1911 Established a Fiesta Association which led to present-day Fiesta

1917 Secured 8,000 acres of land that became Kelly AFB, now Port San Antonio

1942 Brought Trinity University to San Antonio from Waxahachie, Texas

1944 Developed the Freeman Coliseum, now home to the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the AT&T Center

1946 Formed the South Texas Medical Foundation, leading the way to establishing the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio

1948 Developed a master highway plan for metropolitan San Antonio and Bexar County

1968 Brought HemisFair to San Antonio, and the development of the River Walk

1974 Created the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation

1975 Established the Leadership San Antonio program to develop new leaders for volunteer and public service roles

1984 Secured approval and funding for Highway 151, to provide access to the growing north and west sectors of San Antonio

1988 Obtained necessary funding for Brooke Army Medical Center, paving the way for the San Antonio Military Health System, the medical training center for all branches of the US military

1988 Created San Antonio Sports, to develop and attract national amateur and professional sporting events to San Antonio

2002 Served as a partner in creating the San Antonio Mobility Coalition

2003 As key members of “Team Toyota,” Chamber leaders helped negotiate the agreement that will bring a Toyota Manufacturing North America facility to San Antonio

2005 Worked with the PGA Tour and helped secure city council approval for the TPC Resort San Antonio.

2005 Launched BioMed SA, to both tell the story of San Antonio’s existing biomedical assets and capabilities, as well as to help bring new biomedical firms, distinguished faculty, medical meetings and research dollars to the area

2009 Developed the structure for creating a San Antonio Cyber Action Plan (SACAP) through the Information Technology Committee to outline ways to expand cyber operations in San Antonio, and help promote collaboration among academic, business and government entities involved in cyber security and information assurance

2012 Began the Chamber’s annual Stars and Stripes over San Antonio, the largest and longest fireworks show in city history

Members of the San Antonio Chamber have been transforming San Antonio. We are

an active, integral voice in the business community and in the promotion of economic

development, workforce development, advocacy and education. Over the years, we

have been a part of many of San Antonio’s major initiatives, including:

The San Antonio Chamber is working to build and sustain a vibrant business community by enabling its

There are various committees of the San Antonio Chamber you can join in order to actively engage

with other like-minded business men and women around our key areas of focus, including Economic

Development, Membership & Marketing, Public Affairs and Education & Workforce Development. Joining

a committee is an excellent way to contribute to the voice of business in our city, as well as to network and

make new contacts.

economic Development councilChair Joe Bray | Regional Commercial Banking Executive, BBVA Compass Bank | Supports San Antonio’s

targeted industries consisting of aerospace, health care & bioscience, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism,

information technology & cybersecurity, military, and real estate & construction. The Council also organizes

the annual Celebrate America’s Military (CAM) and SA to DC trip.

Aerospace committee

Chair Juleen Sanftner | Marketing Supervisor, Gore Design Completions, Ltd. | Provides a forum for

educating the community on issues of importance to the aerospace industry. This committee influences

public policy at the local, state and federal level to encourage continued industry growth and job creation.

celebrate America’s Military (cAM) committee

Mike Rowland | Market Manager, Broadway Bank

Coordinates the annual salute to the military, which occurs in November and involves more than a dozen

events. CAM is recognized as the nation’s largest community-wide celebration of its kind, involving 200,000

people over an 11-day period.

Healthcare and bioscience committeeChair Geoff Crabtree | Senior Vice President, Methodist Healthcare System | Educates the community on

the importance and impact of the local healthcare & bioscience industry and serves as the key resource to

Chamber members on healthcare issues. This committee advocates for critical issues affecting these industries

and supports plans and programs designed to grow and sustain them.

information Technology (iT) committee

Chair Manish Kapoor | Senior Vice President, Information Systems, NuStar Energy | Fosters growth and

development of the local IT industry, supports and advocates for legislative issues affecting the industry.

Identifies and creates IT workforce and recruitment initiatives to meet future industry needs through

collaboration with academic institutions, current businesses and the military. Engages with local military

missions and commercial businesses to grow the cybersecurity industry and assets in San Antonio.

Military Affairs committeeChair Carroll Schubert | President and CEO, Professional Contract Services, Inc. | Promotes San Antonio

by engaging the greater San Antonio community, and especially its business community, to demonstrably

celebrate, support, maintain and grow the military presence in San Antonio. Through long-standing programs,

such as the Commander’s Liaison program, the Senior Enlisted Advisor Council and the Women to Women

Leader to Leader Council, the committee interacts with all levels of the military to ensure support for their

mission critical activities, families and transition efforts.

brand and market the Chamber to members, promotes the benefits of Chamber membership and leads the

annual Membership Campaign.

assistance to members at commemorative events such as grand openings, ribbon cuttings and ground breakings.

in partnerships that impact public education, expand access to higher education and develop a 21st century

education and Workforce committeeChair Nancy Hard |CEO, Family Service Association | Engages the education and business communities to

improve educational attainment of our local students in all levels of school through initiatives, programs and

policy changes. Develops strategies to secure a workforce pipeline through our education system, training

programs for adults and transitioning military for key industries.

legislative committeeChair Rudy Garza | Vice President, External Relations, CPS Energy | Creates and implements the

Chamber’s state and federal legislative agendas developed by Chamber committees who identify issues that

impact San Antonio’s business climate. The committee researches, discusses and implements the Chamber’s

legislative priorities during the Texas State Legislative Session, special sessions and during the interim.

Transportation committeeChair K. Stephen Bonnette | Senior Vice President, Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc. | Advocates for new

and innovative methods of transportation funding that satisfy the infrastructure needs of San Antonio and the

region. This includes leading efforts to advocate for the Lone Star Rail District, the Alamo Regional Mobility

Authority Board and the San Antonio Mobility Coalition.

Water committeeChair Stephen D. Seidel | Past Chamber Chairman, 2006 | Works to identify and support long-term

political solutions to ensure an adequate, affordable quality supply of water on a regional basis.

the series features each of the state’s U.S. Representatives in Congress. These luncheons are a platform for you

to present business priorities to our highest elected officials in Washington.
