PTO News! Parents,

We need your help with food donations for our annual Chili Cook-Off that will occur on Friday, October 26th. This is a fun day for teachers on both campuses when they form teams and compete for the best tasting, hottest, or crowd favorite chili. What makes this day special is having desserts and other food items donated by parents. If you would like to help PTO by donating some food items or by volunteering your time to help work the event, please go to our FB page Oak Ridge War Eagles PTO and go to signupgenius.com. We appreciate your support!

Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 26th to visit Chipotle on Market Street as they are hosting a Fundraiser Night for ORHS PTO. Every purchase from 4-8pm, PTO will receive 50% of the profits as long as you mention ORHS PTO, bring in the flyer (located on page 18 of this newsletter) or display it on your smart phone. These Fundraising Nights are very important to PTO as they are our way to help fund projects like overhead projectors in the classrooms, items requested from teachers and administrators and scholarship opportunities for students.

Another way to support PTO is to pay $10 on our membership form. Don’t worry, we will not hound you or force you to volunteer but every $10 can go a long way. You can find our PTO form in this newsletter. Please make sure to visit our FB page and website orhspto.digitalpto.com for information.

We appreciate your support for PTO and Oak Ridge High School. I hope you all have a great weekend and show your War Eagle Pride!! Leslie Munsell ORHS PTO President

Operation Graduation News!

Parents,

Operation Graduation is looking for volunteers to work the Concessions at Woodforest next Saturday, October 28th for the College Park home game(Oak Ridge is not playing) We will receive a % of the profits, but we need your help to fill cashier positions. We can only have parents working as cashiers however, students can work all other positions of handing out food and prepping food. All seniors who volunteer at Op Grad events will receive additional raffle tickets that can be used for prize packages at Main Event during the OP Grad night on May 30th.

Another volunteer opportunity is with Run Thru the Woods which is on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 23rd. We are looking for around 40 volunteers to hand out water and cheer on the runners. If you or your student would like to volunteer for either of these events, please send us an email at [email protected] we will get back with you to confirm your spot.

We are planning on having a spirit night at Bon Froyo on Rayford Road next month. Once the date is confirmed then we will advertise it. A % of the profits will go back to OP Grad so plan on enjoying some tasty frozen yogurt and help our seniors achieve a wonderful graduation night celebrating with their friends in a safe environment.

We would love to have more parents involved in the planning and implementing of fundraising activities for Operation Graduation. Please seriously think about helping out! We need senior parents as well as junior parents. It is really wonderful to see your child having a great time on one the most exciting times in their lives!!

New SAT Electronic Device Collection Policy!

Beginning with the October 2017 SAT® School Day and weekend SAT administrations, the College Board is requiring supervisors to collect all cell phones and wearable technology from test takers before administering the test.

This reflects the College Board’s ongoing efforts to enhance the security of the SAT, ensure the integrity of scores delivered to colleges and universities, and protect the honest students who make up the vast majority of test takers.

Students are asked not to wear smart watches and to please leave cell phones at home or in their cars if they do not want them taken up. Each classroom has a phone if they need to make a call for pick up after the test is over and students are dismissed. Test administrators will not be held responsible for any electronic devices that are damaged, lost or stolen. Students should be aware that if they bring any type of electronic device to testing it will be taken up before the testing starts.
