$2 MILLION ESTIMATED ECONOMIC IMPACT
Ringette is a sport that was developed by women, for women. This uniquely feminine game celebrates some of the many things that are great about Canadian girls and women. It allows players to compete, to train and become elite athletes, and to develop important life skills, such as leadership and teamwork.
Statistics Canada states that only 19% of women in Canada participate in sports; only 2% of girls between ages 12-17 are getting enough physical activity; and finally, if a girl doesn’t participate in an organized sport by age 10, there is only a 10% chance she’ll be physically active by age 25. Ringette is an opportunity for girls to play with only other girls. Participants are also encouraged to continue playing the sport into adulthood which often leads to passing a love for the sport on to their own daughters.
Our team is working to ensure that ringette maintains its rightful spot as the top sport for females in our country, and the Canadian Ringette Championships help to bring the sport to the mainstream.
As Canada celebrate its 150th birthday, let’s celebrate some of the Canadian women that have gotten us here. Let’s celebrate the athletes that continue to play our sport and are helping to bring it to the forefront. And finally, let’s encourage the girls who aspire to play here one day – the future leaders of Canada.
Together, we can make the 2017 Canadian Ringette Championships the best ever national ringette competition ever held.
Thank you,
Ryan Heck & Lynn Suchan | Co-Chairs 2017 Canadian Ringette Championships
