Committed to glorifying God, the Youth Ministry of Sardis Presbyterian Church exists to accept, engage, and nurture all youth and their families in order that they become disciples of Christ and serve the Lord. SardisYouth May 2015 @ On March 27-29, twenty-five middle school students and seven advisors traveled to Kure Beach for a weekend of exploring “The True You.” We examined Psalm 139 and learned we are all “fearfully and wonderfully made,” each unique in our way. We discussed how we tend to hide behind masks, not daring to show our true selves for fear of ridicule, teasing, or some other emotional trauma. We created masks to show this and even hid behind them in worship before confessing our sin (which hides us from God). After we confessed, we showed our true selves by removing the masks and being the person God created us to be. During the weekend, we also played games on the beach and enjoyed fellowship with one another. Though the weekend was short, we enjoyed our time studying and learning more about our true selves! High School Sunday Night Fellowship

During April, the High School Sunday Night Fellowship had some amazing discussions and activities. They did not meet on Easter Sunday (April 5) but had a powerful speaker about addiction and homelessness on Sunday, April 12. Ronald Clark came and spoke about his struggles with addiction that eventually led to him being homeless. He has since beaten his addictions and has a stable job and housing. His message resonated with the youth because he came from a good home with loving parents but made some poor choices, something we are all capable of doing.

Middle School Sunday Night Fellowship

The Middle School Youth did not meet on Easter Sunday (April 5), but had a wonderful night of launching balloons and rotten fruit after a devotion on the Parable of the Sower on April 12. On April 19, our Middle School friends from St. Steven UMC came by for a night of fellowship as our two church combined for dinner and games. We will have a couple more Sunday Night Fellowship opportunities in May before pausing for the summer. Come join us!

On April 19, the High School students took to giving the Youth Room a deep cleaning as part of the Give One Day at Sardis. On April 26, we came together to throw a baby shower for Sarah Herum, a High School Advisor who is due with her first child in June. We will have on Sunday Night Fellowship in May as a final time to gather before summer begins.
