    University of North Texas Intensive English Language Institute

    Summer 2014 Week 5: July 7 - 13

    Restaurant Night: Friday, July 11, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Do you want to know where you can find good food in Denton? Try a new restaurant with one of your IELI teachers and practice speaking English! Each teacher will take a group to a different restaurant and give you advice on which dishes are best. Sign up in Graces office (SYMR 202) by Thursday, July 10. Students are responsible for paying for their own meal and providing a tip for the waiter/waitress.

    Super H-Mart Shopping Trip: Saturday, July 12, 7:00PM-11:00PM. Come shop with us for delicious Asian food! Sign up in Graces office at SYMR 202. On Saturday, July 12, we will meet at the corner of Ave. B & Mulberry street (outside GAB and Marquis Hall) at 7:00PM.

    Cowboys Stadium Tour and Rangers Game: Sunday, July 13, 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Explore Cowboys Stadium with IELI and learn about the architecture, engineering, art, and business decisions behind the world-famous stadium. Well visit the football field, the Dallas Cowboys locker room, and more on a guided tour! Afterward, well go to Rangers Ballpark and cheer for the Texas Rangers as they play the Los Angeles Angels! Tickets are $5 for IELI students and $30 for family and friends. A limited number of tickets are available, so hurry to Alissas office (SYMR 205) to sign up and pay between July 7-11, 9:00am-4:00pm.

    Are you going to be leaving the country right after your finals on Friday, July 25? Will you need a copy of your grades before Fall I? If so, you can fill out a form in the IELI main office (SYMR 204), that gives your friends or family member permission to pick up your grades for you. If you dont fill out a form giving permission for someone else to pick up your grades, you will have to wait until you are back in Denton to pick up your grade report.

    As always, you will need to show your photo ID to request or pick up other peoples grades during Week 8. Final grade reports will be availa-ble Thursday, July 31st at 9 am.

    The institutional TOEFL that IELI administers is for students who are about to graduate from IELI. They have the level of English to continue at the university. If you are not in Level 6 or Level 5, you still need more time to improve your English proficiency. You should concentrate on working on your current IELI courses and not spend time preparing for or taking English proficiency exams.

    All Payments must be made by Friday, July 11th. If you tuition is not fully paid, you will not be allowed to attend classes. Please speak to Alissa in her office, SYMR 205, if you have any questions.

    This will be a great opportunity to meet American volunteers and

    practice your English. There will be a free lunch! First come first served!

    12:10pm-1:00pm in SYMR 203.

    The IELI Lab offers materials to help you

    improve your reading skills!

    Six-Way Paragraphs contain readings

    that have questions afterwards to an-

    swer about the reading. This is GREAT

    practice for comprehension exams!

    Each week, Grace, Tariq & Raven make a Weekly Update video of important events and

    announcements. If you would like to star in one of the videos, please stop by SYMR 202 and talk to

    Grace or Raven. Volunteers will be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the term!

    Join the American Communication & Culture summer program on a tour of Downtown Denton, and mix & mingle at Beth Maries Ice Cream Shop!

    Meet downstairs in the Legends Hall lobby. We will have a sign that says UNT-International Summer Institute.

    Dont be late! Also dont forget to bring money for ice cream. Sign ups are available in Graces office at SYMR 202.

    Fall I term dates are August 25 to October 17. ALL current students (including Level 6 students who plan to graduate) must complete the online pre-registration for Fall I. Students can pre-register online at my.unt.edu during Week 6: Monday, July 14th 8:00 am to Friday, July 18th by 5:00 pm.

    If you need help registering online, there is a PowerPoint presentation located on the IELI lab website: https://ieli.unt.edu/ieli-lab. You can also go to the IELI Lab in MARQ 314 for help. If your plans change after you register, you must go to the IELI Main Office, SYMR 204 to update your pre-registration form.
