MESSAGE FROM THE MADRID MAJOR

Madrid accept around 4.000 athletes for six days. This athletes are from the “master” category in which the participants are over 35 years and several of them are over 90, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to them along with their family and friends considering that most of the athletes are accompanied by them. I think that this sporting event, unite perfectly the concept that we have in our town hall of sport recreation and sport as a source of health.

I wish that during the stay of these people in Madrid, thousands of them arrived from many different European countries, can enjoy the great tourism offer, our culture, gastronomy and leisure we have, in addition to checking the open and welcoming character of the locals.

Our city is a benchmark of quality for world athletics. A little more than a month ago, we cele-brated the international meeting of athletics indoor, which for the first time has been one of the race of the prestigious IAAF World Indoor Tour, which has allowed admiring the best athletes in the world, precisely in this Gallur indoor track, which was conditioned and put into operation in this legislature.

This month, it has been started the works of what is going to be the future Madrid’s stadium, which will be a milestone of world athletics, as it was when it was called Vallehermoso, result of our good will to recover an abandoned project that the sport of Madrid needed urgently.

Great context for this European championship that we receive with enthusiasm and pride.

RAÚL CHAPADO

As president of the Local Organising Committee, I am very happy to welcome everyone to the European Indoor Master Athletics here in Madrid from March 19th to March 24th. For our country is an honour and a great organising challenge to held this championship for the third time. We did host it 2003 and 2013 editions in San Sebastian.

Madrid will embrace you. The capital city of Spain, is a mix of modernity and historical heritage which makes it an unique place to celebrate this event. Here you will enjoy Spanish hospitality, you will admire places such as Puerta del Sol or Cibeles Palace, you will walk through the cos-mopolitan Gran Vía, you will discover the museums of Art Promenade and you will also have the chance of doing some sport in Retiro Park. There are a lot of ingredients that will make that your stay in Madrid another reason to enjoy the championship.

As a sports events host-city, Madrid has hosted different important athletics events as the European Indoor Championship in 2005. The city has always offered a big diversity of lodging, great worldwide transport connections and a great cultural and tourist offer.

Among the diverse sports facilities that Madrid offers, the Gallur Sport Centre where the com-petition is taking place is an unique place to live an “amazing athletetics Master experience”In this European Indoor Master Athletics 2018 a registration record has been achieved, which means that the master athletics are growing more and more. The appeal of the competition and the city itself is proved by the fact that 60% of the athletes come from outside Spain.

Therefore we are fully convinced that Madrid will host the most success edition of this cham-pionship.

An objetive and a desire we keep in mind. Finally, I want to welcome again to whoever wants to share this unforgettable sport experience, inviting them to enjoy these great European master athletics event.

I would like to wish all participants to have a great performance and to really enjoy the cham-pionship their week in Madrid.

Local Committe President

3.23.- TIME SECTIONIn 1500m and 3000m event, age groups with a huge number of registered athletes, will be di-vided in heats, taking into account each athlete´s best mark in each registration, with the best performance in the last heat. Athletes without mark in their registration will be automatically located in slower heats. Final results will be done by combining every heat in each group age.

3.24.- TIMEKEEPINGIn long distance events a track clock will be located near the finish line for the athletes, to see their times. If an athlete is managed to lap by the first runners, it is advisable for him/her to stay in the same lane, to avoid obstructions. If required by the Championship Manager or Technical Delegates, two or more age groups could compete at the same time, but the awarding and the results publication will be inde-pendents.

3.25.- COMPETITION

3.25.1.- High Jumps/Vertical JumpsEach high jump event will be considered as finals (there won´t be previous rounds). If neces-sary, different age groups can be combined in the same competition. Both feet must be on the air when jumping, at the same time. It is allowed to touch the falling area before crossing the bar, but not to using it for taking advance in any sense, and the competition judge will judge it accordingly.

When a competition is combined with different age groups, the winner of each category can choose special highs without making a linear progression, but the rest of participants won´t jump this high, and must follow the normal progression.

No habrá rondas previas.
