Simplifying Recruiting When you’re trying to pass the interview and recruiting exam, check the boxes for the Four P’s!
Prepare – for Recruiting events beginning in the Fall semester
o Sign Up with Career Services
o Attend all available recruiting events
o Construct an accurate and up to date Resume
o Participate in extracurricular activities associated with school or your church
Plan – to present yourself to employers in face-to-face interviews
o Study your potential employer, including basic details about the firm or company
o Based on your studies, prepare several pertinent questions for the interviewer
o Do a trial run of your trip to the interview location days before the interview, even if you’re already familiar with the area
o Prepare extra copies of your resume to bring to the interview
o Get plenty of rest the night before your interview
Perform – at your interview for the best chance of success
o Dress to impress – suits are generally preferred and show your professionalism
o Bring a pen and paper and ask the interviewer if you can take notes (and do so)
o Leave your cell phone in the car or at home, don’t tempt yourself to use it
o If you wear a watch, avoid checking the time during the interview
o Be honest, positive, and confident in your conversation with the interviewer
Pursue – a position you want after you’ve had your interview
o Send personalized thank you notes addressed to your interviewer
o Continue to interact with interviewers at future activities and events
