ONGOING INITIATIVEDIFFERENT TOGETHER

Featuring Student ART FROM ACROSS ISRAEL• Visible, billboard sized images of award winning art throughout the busy Port of Jaffa, Israel

• Annual exhibit celebrating the diversity theme

• Approximately 250,000 annual visitors experience the exhibit

• Includes all facets of Israeli society

• Cooperates and partners with Israeli municipalities and government agencies

• Scalable program with existing infrastructure

Since 2003, The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee has partnered with Embracing our Differences. The success of this partnership emphatically demonstrated the need to intensify our efforts in spreading the word internationally. We decided to take the exhibit to Israel. The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee engaged with The Daniel Centers for Progressive Judaism in Israel and created a program named Shonim B’Yachad,

Hebrew for Different Together.

More than 20 schools and community centers throughout central Israel participated in this inaugural project. Students from every facet of Israeli society, including Muslims, Christians, and Jews submitted hundreds of artwork pieces. Winning images were enlarged to billboard size and presented at the Shonim B’Yachad/Different Together exhibit, which opened March 19, 2015 in Jaffa, Israel. To date, the exhibition has received a commendation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and visits from multiple members of the Israeli Knesset, along with Muslim, Christian, and Jewish clergy. An estimated 250,000 Israelis and visitors will experience the project. The acceptance of the program in Israel has been remarkable. We have been asked to extend the exhibit this year by the municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, and we are already planning for future exhibits, while exploring additional partnerships and sponsors that will help us perpetuate this vital endeavor.
