On Behalf of King Council Congratulations

Holland Marsh Growers Communityon your 63rd Annual

Muck Vegetable Growers Conference

Sincerely,

Mayor Steve Pellegriniwww.king.ca

King is endowed with 60% of the Marsh situated within the Township, We cherish and appreciate the unique and sustainable form of agriculture that is the Marsh and the rich and varied contributions to our economy, lifestyle and heritage. In partner-ship with the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG), the Township maintains and manages the Holland Marsh drainage system to plan any future development for the Holland Marsh and tackle any possible environmental issues. This is the largest drainage construction project in Ontario with an estimated cost of $26.4 million. The project is approximately 80% completed and on target for completion by end of 2014.

In 2008, King Township partnered with BWG and the Holland Marsh Growers Association to coordinate what has become the annual Holland Marsh Soupfest Event. This event celebrates and promotes the bounty of the Marsh to residents and visitors alike. In 2013, the event welcomed over 1200 spectators into the Holland Marsh to sip and savor delicious soups from over 35 professional chefs and gourmet experts. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in Ansnorveldt Park. We would like to encourage our residents, farmers, businesses and community groups to get involved in this fall harvest celebration. For more information please visit: www.soupfest.ca.

We extend our best wishes for the continuing success of this conference that brings the community together to collaborate, network and share innovative ways to preserve and enhance Holland Marsh as Canada’s most prosperous and sustainable Soup and Salad Bowl!
