Staff Kay Knox and Alex Sosa, and speakers Dr. Ben Danielson, Medical Director of Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, and Patty Hayes, Director of Public Health–Seattle & King County, led our community event exploring ways to increase health equity and breastfeeding support for African American moms.

Our outreach team received an award from Public Health–Seattle & KingCounty for enrolling 3,657 King County residents into Apple Health insurance coverage during open enrollment.

Our annual spring fundraiser, Experience WithinReach, got a makeover! Through a hands-on, interactive experience, guests were able to learn more about what we do and the barriers that Washington families face.

WORKING AT THE INTERSECTION OF URGENT NEED AND LASTING IMPACT

At WithinReach, we envision healthy, vibrant communities in Washington where all families have the opportunity to thrive. However, this is not where we stand today. We know from 28 years of experience that navigating our complex health and social service systems continues to overwhelm many of the families we talk to each day.

As our Board, Staff, and many of you worked together this past year to set our new strategic direction, we were reminded that WithinReach’s longstanding commitment to work at the intersection of urgent need and lasting impact is more relevant than ever. Our new strategic priorities focus on helping all families find the support they need today to be healthy and safe, and building simpler, more equitable pathways for families to navigate in the future.

Thanks to you–our supporters, partners and friends– we are proud to say that together, we helped more than 280,000 families last year!

Improve Overall Health and Health Equity Make it easier for all families to access and benefit from the health resources and community supports they need to thrive.

Build Family-Informed Solutions Proactively learn about the needs of families and communities to create cross-sector, coordinated systems and policies that address the root causes of poor health.

Foster Innovation and Sustainability Generate revenue sources to create organizational sustainability, incubate new and expanded areas of impact, and support a strong advocacy platform.

Strengthen Brand Increase understanding and awareness of WithinReach’s unique knowledge and ability to improve health outcomes for families in Washington.

BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIESWhen City of Snohomish local Rebecca found out she was pregnant for the first time, she was working hard on her Associate of Science degree. Her goal was to transfer to the University of Washington to pursue dental school. Between having her daughter, Ava, and juggling her full schedule, Rebecca realized that she could use some extra support but wasn’t sure how to get it. After Ava’s father was no longer able to provide medical insurance, Rebecca realized she needed to move quickly.

As one of the organizations involved in supporting Rebecca and her family, our staff enrolled Ava into Washington Apple Health for Kids. This insurance retroactively covered the gap in Ava’s healthcare coverage and made sure that her well-child visits were paid for. Rebecca was grateful that WithinReach’s staff was kind, professional, knowledgeable and patient in walking her through the enrollment process. With our help, Rebecca found the tools to keep her family covered and can stay on track with her goals of “helping other community members gain access to education….[and] move out of poverty.”

Nearly a year later, Ava and Rebecca are healthy and thriving. Rebecca and Ava are one of more than 31,000 families we provided in-depth support to this past year–helping them navigate complex health and social services, and achieve their health and family goals.
