LETTER FROM THE EDITORS
BILLBOARD STAFF Editors-in-Chief: Jenna Kauffman Celia Whitcomb Advisers: Kimberly Maske-Mertz Robin Herring
Graphic Design Editor: Francesca Giustini Online Editor: Caitlyn Minelli
Rock Out with Fellow Students on Campus
Welcome back! This year, The Billboard has gone through some changes with the editorial staff. For the fi rst time in years, Billboard has two editors-in-chief, Jenna Kauffman and Celia Whitcomb. We’re looking forward to welcoming back Graphic Design editor Fran-cesca Giustini, as well as Caitlyn Minelli on board as our online editor. This should make things interesting in the Billboard staff room. The staff has been expanding for the past few years, and with this expansion comes future changes. We hope to have more students a part of this process. As a club, we plan to become more prominent on different social medias, such as Facebook, Twit-ter, and Instagram. We invite all students, new and returning, to check out Billboard on Wednesday nights at 9:15 p.m. in Lenfest 005. Even if you have never experienced Billboard, we encourage attendance. There are positions for writers, photographers, graphic design-ers, and much more. Write about what you’re interested in, or gain experience and write out of your comfort zone.We look forward to meeting the staff of the upcoming year!
Music has returned to campus in a big way: live concerts. Back in March, the Campus Activi-ties Board (CAB) welcomed the band Against The Current in Laird Hall, and in July Branson Hoog from the band Shatterproof performed an exclusive acoustic set down by the crossroads
leading to the farm. This coming year and in the future, CAB plans to continue organizing con-certs for students to attend. So come out and have a good time while bands and performers are
on campus! Announcements will be made on the CAB Facebook page and posters will be put up around
campus announcing events. Photos by Jenna Kauffman

In passing through Wilson College campus during the month of July, you probably saw the usual Frisbee golfers and wedding guests perusing the lawn, prospies and admins zipping from one air-condi-tioned building to the next. Less explicably, you may have spotted individuals wandering around with motley frames, large rolls of plastic fi lm, and bags of cut grass. Or perhaps someone swinging from a branch, crawling across the
auditorium fl oor or spinning alone on a classroom table. Introducing the fi rst class of Wilson’s two-year MFA in Cho-reography and Visual Arts! After several years of envi-sioning what such an inter-disciplinary MFA might look like and how Wilson College could host such a program in a mutually enhancing relation-ship, it fi nally launched its inaugural residential inten-sive this summer. The stellar faculty brought together mani-
fested a desire to include so-matic awareness, new media, mindfulness, and a spacious trans-disciplinary approach to art making, well grounded in today’s complex art scenes. Six artist students came on board, leaping into the un-known territory that a fi rst-year run inevitably is, despite all the experience and planning that goes into it. Distinctions between visual and perform-ing artists quickly blurred: classes were taken together and a fertile cross-pollination of concepts and practices soon opened new doors for each of us. A program does not really
exist until students and fac-ulty come together and begin making their magic, which this month truly was. I was particularly touched by each person’s willingness to con-sider novelty in human in-teractions as much as in art-making. Days unfolded with feedback and readjustments, everyone working together to clarify the direction of the pro-gram as well as orient our own artwork. With the necessary deconstruction of everyone’s assumptions, it was a cre-ative month in every way pos-sible: generous and generative. I’m thrilled.
