braces, and all other pieces of equipment
used during competition
a piece of identification with legal name displayed;
list of currently used medications;
information about their impairment;
classification consent form signed.
2. An athlete cannot be accompanied by more than one individual.
3. Conforming with the BISFed Competition Manual, athletes will be observed
on the court during play prior to their classification. The Classification panel
will observe athletes while athletes perform boccia game play movements
during training sessions, events, or round robin matches. Competition
classification will not be considered final until the panel has adequately
observed the athlete in competition. If, for whatever reason, the Classification
panel is not satisfied with observations made during competition, the athlete
may be required to participate in the following competition with a revised
status.
Classification Protests
Classification protests will not be accepted for this Championships.
Equipment Equipment Verification
Equipment Verification will take place Thursday March 16, in Gym B of the
Centre sportif Édouard-Montpetit, beginning at 13h00, and as per the following
schedule:

The new BISFed test will not be implemented during the Canadian
Championships. Nevertheless, a prototype will be used and all balls will be
verified. This is for informative purposes only, and no balls will be confiscated.
However, take note that weight and circumference tests will be enforced.
Athletes may use their own balls, or balls provided for the competition.
Prior to the start of the competition, all equipment will be verified and approved
by referees under the supervision of the Head Referee. Balls that are not
approved will be retained until the end of the competition.
Equipment is subject to spot checks at any time during the competition, at the
sole discretion of the Head Referee. If balls do not meet criteria during a spot
check, the player or side at fault will receive a warning and the balls will be
retained by the Head Referee until the last day of the competition. The warning
will be indicated on the scoresheet, and a notice will be posted at the entrance
to the call room.
Number of Balls
The number of balls authorized upon entry into the call will conform with the
2017 BISFed Boccia Rules.

Training, Warm-up, and Call Room Training
Open training for all provinces will be held March 16th from 13h00 to 17h00 in
Gyms C and D at the Centre sportif Édouard- Montpetit in Longueuil.
Warm-up Courts
At least three (3) warm-up courts will be available to athletes during
competition days.
Call Room
Athletes may be accompanied in the call room by a maximum of:
BC1 1 coach, 1 assistant
BC2 1 coach

Registration is at the call room desk. Teams and pairs must appear between forty
(40) and twenty (20) minutes prior to their match; individual athletes must appear
between thirty (30) and fifteen (15) minutes prior to their match. A coach may
only register an individual athlete if that athlete is on court at the time, or is absent
for health or personal care reasons.
Technical Protests, Procedures Protest procedures are detailed in the 2017 BISFed Boccia Rules. Please note that
if an athlete wants to file a protest for a situation that has occurred in the call
room, they must advise the Head Referee of this intention BEFORE leaving the
call room. Protests must be in writing using the official protest form, and be
submitted by the athlete/captain, coach, or team director, and be
accompanied by a fee of $275 CAN.

Competition Structure Competition structure conforms to principles defined by BISFed. For more

will be explained in a more detailed fashion during the technical meeting for
coaches.
Cameras and Web Broadcasting
So as to foster a high-performance environment for athletes, no cameras apart
from those belonging to Boccia Canada will be admissible in the competition
area. The grandstands are a suitable place for cameras. During pair and team
competitions, a coach may film the match from their reserved area.
Web broadcasting will take place during the competition. Athletes on Courts 1
and 3 will be invited for an interview with the webcast host at the end of their
match. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to modify court allocation
prior to the beginning of each match in order to boost web broadcasting.
Pool Constitution
Pools will be constituted conform to the most recent Boccia Canada rankings,
which is available on www.bocciacanada.ca.
Competition Schedule
The final competition schedule will be distributed to teams after classification.
Athletes will be observed competing on court prior to their classification being
confirmed. Any necessary adjustments will be made to the schedule before it is
distributed. Each team will receive two (2) paper copies and one (1) electronic
copy of the final schedule. Each head coach / team director can obtain a
paper copy of the schedule at the hotel reception desk as of 20h00, Thursday
March 16, provided classification is completed. The schedule will be posted on
site during the competition and will be available online.
Medals and Trophies
Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be given to the top three finishers in each
category, provided that there are more than four competitors in the category.
Wild card athletes are eligible for both medals and ranking points. Following
BISFed protocol, medals will also be awarded to BC3 Performance Partners.

The Gilles Henry Trophy for sportsmanship will be awarded to an athlete at the
end of competition.
All-star teams will be introduced for the first time.
After the Pairs and team Finals, each provincial coach can name two athletes
in each pair, as well as three athletes from teams (two BC2 and one BC1, or
one BC2 and two BC1) to the Championships All Star team. Coaches must
name athletes who have positively contributed to team or pair performance.
Coaches cannot name athletes from their own province.

CCPSA CODE OF CONDUCT
The CCPSA Code of Conduct will be the standard for all participants. It is
possible to consult this document by request.
