The International Committee for Exhibition Exchange, ICOM ICEE
The International Committee for Exhibition Exchange, ICOM ICEE, was established in 1980 during the 12th ICOM General Conference in Mexico City, Mexico.
Acknowledging the growing importance of traveling exhibitions in the museum sector, ICOM granted ICEE official status as an International Committee in 1983 during the 13th ICOM General Conference in London, United Kingdom.
Shortly after, the first ICEE Annual Conference was held in 1984 in Washington DC, USA, hosted by the Smithsonian Institution.
Overall satisfaction* with ICEE Annual Conference:88% in 2018 │ 91% in 2016 88% in 2015 │89% in 2014
The most represented regions among ICEE members are Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific. The less represented regions are Africa, Latin America & Caribbean, and Arab States.
Current membership figures:606 Individual and 109 Institutional Members representing a 43% increase in individual membership from 2017 to 2018.
Since 1984, ICEE annual conferences have been held in over 26 countries.
*The 2017 ICEE conference was cancelled due to the devastation caused by hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

The Strategic Goals
The following five strategic goals
support ICEE's ability to bring
together museum and exhibition
exchange professionals throughout
the world to discuss relevant topics
related to exhibition development,
circulation and exchange.
Success in achieving each goal in

The Strategic Goals
• Reinforce the committee’s relationship with representatives of the international museum
community as a way to reach out to prospective individual and institutional members.
• Maximize networking opportunities for ICEE members throughout the year as a way to develop
new collaborations and strength current partnerships.
• Encourage and assist ICEE Board Members to actively introduce the work of the committee, and
to develop and manage partnerships between the ICEE and their ICOM national committees,
national museum associations, and other leading institutions in their home countries.
• Maintain an open dialogue with the ICEE membership, to better understand the needs of the
members and how the ICEE can play a role in meeting those needs.

• Continue to partner with ICOM national and international committees, regional alliances and
museums associations worldwide in the planning and implementation of ICEE Annual
Conferences.
• Maintain the good quality and variety of speakers during keynote presentations, general
sessions and panels.
• Maintain performance metrics for the ICEE annual conference to better determine relevancy
and impact.

• Overall satisfaction with the ICEE conference maintains a minimum goal of 80% satisfaction. (Measured by
the annual post conference satisfaction survey).
• Percentage of participants that are highly likely to recommend the ICEE conference to others. (Measured
by the annual post conference satisfaction survey).

• Identify opportunities to strength current partnerships and to develop new collaborations within
ICOM including national, international committees, regional alliances, and affiliated organizations.

• Establish a webinar program that showcases relevant examples of best practices and innovation
in the exhibition field as a way to encourage discussion and innovative thinking accessible to
museums of all sizes and disciplines around the world.
• Develop volunteer opportunities and internship programs in partnership with museums studies
programs, universities, national museum associations, and ICOM national and international
committees to support the planning and implementation of the ICEE annual conference and
other ICEE programs.
• Promote online access to past ICEE conference sessions presentations available on the ICEE
Website.

development programs for ICEE members

• Maintain the frequent update of the ICEE Website, and maintain the strong presence in social
media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) as an efficient way to deliver timely information regarding ICEE
activities.
• Establish monthly ICEE Board Meetings via Skype, Google Hangouts, and other low-cost
communication tools.
