"Lumber and building material dealers play an important role in the building supply chain, and the health of theAmerican economy depends in part on a strong residential housing market," said NLBMDA Chair J.D. Saunders, VicePresident of Economy Lumber in Campbell, California. Localized Minimum Wage Bill Introduced in Wisconsin(From Wisconsin Manufacturers Council)Less than 24 hours after taking the oath of office for the 201517 legislative session, Democrat Rep. Cory Masonintroduced a jobkilling bill to force a minimum wage hike on all employers in Wisconsin. In addition to simply raisingthe minimum wage to $10.10 per hour, which according to the Employment Policies Institute could kill as many as28,000 jobs in Wisconsin, Mason's bill also indexes the minimum wage to increase annually going forward. The bill also contains a provision to undue an important protection in Wisconsin that currently stops municipalitiesfrom enacting their own minimum wages. The new bill will allow municipalities to enact their own minimum wage laws, potentially causing businesses toincrease prices to cover the increased labor costs and/or move their business. Northwestern Lumber Association, in conjunction with its partners at the Wisconsin Manufacturers Council, willcontinue to monitor this issue.
