I welcome you to the 2014 Cycling Australia Masters National Road Championships of which the Victorian Coalition Government is a proud supporter.

Over 400 riders from around Australia will converge on Ballarat to compete in a range of cycling disciplines including time trial, criterium and road race events.

Events like the Masters Road Championships provide an excellent opportunity to showcase Victoria’s outstanding regional centres and are a great way to encourage people to stay active into their senior years.

Victoria is very proud of its reputation of conducting a wide variety of quality sporting events that attract large numbers of visitors to our State, provide an important boost for local economies and increase sports participation at a local level.

That’s why the Victorian Government has provided $5,000 to Cycling Victoria through the Significant Sporting Events Program to help stage this fantastic event.

Congratulations to everyone involved in supporting and staging the 2014 Masters National Road Championships including Cycling Victoria, Cycling Australia, Victoria Police and Ballarat City Council who have been a long-time supporter of cycling events in this State and will also host the upcoming Tour of the Goldfields later this month.

I welcome all visitors to this year’s Championships and I invite you to experience the many good things the Ballarat region has to offer during your stay.

DAMIAN DRUM MLC Minister for Sport and Recreation

On behalf of Cycling Australia, I extend a very warm welcome to athletes, officials and cycling supporters from around Australia to the 2014 Cycling Australia Masters Road National Championships at Ballarat.

It is pleasing to see such a quality field of entries and we look forward to four days of exciting racing.

Our genuine appreciation is extended to the City of Ballarat and Ballarat Regional Tourism for their continued support of cycling and events within their region. Also to the Victorian Government and Tourism Victoria.

I would like to acknowledge the Australian Sports Commission, Cycling Australia’s principal partner and sponsor for their ongoing contribution to the success of our sport here and abroad.

Our thanks also to the Cycling Australia and Cycling Victoria staff, officials, supporters and volunteer workforce from the cycling fraternity. We appreciate the many hours of hard work that make this Championship the success that it is.

Finally to the athletes, I wish you a safe and enjoyable competition and hope your personal goals are realised and that you thoroughly enjoy competing.

A message from the City of Ballarat

On behalf of the City of Ballarat, it’s my great pleasure to welcome you to our wonderful city for the 2014 Cycling Australian Masters Road Championships.

The City of Ballarat is pleased to have the event back at Australia’s home of cycling with the event last being held here in 2011.

We pride ourselves on being able to host such high quality cycling events in Ballarat which include the Cycling Australia National Road Championships, Women’s National Road Series and the Jayco Herald Sun Tour.

This year’s event also gives competitors the chance to ride the picturesque National Championship course which I am sure all participants will enjoy.

Our city is dedicated to providing a warm welcome to visitors. With a wide range of accommodation and recreational activities available in Ballarat, I invite you to make the most of your visit and stay and enjoy all that our city and the surrounding region have to offer.

I wish all competitors the best of luck and hope all spectators have a wonderful experience at the event and in our beautiful city.

Cr John Philips Mayor of Ballarat
